hello guitar fans, who want to know the work of tb Mazin Silva, Brazilian guitarist, feel free to listen to Brazilian guitar,,,, Mazin SILVA (search youtube)
Nice., and inspiring. I wish I could here the bass line better, which I think just jams along playing 8 beat a measure. I need the music to be sure. But the bass gives the pulse...and gets the guitarist up. You know I hear inside this another very basic straight ahead older jazz tune...something Wes would have done in 4/4....hmmm...
Thanks man! Well, I can't deny Methenys influences, but lately I've been trying to get a bit away from that. Like Wayne Krantz said; sometimes you have to give up what you love to create something new ;-)
Thanks! I guess you're right about the energyloss, I kinda get the same feeling listening back to it now. Hopefully I have improved since then.. Thanks for your comment :)
i really like this vid just because you are so true to your playing, i can feel the emotion in your playing and i can tell your having fun. thanks for posting.!
The backingtrack is from a series that is called "Jazz play along". This is volume 6 called "Jazz Classics with easy changes". Published by Hal Leonard. Great backingtracks!
Thanks a lot! Well I guess if you want to have my solo's notes you'll have to start transcribing! This is just me improvising over this tune, so I'm really humbled by your request.. I'm not that harmonically advanced though, I guess that I'm in this take are using d-dorian and d-melodic minor with a few passing notes here and there.. And of course the same goes for the Ebm-part(for the most part Eb-dorian I think). Thanks again man!
Really nice playing. Fluid and melodic. Picking technique is wonderful. How do relax and pick when having to play fast? I find myself sometimes tensing up just before I go into long phrase at a quick tempo. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your kind words! Well, getting a fluent picking technique is something that does'nt come easy for me, so that is something I constantly am trying to improve. In this take I guess I use all kinds of phrasing. For pure picking exercises I would recommend things like the scale exercises in Frank Gambale's video Chop Builder. That's a real endurance-test, and yes after a while I also seem to tense up! But I'm still working on my picking! Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
I'm a teenager studying jazz guitar at the moment and when you play your sixteenths it seems like your using alot of legato, is this so? I've been practicing a legato/picking technique with 16ths and i can certianly match the speed but its hard to put it in to context..have you got any tips for this?
I guess I do use a lot of legato combined with picking in this take. I try to practice both, but often I seem to end up with a combination. Tips for putting things into context, well that's hard.. One thing to remember is to stay true to what you love and what you think sounds cool, and try to icorporate that into your playing. It's easy to get too intellectual when it comes to jazz.. Try to pick up things you think sounds cool, and try to mix it with your own lines!
that is an occupational hazard for all of us guitar players. i cannot tell you how many times i feel that "i suck" and get depressed about falling into the same ruts..it is a humbling instrument we choose to play. humbling, but beautiful and those few moments of clarity make it all worthwhile..
Just reading your comment here, I feel very humble. Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm constantly trying to improve my playing, and maybe therefor I sometimes get so critical that I only see the negtive sides of it. So, comments like yours are inspiring-thanks again!
Thank you very much! The backingtrack is from a series that is called "Jazz play along". This is volume 6 called "Jazz Classics with easy changes". Published by Hal Leonard. Great backingtracks!
Thanks! Suggestions for soloing and phrasing..hmm..Trying to imitate the great improvisers in jazz, and try to figure out how they phrase, is a great way to learn. Try to transcribe solos and see how they build and develop ideas. The ultimate goal of course, is to create your own voice and your own vocabulary.. It's a lifelong quest!
i enjoyed listening to your solo, great ideas and smooth soulful phrasing. its spot on, man. i made a comments on your other video, the metheny lick video. now i can see that your guitar is in fact the PM 35 model. i was thinking of buying it myself, how do you like it? how does it play? hows the sound, amplified and acoustically? thanks alot.
Hello! Thanks for watching my videos! The guitar is in fact a PM 20, bought it for about 10 years ago. I like the guitar a lot, great neck, great sound. On this tune I run it through a Vox Tonelab into a marshall amplifier. Glad you enjoyed my playing! :)

thanks so much for sharing your gift.. i was wondering how to approach this song for a jazz improv class and you have provided a beautiful roadmap.
you play with such grace and nuance that is is so easy to get lost in the mood you create and not think about the monster chops you have.
just a beautiful take. every time i look at it i am more impressed.
