  • ows will riot and i will be staying home were i work

  • The main problem with unemployment is that no one wants to work. As long as a person continues receiving unemployment, they will avoid minimum wage jobs. There are many jobs available, construction, working at McDonald's, janitorial, washing dishes. Mexicans are willing to take low end, low paying jobs as most white colar professionals will not settle for less.

  • @patsaxon actually I believe there are many who want to work and would take a job if they could find one. But there are a lot that want to just skate until the ui runs out and some that wont work for less than they think they are worth. but you are right there are those that think because i use to make 30 and hour i cant work for 15 an hour....too bad society has come to that. jobs are not coming back soon so take what you can get.

  • Some people will be just a few months away from being homeless, if that bill doesn't pass tomorrow. I heard today we're giving 7 BILLION to Pakistan, to help build up THEIR country. This madness has got to stop, and our gov needs to worry about us for a change.

  • @banders1979 Absolutely needs to stop....if we can give billions to "buy" some friends then we can spend the same money to help our citizens. It's all borrowed anyway so use it for the US not some country on the other side of the planet.

  • exmark316, i totally agree let's stop giving so much to other countries, stop fighting wars on drugs that don't even work anyways bring all non essential troops home from japan, germany, korea, iraq, afganistan and the hundreds of other countries we are sticking our noses in,discharge all these solders and give then G.I loans to start small businesses and help put americans back to work.

  • @remotehog1 I agree 100%. I am however an advocate of small government. I feel that if all the money that was paid in my name for each hour I worked was in my bank account, I would not need a UI check at this point in time. I also feel that if the 50% of my money that is taxed from me (directly and indirectly due to inflation etc) was in my pocket I would be a lot better off and so would everyone else. UI would not even be necessary if they had all these other problems fixed.

  • @exmark316 I agree...we need about 75% less government. They do way more than they should or are constitutionally allowed to do.

  • @wakeupbreathing Indeed. The problem now is that we are in a real mess and UI extensions should be one of, or possibly the last thing that is cut. I do not think it is wise to cut programs that are helping the poor out in one of the worst recessions in U.S. history. I truly feel that this will be a Pandora's box if they dont keep the UI going. Many hard working families will lose their homes etc and it will make things even worse for everyone.

  • @exmark316 I agree but how long do we extend UI? It is 99 weeks now..do we go to 150 weeks...300 weeks....400 weeks. If we need 8-12 million jobs and we are not creating jobs it could be 10 years before we even create 2 million jobs.

Now the states want bailouts too....the US is going to hit a debt wall. At what point do we have tough love and take the hit and stop spending?

It's bad now for some but could be bad for all real soon if we stay on this road.

  • @wakeupbreathing I personally think 99 weeks is long enough. The problem I am mostly concerned with is that most of us that are unemployed have not recieved anywhere close to 99 weeks. I also think that any of us that do have jobs and might have a bit extra should be trying to help our neighbors and community members out if they are in need.

  • @exmark316 people should help if they can. but that is a personal call. My wife is a realtor and not making anything either...but she can't collect UI because she is considered self-employed

  • Perhaps we could stop spending money overseas. We cut all foreign aid and all military spending outside of this country. I think that alone would provide a substantial amount of cash for the unemployed and also have some left over to pay down our national debt...

  • @exmark316 Those are definetly some places to start....but how would the military industrial complex make money without us using all that war equipment all over?

  • Also I think most employer's need to take down their EOE sign because that Equal Opportunity Employment does not apply anymore I'm sorry I'm venting a little bit today!!!!

  • @eshamo2006 Does seem to be a bit of a farce

  • Hi Steve

I been through a few recessions the worst one for me started in 1989 I lost everything, two businesses wife son home you name it all taken away and I became homeless, twenty years of my life down the pan. My heart goes out to those in your country that have and are about to go through something similar.

It takes a very very long time to get back too some kind of normality.

    Kind Regards

    Karl

    UK

  • @Professorshift yes it can be very hard to recover financially and feel normal again. I empathize with those that have lost their jobs.

  • All I know is if they don't come up with a solution soon it will get ugly. All I can suggest is next January when congress session start's again, go down to your local capital and ask your senator and delegate to pass a law to stop doing credit check or if a credit check is mandatory, then give the new employer 90 a chance to start paying on their debt and if they fail to due so then give them axe, not axe them before they even make it to the interview!!!!

  • @eshamo2006 unfortunately the solution is jobs, somewhere are 8-10 million needed immediately with another 5-8 million within a year. That is not in reality.

Even 100K jobs in a year is impossible. There is no industry new or old that can create even 100K jobs in a couple years.

Yes I agree things are going to get ugly

  • Good Point!!!! Too many people and not enough jobs. I also noticed a lot of jobs are requiring US Citizens to be bilingual, That's another issue because we as citizen should not have to cater to another group ethnic group who does not speak proper English. I truly feel as though it's a form of discrimination if a business does not want to hire you if you don't speak Spanish because it's not benefical to the masses who isn't bilingual!!!! (except the gov't such as the CIA and FBI)

  • One of the biggest hindrance of unemployment is the fact that most employers are doing credit check thus, preventing individuals from getting a job. Keep in mind the jobs that is doing those credit check aren't in the financial sector. I'm sure if they would atleast minimize credit check prior to employing people this would minimize the unemployment rate. Anyone with good sense knows that you have to have a job in order to pay bill and without a job, your finances begin to crumble.

  • Govt isn't interested in anything except maintaining and expanding it's own power. We have aristocrats making decisions for the people.

These pols don't represent the people. Senators make 174K a year.

Perhaps they should make the average of whatever constituency they represent then they would change their tune.

  • @ckj377 I think they should be paid expenses and only small monthly stipend like 1000. Under no circumstances can they come back as a lobbyist until at least 2 years after leaving office.

  • @ckj377 I say we the people should set the standards for what their salary should, be after all it's our tax dollar paying their lavish lifestyle and salaries.

  • no u should cut in your military and get the dollars from there ......its totaly wrong that they lose there benefits..... when u have so high military budget. ....

    S3520 unemployment bill

  • don't forget the big bail out for states was included in the bill also. why keep kicking the can down the road. i hope all the pissed off people know where the worthless politicians and bankers live. TIME FOR HANGINGs, let them pay their debt to US!!!

  • The point that we stop borrowing $ is when

-we quit occupying other countries for large corp interest. aka war

-we quit bailing out the so called too big to fail

-we quit giving tax breaks, etc to the top 1%

-we start producing something-we are AmeriCANS

  • @fedupwithfedbeingfos cannot disagree with any of those...except keep tax low for everyone but really cut spending also

  • my point is at least in my opinion is government needs to get their greed busy body hands out of our pockets, we need permits to do just about anything , got to pay the government a fee to live basically . i think the TX legislators have it right down there they are not full time politicians they meet once or twice a year to do their work.

  • @trainstation21 absolutely.....gov get out of the way...reduce taxes, spending, regulations, permits, rules, oversight, let the market start working and businesses will grow.....

and then I woke-up from that dream.

  • @wakeupbreathing "and then I woke-up from that dream." yeah i hear ya , you ever seen any of the old westerns where someones riding a horse in such a hurry they end up killing the horse thats kind of how i feel about the government , they've put so much debt & weight on the private sector , that its nearly impossible for the private sector to get moving (kind of like putting your foot on someones back while they try to push up.) btw. thats what the tea party is about less Goverment

  • @trainstation21 since I love old westerns I know the reference to killing the horse you are riding.....and I was at a tea party event today, talkshow host Roger Hedgecock was the speaker.

  • i think blocking the UE extension is simply going to make the economy worse, if you dont have the money to by gas to look for work your pretty much on foot, that doesn't work in my line of work , or i should say what i use to do , think of government as a jockey riding a horse called the American Economy , by pulling on the rains(sp?) & digging their heals in when the horse is tired isnt gonna make run faster

  • @trainstation21 I agree..it will just mean more people without any money to try to keep their head above water. We better get use to extensions because without job creation there is nothing to replace UI. Plus the states are broke so they will be to big to fail and will want bailouts. The MSM can keep saying the recovery is weak but looking better....it's not

  • I see your as aggravated as I am about what's happening all around us

Have you always lived in Cal. ? This oil disaster is going to cause a lot more havoc in the end

Government lives for the moment just like the rest of Americans do.. These politicians are well taken care of when they leave office, so to them it is all about them and not about us.. I would say Regan quoted that but it was me instead : )

  • @bubba007ss Yes native Californian....and yes very aggravated

  • I lost my UI last week without notice...i know of several others in the same situation...what are we to do with NO income,? It is a lie that there are jobs plenty of jobs....What few HR departments hiring are not interviewing people who are unemployed, they only are interviewing CURRENTLY EMPLOYED applicants...the unemployed are now considered "undesirables".

  • @centervilletn I agree the UI should be extended. I was only asking the questions of how long does the gov extend it since they cannot create jobs and the private sector can't create 15m either.

It is not a good situation in any way you can look at our current economy

  • @wakeupbreathing im with you..i dont know what the answer is but they better figure out some way to keep people peaceful...the level of anger is increasing everyday..and now people are talking openly about how "something" better get fixed...

  • @centervilletn I wish something could get fixed. I don't see any chance we are going to recover job wise for many years. What industries are going to create decent pay quality type jobs?

Even if the economy created 100K jobs a month that's only 1.2M leaving another 14M unemployed....that's another 10-12 years and that doesn't account for new people coming into the job market.

We are in a very bad spot and the gov is clueless

  • @wakeupbreathing Im unsure what sort of industry could be conducted here we no longer have the infrastructure..it would take decades to rebuild what we've exported....we dont have the technologically skilled people to do the work..I dont kwow any young person who is a machinist or welder...I have a masters degree and worked with emotionally disturbed kids ..the ones no one wants to work with...and i cant even get an interview...its not good

  • @centervilletn dont know either. I work for a major aerospace maunfaturer and most of our skilled machinists are gone also. We ship everything overseas. We have a hard time finding mechincal engineers. We need to import them from India.

So I'm with you I have no idea what industry and it would take 10 years if we had one. I'm fortunate now because we have not figured out a way to outsource our loacl area network, so I can still manage it...until they figure out how to ship that off too.

  • @wakeupbreathing Yes, Outsourcing is killing us. And FYI -

    allyourtvDOTcom/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1385

"Republicans have attempted on several occasions to extend unemployment coverage, and we would have done so by using unobligated stimulus funds and without relying on deficit spending. The most recent attempt came yesterday, when we offered a unemployment extension on the floor of the Senate. The Democrats objected because they wanted to tack on unrelated spending."

  • @submix8c agreed...they have tried to do it the right way. Unfortunately the MSM will neglect the include that part in any news reports. They will just say Repubs blocked the bill

  • i never have nor ever will i use any government handouts like U.E.I.

  • @odin422 I think I used UI for one month in 1973
