Wow! This is my passion too but I don't know where to find work anymore :/ I agree with everything this guy said. Interesting; I never new EV made speakers with that technology, i've always had to make a cut in the 3-5k range on the graphic. Anyway, cool stuff.. I hope to get back into doing this work more often!!
I dont know if you know this but I think when you grow up your going to be Gay, I can tell the way you talk and smile. Fight it, you were not born that way, its a choice.
I have 8 QSC RMX series amps for my mains (TriAmp tops with SUBS) and after 2 years on the road the gain pots have gone to crap on ALL of them. The first thing I have to do after un-lidding my racks is ask someone to run the volume knobs back and forth. Has QSC made any attempt to fix this? In the middle of a show I will stil loose my mids or SUBS and I will have to leave front of house to go screw around with the pots until they come back.
@mikayla: Hi there, this is Alex. There are typically a few different lights on most power amps, are you referring to the signal, clip, or fault lights? If you have the amplifier setup in bridge mono properly, I've come to understand it's of no consequence if the signal lights aren't perfectly matched. I've observed the same thing happening on some of the RMX amps I run in bridge mono. Clip and fault lights indicate a problem however...like incorrect wiring or not enough rig for the gig.
@isaacu: I know it sounds foolish, but it's actually something I read in a Mackie mixer manual. The key take away was the extra support they added across the mid section of their mixers so pressure would transfer to the chassis instead of to the circuit boards. I think overall I'd rather have my gear be tough...even if it does translate to a little more weight.
@erocca011: I'm pretty sure I'll be involved in sound reinforcement for much of my life, but I'm still not entirely sure if it will be my only career focus. I came across an interesting PDF created by the career development center at Berklee that gives some salary figures for FOH and monitor engineers. With a quick google search you should be able to find the PDF I'm talking about. See page 7 in particular.
Secondly, I do recommend power conditioners for every application. They not only eliminate feedback caused by lights or laptops plugged in on the same circuit, but they allow you to place a greater demand on your amplifier without throwing a breaker. Traditionally, 15 amp conditioners like the Alesis Power Trip8 are used for your FOH rack or portable PA and 20 amp conditioners like the Furman PL-Pro-C oversee amplifier racks. This of course is assuming you have enough amps to warrant a 20 amp PC
Ladjkaoz your assesment of the QSC amp could not be more incorrect. Sorry, but I must set the record strait. The PLX line you are referring to has only one claim to fame. I cuts weight by over 50%. In fact, if you look at the bridged and stereo RMS rating comparitively, you will find that the RMX series is the only one that produces over 3600 watts. Thats why I run two 5050's and four 2450's . When you use large speakers like the Cerwin Vega TS-42 to get your point across, you need serious power
@broocksba you are rigth the RMX line are the strongest (heaviest, and amp demanding) amps from QSC. Im saying RMX are for DJ price wise... RMX are very afortable but in my opion is not worth. how do you feel when carring or draggin that 140lb rack with only 2 AMPS THOSE AMPS ARE SUPER HEAVY and not power effience.
olso lack of power cause lots of heaches...
about power conditioners allowing you to.... place a greater deman on your amplifier without throwing or triping a breaker.. how?
@broocksba you have ts-42 where are you located I and how many do you have? i only have two old jbls sr4718 and two new yorkville ls1208. I wanted to get the 21s like cerwin vegas ts42 or yorkvilles ls2104 but buget won allow it.. and when hear them A and B test I fall for the ls1208.. but I still want to get some 21s
do u plug ur power amps to the surge supresors. I dont think thats very wise,
If I had to use QSC, i would use the PLXs. RMXs are entry level more for djs like me lol
I use crown. Power Base 1,2, K2 and I=tech 6000 with over 1000hrs of abuse if is possible to abuse this beast... you should try these I tech amps they will put a big smille in ur face bro.. trust me :D
@ladjkaoz: As a general rule of thumb I don't plug power amps into any type of surge suppressor. Rackmount power conditioners are great for outboard gear but power amps need to have ample available power available to carry them through peaks in the music material. For most smaller gigs a proper power distro simply isn't available, thus I've found plugging the power amps directly into the closest available outlet is the best way to go. Last, I've seen Crown Itech amps in action-definitely legit!
I would also like to make myself clear on why I support QSC in my below comment. Besides the reliable name, the GX-3 and GX-5 amps are excellent for low power systems as described below and well priced. The biggest claim to fame for the GX series and more powerful RMX series is that they are class H amps and use new technology that produces lower total harmonic distortion (0.01%) by increasing efficiency. This means better sound when running at 70% -85% of the amplifier's potential. Very rare...
@broocksba I obsolutely agree wd u brother...coz I own a dozen of QSC power amps...there great and highly engineered made for last....I trust most of QSC amps check out my profile and u can find dozen of those....
@SoundBlasterAudio so what about both led's blinking at the same time while in bridge mode? And as far as bi-amping really need to do more research I run 2 SP4's and 1 SP218. Which I plan on doubling later. And my SP4's are also run bridged mono with a crown ce 2000. And those only channel one flashes during music play!?
True they are morons, the only setback is that they lack the technical knowledge that a pro audio specialty shop usually has. EV and QSC are incredibly reliable names. Although the "Force i" series is the entry level to the EV loudspeaker family, it is by no means a crap product. For the average person that entertains 200 people or less, these speakers or the "Force i15" in combination with the matching subwoofer is a formidable setup and better quality than most people are willing to purchase.
@broocksba: Unfortunately not every musical instrument retail associate is a sound reinforcement enthusiast, thus many are simply ignorant in regards to live sound gear and best practices. It's alright to be ignorant; it gives one the opportunity to learn something new. For me live sound will be a lifelong learning process, so I hope I will always able to absorb new knowledge from the audio fanatics I meet.
if you have mixed on that thing for quite a few years you're not doing something right.
