  • who's ready for some drinks at the saloon?

  • when he does that "swooosh" I want to hit somebody in the head with a stool :)

  • Chuck Norris can play this with his dick...

  • Comment removed

  • But, can he play Circus Galop?

  • @Superb150Tv BUUUT, can he play U.N Owen was Her? :bigger trollface:

  • @GingaOkami BUUUT, can he play U.N. Owen Was Him? :Even bigger trollface:

  • holy crap... how fast he gonna go...

  • @onemorevideo1 That's what she said... I'm sorry i just couldn't help myself...

  • Everyone talks about his not being able to read music as if he had a disability, like being deaf or blind, that he is surmounting . No one should be proud of actively avoiding learning something, especially when it's important to know.

  • @BlindBoar None of the beatles could read that music. Its not that important unless you want to be a proper concert player.

  • @meowiamacow It's clear from your statement comparing pop music to 120+ year old solo piano performance that you may not be familiar with what's involved in playing musical instruments. The Beatles were great, but their genius was with their songwriting and recording technique, not in their actual instrument virtuosity--playing their music is actually quite easy. I won't critique the performance of the video above, as I applaud his efforts, but he will find more success if he tries to read.

  • @BlindBoar Yes, he will be more succesful as a piano player if he learns to read, but I was just saying, its not essential to learn to read music to be a musician in general. I would think that learning something like this by ear would take more musical skill than simply reading it. I'm sure that he hasn't "avoided" learning to read, he just hasn't been bothered.

  • @meowiamacow if someone can't read music, it isn't because they haven't bothered, its becuase they can't

  • Ironically, the composer of this piece, Scott Joplin, said, "Play this song slowly. It is never right to play ragtime fast."

  • I'm afraid I don't believe you have no musical ability. a good wind up for the first few seconds though

  • That's about how I'll have to learn to play this. I can sort of read music, and sort of play by ear, but I'll likely just be memorizing every note

  • hes girlfriend would be happy

  • this is a disgrace to the original piece

  • if you go 8000rpm a honda civic going until 11000rpm...

  • Very impressed by Doug's playing - especially as he cannot read music, and I keep coming back replaying this vid, but would still like to see/hear him play it at regular speed!

  • the piano was raped!!!!!

  • The classics are always catchy! :)

  • Who gives a shit to how fast you can play piano? omg -_-

  • @LGy95 I do, and so do 700,000 other people, and evidently, you.

  • @SgtMustang Really? Hard Piano Hero or somethin'?

  • @LGy95, actually the point in any instrument is to eventually play faster and faster with precise accurate speed. But you wouldn't know that since you're not a musician.

  • @DaVilyXiong "Eventually", you said it. You are obviously not a musician. If you are, you should really change your vision of playing an instrument: We are talking about emotions, not about a fucking speed contest. Rushing a piece just to say "Hey look how fast I can play!" is just, and I'm sorry for you, stupid.

watch?v=-LXl4y6D-QI - Listen and tell me what you think is the point of playing an instrument now.

  • @LGy95, I can see that you're hurt. I'll be an idiot if you're willing to admit that you are too. You didn't mention that in your comment, instead you just straight up dissed him. So clarify next time because no one can understand you.

  • @DaVilyXiong Not hurt, just shocked by your stupidity. Conversation stops here for me, you are uninteresting.

  • @LGy95, are you a musician? likewise... hehe

  • (insert comment on how the piano can still play after this here)

  • Are you aware there is sheet music available for free online?

  • Interesting interpretation - great skill!

  • Ragtime shouldnt played like this...I miss the story..what a shame

  • AMAZING!!!

  • One thing I've noticed about people who play really really fast is they don't really play too well when they need to play slow. I think it's impressive to see someone play the piano fast but the piano in all it's glory sounds better when it's played soft and slower paced.

  • his hands are fuckin massive

  • hes not asain!

  • it doesn't sound good when you play it that fast. It was meant to be played slower than that. If you want to show off speed, play petit chien

  • this is just stupid, who cares if you can play it fast... it doesn't matter how fast you can play something if it sounds like crap

  • you freek and in the good way ;)

  • cool

  • uups. I broke it.

  • I like pie.

  • @darkmaster426 me too O.O incredible

  • 1:15-1:18, I hear thomas the tank engine

  • He's good. But still an infant compared to Liberace

  • he's not even human!

  • pianos were built for this song, not the song for the piano

  • i love the description too it makes me a little feel better about my life at the piano (:

  • That was beautiful

  • it actually isnt that hard to play a piano piece incredibly fast, if you play it over and over. Maple leaf rag is also easier than most piano pieces to play fast because there are patterns to it that make it easier to remember. also, he learned by ear, and he must have practiced this song alot, so bear in mind he only probably knows only a handful of songs. so to me, this is no extraordinary feat, and doesnt make him an extraordinary pianist. i am not better, just giving an opinion

  • @FinalFantasyZack You obviously don't know how to read descriptions. It very clearly states in the description he can't play by ear and that he simply memorized it.

  • @AidanDelano I do know, I just didnt bother. I'll be sure to read it thoroughly next time I try to make a general point. I thought I avoided these types of situations by not being overly critical. I apologize that you apparently took my comment as a personal offence.

  • I loved the part where he played ragtime,,,,

  • lol i love when he smiles as if its a breeze!

  • This isn't even the real version of the maple leaf rag anymore...

  • This is like a sin to Scott Joplin.

  • 382 People stopped watching before 1:35.

  • gran turismo menu music, pisses me off when trying to play

  • Comment removed

  • Very good, Doug! I'd hire you.

  • mute this video at 0:00 until 3:15.

  • I also prefer the original version- not too impressed with his "sounds like" edition... I see Scott rolllin' in the grave,......

  • I prefeer the version i play (the original). This version sucks!

  • Comment removed

  • it looks like his hands are fast forwarded

  • its pretty awesome (y)

  • Wow this is awful. I'm blind, also can't read music, also never took lessons, but at least I can play this song. Stop saying you cant read/never took lessons. No one cares if you're still awful. Maybe you take some.

  • @dekarno just wonderin, if you are blind, how are you typing? No disrespect, just wonderin..?

  • @BloodHarvest21 Haha it's ok. I have a braille keyboard and my computer reads the text back to me.

  • this is bullcrap. i know how to play this music. this guy ruins it. so fuckin retarded. he doesent even deserve to touch the piano

  • this guy clearly cannot play piano at all...............

  • cooool =) don't care about little mistakes, on the whole, it makes really a good impression!

  • you haven't memorized well

  • Doug Jones attempting the Maple Leaf Rag. Be kind... no lessons, can't read music, can't play by ear... just memorized one note at a time. :-) -- Love how the chords aren't mistaken this is just advertising that should be removed, Fail!

  • great! I love it faster, but I'd get a cramp playing this way!! The latter part is rather funny, the tempo makes me laugh :-)

  • i dont know why everybodys moaing? this is fantastic!!

  • to respond to the vidoe description. You cant just memorize a piece like this and not have talent. he also has a pretty good ear because if he didn't he wouldn't be able to play the song. Besides it requires a lot of coordination to play fast. but the fast ragtime sounds horrible.

  • all i see is people in black and white running after each other, in and out of doors and such

  • Comment removed

  • You don't seem to have control of the sound coming out of the piano. Your articulation is random and bad. I guess you are too busy hitting the keys to pay attention to the immediate tone of what you're playing. I like a smooth even rhythm, medium fast, a jovial articulation for this Joplin piece. With all due respect, since you play by ear you should be listening better.

  • this is guy is really good...Respect my friend, any one who can play an instrument that good is truly awesome...

  • ha. he learned piano the same way i learned guitar.

  • This is not good

  • OMG!! He look slike Bugs Bunny when he starts goin real fast!!

  • :(

  • As said Scott Joplin: it is a bad idea to play ragtime fast !

  • @dutoitc01 just shoot up and do it better.

always not funny coments.. be creativ man

  • @GreenDevilAngel not understood ? do you hate everyone ? this was just a citation matching my meaning of this music, nothing more. And please, I do not want to rent youtube movies ;-)

  • @dutoitc01 I agree. Ragtime IMHO has to be played very sensitively to bring out the true deep meloncholy which underlies the superficial light happy surface.

  • how long did it take you to learn this?

  • Ear trained musicians are the best!

  • thats pretty fast :D

  • I wished I could be as talented! Thank You!

  • How piano is related to fitness???

  • @AngaratoC because of how technical it is. you have to take step by step and slow. like in fitness you dont want to hurt yourself so you go slow and steady like piano. it seems simple but its very very technical. hope this helped :)

  • @AngaratoC I don't know but it gives us a nice view

  • @AngaratoC if u tap Bb really fast for 30 seconds, its equivalent to a 1 mile jog

  • @AngaratoC Tell me playing a piano this fast wouldn't keep you fit. I dare you.

  • well it's evident that you don't play by ear, there were a few minor mistakes.. but great job, keep it up :)

  • love the playing. guy's got major skills. :) sorry if it's not fast enough or the right style for the rest of ya'll...

  • SuperMan :))

  • This is a joke. It's not even fast at all.

  • what is this song called??

  • @Singersweetgaga maple leaf rag

  • Even if you can't read the music, at the top it says "Ragtime is not meant to be played fast." Personal preference I suppose. It's fun that way though.

  • @awkpidgin many people associate this style of music with the Sort of silly style of older movie where the frame rate has been increased for and the music is rather exciting so it is not uncommon for someone to mistaken ragtime as a fast upbeat swing style of music even though it probably was not originally intended to be so ;)

Perhaps that may be insightful or perhaps not

  • What up with all the negative comments? This is great c:

  • fai veramente cagare

  • When you slaughter MLR, you blur the notes, fail with the tempo, excise all emotion and basically force us to compare your every terrible note with the way the piece is supposed to be played. Your shit eating grin doesn't help. But no self-aggrandizing clown puts this kind of crap online without reading the comments, so at least I get to wound you a little bit. God knows your horrid piano playing wounded me.

  • This is terrible. I feel embarrassed for you. I'm sure you feel fine, because you got all these hits; but this is seriously some of the worst piano playing I've ever heard. A child can't even approach how poorly you play, because at least when they fail, the piece is unrecognizable.

  • @khakjaan He's better than me... Why the hate? :)

  • I ain't the type to diss you, kinda like to hit you

That's the situation, bring wifey with you

Would you like a tissue? (Why?) You gon' need it

for the cum up in your nose babygirl cause you suckin my cock

    Ain't a question now, it's a guarantee

They say I think I'm the shit, well apparently

But you won't hear words like "Marry me"

Only thing you gonna hear is, suck it or not

  • you make light seem slow

  • You shut up @simschken you cant do what doug does you can play yor asian music and i can listen to ragtime you dumm gook.

  • You shut up @simschken you cant do what doug can do... your just a dum gook, you suck.

  • So wait, where is the fast bit??

  • well for a guy who was never formally trained, thats pretty cool. good job!

  • Comment removed

  • bad version. Even I can play it better -.-

  • @simschken oh really? wheres your vid? i don't see it.. hmm 0 videos. and if you could actually play it and you were smart youd put it on youtube. but the truth is, you suck, and your full of shit. so open your asian eyes to reality and know your place, he's better than you.

  • @thehandyman052 no way. There's no need to show you anything.

  • you shut up @thehandyman052 you cant do what doug does you can play and listen to your asian music and i can listen to ragtime you gook

  • @usmcmarines2000 fuck off you dick

  • Im almost certain i saw the keys smoking a litle when he finished lol.awesome!

  • is that doug jones the movie actor/stuntman

  • Man you are crazy :D

    Like you

  • It's videos like these that make me want to learn to play piano!

  • HOLLY SH** Just doesn't quite say it!!! I know the first 2 parts of this song and have tried to play it fast (and I can) but I start to miss the keys on the left hand b4 I get half as fast as that!!! This guys the man!!!

  • I'd say that's pretty swell playing.. especially since it's all by ear... a job well done, sir!

  • I think he's awesome, I mean holy shit! look at those hammers go!!!

  • WOW AT 1:34 LOOK AT HIS FINGERS MOVE =O LOL!

  • Amazing work Sir. Very nice.

  • That RonaiHenrik can't spell that well instead of peice she spelle peace he, he , he

  • @NewportBagel Lol instead of peice? What is spelle? :D:D "he, he, he"

Btw, I know it's piece. And guess what, I'm not an American. And still, I think I can speak more languages with my 16 years than you with your 43.You have had 27 years more to learn English, furthermore, that's your motherlanguage. I use this language 5 times a week for 1 hour (I help you: that's in total 5 hour), and you use it almost always. I made ONE mistake, and you made 3. So plz sshhhhh... (or stfu? I really don't know)

  • @NewportBagel Btw you are very very very VERY brave. You see, there's a little button beside my comment. You should push that, if you want to react to my comment...

  • @NewportBagel And I'm not a 'she'... 'Henrik' is a guys name you dickhead -.-

  • What a classy gent

  • of course this is a very good piano player and of course hes got a very good techinque.

but just why would you turn such a perfect piece of music into something like THIS ??? dont like it.

  • Does anyone know what "the secret" of exercise is? (His over-selling made me scared to enter my e-mail)

  • This is amazing!! for someone who cant read music you are amazing!!

i myself play and i cn play the first section at about the same speed u can, but i cant improvise it like you can! Greaet Job!!!!!!

  • @IDontNo159 thw player actually can read notes, but the uploader does not. It is not the same guy :D

  • i want to learn this song so bad!

  • OMG!!! and i need to play that!!?!?!?!

  • OMG!!!

  • fucking bravo, man!

  • Lovin the extremely fast maple leaf! You need to make a cover for the fig leaf rag

  • Fast is nice if you're in bed with really ugly person and want to get it over with quick or if your shooting your best friend, but the maple leaf rag doesn';t need 'super fast" distortion..not impressed.

  • I think beatdownz3x3 has had more than his share of tossing salad.

  • Made me dance!!

  • made me dance!!

  • love it

  • Cool beyond words. What an amazing person to play Joplin. Joplin would have been proud.

  • owwww i wonder if this guy has ever experienced hand cramps..... man what stretch do you do to prevent that?? hahah spectacularly played btw :)

  • You are amazing. Even more so because you can't read music and have never had lessons. Great job!

  • isnt memorizing each note considered playing by ear? besides that, excellent for no lessons.

  • dam that piano is on crack! ha ha ha

  • Amazing! I can play this but not as flawless and fast as you!!! My best friend and I pplay ragtime all day haha! You inspired me to keep going with ths song!!! Thank you!!!

  • this is great :) and for jakubkrcma: its ragtime piano, so there aren't many dynamics to be played :/ although he does play them, there is clear contrast between piano and forte :/ i guess coz its an echoe room its hard to tell.

  • He is good for not reading music and no lessons. Wow!

  • BTW: I am no piano player etc., but from what I hear, it sounds a bit like he has little dynamic range. It sounds to me (by no means a piano expert) like he plays all (or most) notes the same. Some piano ladies/dudes, correct and explain to me, if I am wrong. Thanks

  • My god!! this is brilliant hahaa, i've been doing piano for 7 years now and im no-where near as good as hikm! hahaa

  • I wish I had 1/10000 of his skill! I wonder how much he pays a month for piano strings?

  • He's OK. And you know what? I don't care about speed, perfection, etc. It's the soul that matters. You can have the best piano, the best piece, the best skill, get 100% of the notes right, be the fastest in the world, etc. and STILL totally suck at making any thrilling impression. Perfection is for machines, humans live and should live off of emotions.

  • @jakubkrcma well said

  • @jakubkrcma Seconded.

  • have to say that I loathe ragtime piano, however, there is considerable skill in being able to play it.Can't stand trad jazz either, but appreciate the finer works of Richard Clayderman, a real piano shredder.

  • i like the description: Doug Jones attempting the Maple Leaf Rag. ATTEMPTING MY ASS

  • Your awesome!

  • SOUNDS GREAT! WISH I COULD DO THAT!

  • What's the name of this song he is playing?
