@WCdragoninja Well it depends on the type of harp, the kind he has is made for playing on teeth, he is playing on his lips, producing a much lower sound quality and a volume. And the second thing is not necessarily wrong but shows he is not an expert is to play faster and slightly modified tunes you can twang the twangier both directions, inward and outward.
So what would youuu grab off a nail in yer cabin? Man, I never could play that thing. So you let it vibrate on your teeth and open tour throat? I got the throat part, but I never could get the metal bars to resonate...or is it the reed that hits your teeth? It came with a little pamphlet that said 'genuine Ozark mouth harp' or something to this effect. So how dooo you do it?
I know many professional mouth harp players (yes, there are professional mouth harp players, check my videos) have asked their dentists regarding this, and they always get the same answer: No, the mouth harp does not harm your teeth!
If the mouth harp-tongue keep hitting your teeth, you're probably playing a lousy cheap harp, or you're doing it wrong.
Also, playing on the lips instead of the teeth "mutes" the harp, like when you touch a guitar string.
oh yeah a lot of people still play these jew's harps or jaw harps. We even have a festival in Bay city Oregon called the North American Jews Harp Festival held on Aug 1st and 2nd 2008. Jews harpers from all over the globe come for jammin, performin, taking workshops and for a general fantastic memorable time. If you are anywhere near Bay City on Aug 1,2 be sure to stop by and check it out. Theres always somebody there to teach you how to use one too!
In Galiza, in the far western Europe, is called "trompa" or "Berimbau" (which has another meaning in Brazil), seach youtube: "Trompa na Fonsagrada" How to make That instrument.

@paulj0557 Change the shape of your mouth to change the pitch. You could also use your tounge and throat to do it.

On your teeth or on your lips (the teeth get damaged after long time playing, and it sounds almost the same on your lips..)
