Obviously you've never taken a look at the still incredibly fun and entertaining arcade versions of Pole Position and Pole Position II. Also to get the smooth full screen graphics of VCS Pole Position out of the VCS was quite a feat then and still to this day.
The cartoon had NOTHING to do with the game, the show had two cars belonging to a family of stunt drivers who were actually spies (or something) and the cars had removable AI's that helped transform the cars (ski's and boosters etc)
however even though it had no link to the game, in the shows credits it does mention how its based on Namco's pole position game!
pole position in the arcade was pretty cool. i remember playing that game a lot

Pole Position pretty much set the standard on how racing games were made. . .
And no other racing game these days has your car turn in to a ball of fire and scattered parts when you crash! That's classic!!!

Was the Pole Position 80's cartoon series anything to do with the game? Or was it a Speed Racer clone cash-in?
