  • What means that "P" on his cap? i'm from poland and i don't know

    Thanks

  • Thumbs up if you knew who Jaco was before Flea said anything.

  • What happened to the footage of Jaco doing Portrait of Tracy at this gig?

I can't find it, and it's one of my favorite live versions..

  • Listen to those sets of smooth drops he get's after :55.

  • If this was really 1976, it was when Jaco was at the top of his game before he got into drugs and alcohol...

  • I never knew so many Chili Pepper fans were into jazz :P

  • Dan Briggs is the Metal Version of this man

  • @HiPPoKryPtiC Apparently you haven't heard Sean Malone of Cynic, he even wrote a book on Jaco.

  • Thx Flea!

  • i like his hat!

  • thanks Flea, you know what is a good musician!

  • He plays the bass like a saxophone or a trumpet here. Awesome.

  • For the people who don't know, Flea just called Jaco #1 on his twitter and linked this.

  • 3 people uses PICK

  • COOL!!!!! THANKS FLEA FOR BRIN ME HERE!!!!!!!!

  • Great! Great!! Great!!! Jaco is great amazing electric bassist!!!!

  • 440 fucking idiots. It shouldnt take a fidgety one style of bass playin ass crackhead motherfucker to turn you on to the REAL shit.

  • True genius never follow. They are always too busy creating and exploring to even notice mediocrity. Jaco was a great adventurer and took us places we might never have been able to go. He was taken from us way too early but we're blessed to have been touched by his genius. Thank you for the music!

  • If I was Flea and had sent you this, I'd think twice before sharing a vid again after reading my butt discussed and compared all sides along here, so I'd say stop all these comparisons.

  • I'd like him better if he wasn't a phillies fan haha

  • Modest is Flea. Flea's playing has influenced and brought happiness to as many if not more people in my opinion.

  • takes one to know one..

  • tnhx Flea xD !!!

  • Thank you Flea for this moment!

  • Idiot people always comparing people, they just don't know about bass, if you are one of them one thing that you should do is shut the fuck up

  • Since when James Franco plays the bass?

  • I wonder how many views this has gone up by thanks to Flea?

  • the flea is the best!

  • Is that Chuck Norris playing the trombone? Or am I just crazy?

  • Have they switched instuments???

  • Nice. Drummer seems pretty good too!

  • Jaco is boss!

& Mouzon? ... Woowee, dude is killin'!

  • He has nothing on Flea!

  • @daniel123442

Except he did everything before Flea. They dont even compare. No Jaco = NO FLEA. What dont you people get?

Flea is good, but not nearly this good.

  • @EverydayRockets Believe me, liston to "de lous in the comatorium" from mars volta. Flea is incredible there.

  • @monoreloco

Im not saying he isnt a great bass player, he just isnt Jaco and nobody will ever be Jaco. Many many more people can sound like Flea...no one sounds like Jaco.

  • Well...by Rolling Stone, John Entwistle is #1 and Flea is the #2 best bassist of all time haha. Thumbs up if you saw the RHCP Hoppus interview and get this!!

  • Flea sent me here! Haha

  • if Flea says Jaco Pastorius is the best bass player then i agree (A) but Flea to me u're number 1!

  • flea sent me here

  • Thanks Flea ;D

  • Thank you for the link Flea! <3

  • Is that Billy Cobham?

  • I love his hat.

  • Best video!

  • Who disliked this? You should be ashamed of yourself?

  • the master

  • jaco ....

  • Many moons ago at the age of 15 I first heard Jaco and was so blown away I ripped the frets out of my only bass guitar to turn it into a fretless. I then merrily filled the gaps with slivers of a chopped up, discarded oak dining table. Not knowing anything about the stress of strings, the warping of wood etc imagine my suprise when my only instrument turned into a fucking longbow. Shite for playing jazz... but would have played a blinder at Agincourt!

  • Always great to watch some classic jaco !!

  • The drummer is Alphonse Mouzan. Played with Larry Coryell and anyone else who was anyone back in the fusion days.Very funky guy...

  • Nomnomnomnom Fretless bass <3______<3

  • so thats where the rebel soldiers got their helmets from!

  • Is that billy cobham on the drums?

  • Fue unico

  • Superb!

  • the drummer: Alphonse Muozon

  • Perfect bass that the world has it.

  • jaco vs mark king = end of the world as we know it

  • What song is that? I like it!

  • How sick would it be if Jaco played for Frank Zappa? Pretty sick, I'd say.

  • @GuiseppePipes That would have been the best thing ever.

  • How sick would it be if Jaco played for Frank Zappa? Pretty sick, I'd say.

  • GO PHILS!!! At least Jaco is a PHAN of the Greatest Baseball Team around!

  • Giant boxing glove on the drummer's head.

  • He's really good..... so are many others, I can accept that, hell musicians from bands I hate (damn you linkin park) are probably pretty good. Almost all of them are better than me, there's no reason to get upset about, Jaco is the greatest- if you think so, Flea is the greatest- if you think so. People honestly look for videos so they can fight, well have fun with that...... opinion Nazis suck! But that's just my opinion...

  • @Jazzhansolo If you think Flea is the "greatest", you have no perspective on music.

  • Magic.

  • drums=jazz-blast-beat? o.O

  • who is the drummer?

  • No he probably couldn't name his own cock. 1980Triumph should be stoned with FUCK Havan.

  • Great...

  • Guys the drummer is Alphonse Mouzon Jazz fusion great- remember Jaco worked close and was produced by Bobby Columby- another of the great NY Jazz drummers in the 70's ,and leader of Blood Sweat and Tears

  • so this was recorded when the punk movement was kicking off.....

give me some punk please !! :-)

  • random notes by Jaco..............ummm ok

  • @1980Triumph It's called jazz man.

  • @1980Triumph you hate Jaco so much yet I always see you trolling on all his vids, everytime I'm peacefully watch I always seem to run into your comments XD.

  • @jryuwah

Surpsingly I was bought to many videos by Jaco fans in vain attempts to show me or prove to me how wonderful he is. At this point they have shown me nothing. To one of their credits, they did share some of Jaco's better moments, his work with JM was ok at best and at the very least consistent. This performance is garbage though, and even at his best he is not the greatest of all time or the revolutionary people pretend he is.

  • @1980Triumph may I ask if your a bass player yourself?

  • @1980Triumph Remember me? I sent you those videos of Jaco, can you name another 5 bass players that have inspired millions of people around the world?

  • @ianonfire I love Jaco, myself.. but let me take a crack at this list:

    Stanley Clarke

    Les Claypool

    John Entwistle

    John Paul Jones

    Flea

Oh.. was that supposed to be a hard list? I named those off the top of my head in about 3 seconds. :\

  • @emphaticleech yea, I phrased that sentence wrong as I read this again, my bad.

  • @ianonfire I'll take you up on it, though I'm expecting flames for this list. Bear in mind I have a very different musical taste arena, so to speak.

    John Paul Jones

    Geddy Lee

    Cliff Burton

    Steve Harris

    John Entwistle

They're my favorites, at least, in no particular order.

  • @ianonfire Actually, I also just realized James Jameson was a hugely influential player, but I have no more room. Dangit.

  • @emphaticleech Entwistle should be at the TOP of any list of greatest bass players.

  • @Thunderfingers999 My list wasn't in any particular order. That being said I way prefer Stanley Clarke and Greg Lake.

  • @emphaticleech None of those guys you listed would tell you he's half the player jaco is

  • @ROCKSTAR1B13 So? Doesn't mean they're not. Brian Setzer doesn't think he's that good of a guitarist. It's something called modesty. All good musicians have it.

  • @1980Triumph This sh0uldn't have to be said; but I haven't seen so much as a vain attempt from you to show us how well you can play a bass guitar

  • Who's the drummer? This is great footage.

  • @drmrls1 Drums: Alphonse Mouzon / Trombone: Albert Mangelsdorff

  • @drmrls1 Guys the drummer is Alphonse Mouzon Jazz fusion great- remember Jaco worked close and was produced by Bobby Columby- another of the great NY Jazz drummers in the 70's ,and leader of Blood Sweat and Tears

  • too bad the drumming got cut

  • There have been zero negative ratings for this video so far :) That's what I'm talkin' about!

  • blessinxx

  • nobody did that before him

  • stop comparing people

  • fkn great , the drummer makes it hot.

But why has he got a lump of raw meat on his head?

  • wow....amazing

  • hey jaco show cliff how to play bass

  • @lionmanrocker I'm quite sure Mingus and PC have gotten to him by now...

  • That drummer ain't too shabby either.

  • damn i wanted to see that batery solo that was coming

  • he's the steve howe of bass

  • @nucleardude11 he's the chuck norris of bass! :P

  • @pebblefrog196 - Luc Havan is the Chuck Norris of beating up bass players.

  • Hey Mr. Medied;

    Easy to criticize

    Hard to do

    We'll never see you on the cover of a magazine;

So stop already with the pooh-pooh

  • Comment removed

  • cool.........

  • man I wish I was Jaco

  • @A2KID420 - Go start a fight with Luc Havan and you could be.

  • @iRewel is that the guy that killed him? what the hell kind of comment was that I meant like have his bass mindset.

  • @A2KID420 - Fighting him can help you achieve Jaco's current mindset.

  • @iRewel He needs to enter a Santana concert first

  • @A2KID420 - Did you go fight Luc yet?

  • JACO WAS HERE

  • @MrMeddled

Jaco couldn't groove???? In this clip Jaco played abstract jazz.

Listen to The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines by Joni

Micthell, from her album Mingus. Jaco plays bass on it,

    and grooves amazingly!!

  • Hey, do someone have the all video of this show???

  • @giorgiosl500

You can buy the DVD from amazon.com

Search after Trilogue: Live In Berlin 1976

  • GO PHILLIES !!!!!!!

  • @MrMeddled "the music of poor black people" I think you are confusing jazz with blues!?

Already in the 1920's jazz was almost as "white" as it was "black" (remember Bix Beiderbecke for instance) and the performers was not always poor ;)

The first music called jazz was a mix of Ragtime and Blues with German march music, French vaudeville music, Gypsy music, classical influences etc. It was quite European in several respects.

I totally agree the tickets are tooo expensive though ;)

  • silly

  • うーん、nice kap!!

  • go Phillies

  • @MrMeddled If it is white, black, greene or blue people dont matter the only thing that matter is the soul and feel!

Now if you don't mind I'm going to stick on Kind of blue.

  • @MrMeddled

It is not meant to be that everybody should comprehend true musical art!

That´s the reason why we have commercial music!

  • @ mheadbass

I agree. Of all the video content out there that I've seen, this cut most clearly illustrates 'what the big deal is' about Jaco.

    A +++ a thousand-pluses more.

  • I just got this one...........great shots of Jaco up close and burning. This is one of the best Jaco Pastorius videos I own and I own almost all of them. Great job posting this one Rick. See you round the boards buddy.

  • That's the way David Siard and I were in the 1970's . God I miss him.

  • Alphonse Mouzon plays for the Luckman Jazz Orchestra in the Luckman Theater at my school (Cal State LA) and I work there as usher!

  • you are gonna kill me but this is the best recording of jaco, weather report included.

  • Is the drummer disguised into a dick?

  • NO STUPID COMMENT

  • Thank you Rick! Jaco's spirit lives on!

  • jaco...the best bass-man in the world!
