I did not expect the clapping at the end. I was listening to it very carefully at her lovely playing and then all of a sudden..... I heard clapping that made me jump;) she was great:)))
Cynthia is awesome and perfectly reproduces the baroque atmosphere. I probably will get a lot of flack for saying that, but I still think that Telemann is superior to Bach
@Mrrossinifreak I discovered his fantasias for violin recently, and although I will not go so far as you in the comment comparing him with Bach, I prefer this works to the more famous partitas for violin solo of the Cantor. I play the violin and one of my dreams is to play all the fantasias by Telemann.
I want to thank everyone for the comments. But what makes all this possible is the real line, let them not modesty, a sense of what is truly good to hear. Music well performed! is what we seek. so why not spread best?!
@KwonJiyong33 It's a "German bow," meaning an 18th-century bow with the bowstrings looser, and able to wrap over the strings to make chords. The German-style bow went out of fashion at the end of the 18th century, but in Telemann's time it was the bow they all used. It worked very well with violins that were strung with gut, and bowed with edge of the bow.
@looterish I was assuming it was that particular type of bow because of the way she was holding it. As far as I know (which is not much!) the Baroque bow was called a "German bow."
@KwonJiyong33 I have occasionally seen volinists playing modern instruments with modern bows who also use this style of grip high up on the stick. I guess it works for them.
great playing, but i was just wondering, ive seen some people hold their bows like 1/4 of the way like her, is it a different bow or just a different position?
That was SO nicely done! I loved every second! ...and yes, full, rich sound! I love how the acoustics of the venue texture the performance. Just marvelous!
Training would be very helpful, but there is a lot that is the same, obviously. Give it a try. Many "modern" violinists are surprised at how much they love it, and how it suits early music better. Have fun.

@looterish I'm not sure what a German bow is, but I think she is using a typical late baroque bow with normal tension.

Beautiful. Can you tell me what pitch you are tuned to? It feels different.
bubblybassoonist 7 months ago
@bubblybassoonist This baroque violin uses a reference pitch of 415.3 Hz, which is about a half step lower than modern pitch.

@darius195.- If you could play that well, you would be teaching your teacher.
1939newton 1 year ago 5
@darius195 its also a baroque bow not a modern, you need to hold it where Cynthia is for more control.
OrganoAeternam 1 year ago
@OrganoAeternam Oh I see, I didn't even know what a baroque violin was until just now. I thought she was holding it like that for style.
darius195 1 year ago
@darius195
She's using a "baroque bow" which requires a different hand position. The bow is convex, not concave, and has a different center of gravity.

@tineke9988 Would an experienced violinist be able to play a baroque violin? Or would it take further training?
