  • This game was intense... Gameplay and cut scenes... It still blows my mind. lol

  • this story and soundtrack is redonk!

  • Where pixelated graphics can look cool.

  • Irene has a straight up 'fro

  • 2:56 Arguably the best music in the entire game. I'm a grown man, and I still imagine it in my head, sometimes.

  • There is something wrong in here. Starting from 16:55 the castle should be falling apart, but it remains complete. I remember playing this game and finishing it a lot and the castle actually getting destroyed :-/

  • EPIC FAIL 4:52 , they where just chating and suddenly a ninja stole the shadow statue xD

  • 1:10!!!!!

  • Foster obviously killed Dr. Smith.. @ the end he ordered Ryu killed.

  • Ryu: "And if I say no?"

Foster: "You know the answer to that"

Ryu: "The answer is I rip you and your whole agency apart because I'm a badass Ninja Dragon with amazing powers that can KILL demons?"

    Foster: *gulp*

  • @ksharpminor *LMAO*

  • I still don't know, to this day, who killed Smith. I'm guessing the Jaquio or one of the Malice Four did.

  • @wormwood5073 I always took Ryu's non-responsive reactions to Foster's repeated claims that Smith was killed by someone else as an indication that he didn't believe him. When we learn at the end how involved Foster was, it makes sense that he would have arranged for Smith's death in order to force Ryu into fighting Jaquio and awakening the demon, proving Ryu was right not to trust him early on.

  • epic!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Have a nice day." XD

  • 9:50 EPIC, Still remember this shot when I used to play this in Elementary skool

  • Wait if the steel sanurai cutscene from pheonix wright a reference to this?

  • thumbs up if tgs sent you here

  • @nitrome29

    what's tgs?

  • @acidglow The Game Station

  • @Xanre83

ah i see. Dunno why they'd mention my videos =p

  • @acidglow

why not? they get u some extra views. I'm also here becouse of them.

  • @acidglow its a stupid video they did for fun if your interested here it is watch?v=vUGR_5rvG24&feature=feedu

  • @acidglow /watch?v=vUGR_5rvG24

  • @acidglow they had a feature on the PV community theatre acting out cutscenes from games, and mentioned this one. and they had an annotation here so you could see the original cutscene.

  • @vernemeton

Ah I see, thanks. I always have annotations off. I see it now.

  • @acidglow the game station its a youtube channel

  • @nitrome29 Uhh, you realize comment voting is disabled?

  • @ddic lol sorry i didnt realize my bad

  • wow.... this game has some solid story line for a ninja game

  • never notice the names ken and ryu before!

this game has caused me such an impression in the old days.

  • I actually had my own Rage Quit for this when I was younger. What a hard game for a kid.

  • min: 12:13 god song

  • @acidglow Not the creatures, but the music and the cutscenes. I was not even 10 when this came out, so maybe that makes sense? The cutscenes are just terrifying, even now to me.

  • Some of the scariest moments of my childhood came from this game!

  • @LordSolaris

I know, those flying bats, killer eagles and hopping cougars would give me nightmares for years too! ~sarcasm =p

  • Thanks for posting this, I adore the whole NG series. :)

  • Ninja gaiden for X360 and ps3 is nothing compared to this :D

  • This game put the NES console on the map. There was nothing like it at the time. I found it amazing seeing these "cinema displays" as a kid and they still look good to this day. This game can be completed rather quickly without much hassle. It just involves playing it repeatedly til you memorize where the enemies appear and adjust your gameplay accordingly.

  • tune at 5:17 is one of the best i've ever heard on NES.

  • @AmbientPlanet

That's my fav Ninja Gaiden tune. I have it in my winamp playlist =)

It's the same theme played when you fight the Masked Devil (your father). It's such a nice tune =)

  • I remember being scared after discovering Dr. Smith was dead.

  • @ 12:10 my favorite beat of the cut scenes

  • iam a girl wo love games when i was litte i was afraid for the cutscene from this game i dont know why i wash scared tho dead for Jaquio my brother always maked me scared for Jaquio

  • I rather this NG to the xbox versions. The NES versions are better. Tomonobu Itagaki is an ass...

  • this game was a motherfucker to beat!!!

  • Love the music starting at 6:20.

  • wow this music is boss

  • ty acid for uploading :)

  • @ShotokanEditor

Yup. alot of us wanted to see them :)

  • all the new ninja gaiden games were prequels to the old ones

  • If this game didn't make you want to grow up to be a ninja, then you probably were too old or not born yet. Still some of the best game music imo.

  • Epic plot twist @ 13:08. This game is a masterpiece.

  • Ninja Gaiden may be hard as shit, but it still kicks ass.

    Usually mine, but still.

  • One of Nintendo's finest.

Great storyline, great game, and a happy end!

  • "..." Best video game quote ever.

  • This was awesome. I remember the first time I beat this game. I must've screamed to the top of my lungs. It took me forever to beat it and I think I got lucky.

  • Foster was a fucking badass. He's always fucking shit up for Ryu.

  • Ninja Gaiden had a deep and touching story and characters for a NES game back in 1988.

  • So true. Even though not as epic back in the day as the Famicom Fire Emblem games, it was CERTAINLY up there as one of the five best. But then again, maybe Fire Emblem shouldn't be counted as it was only released on the Famicom, the Japanese NES, back then...

  • Man this is epic, I was never able to get very far in this game, due to being so young when it was released. I actually still own it... Haven't tried it again over 10 years, such a hard game.

  • Fact is this shit is gold and the new shit is gold in its self because on mentor it`s fucking retardedly hard and the cutscenes are so much more worth it when it can take up to 2 days to see a new one haha

  • @chucett1989 wow you're absolutely right! Hehe, amazing.

  • 10.05 lol castlevania castle

  • Unbelievably epic

Considering these were the first cutscenes ever in a video game

  • Awesome cutscenes :) would be great if they did make a movie based on this game and story :)

  • Damn. all the Ninja Gaiden saga for the NES was pretty amazing, the game, the music, the drama hahaha everything in this games are good, Mr. @acidglow have you ever noticed that the song at 15:56 is one classic from Danielle Licari, an amazing singer with a powerful voice???, check the song called "Romeo et Juliette" and you will see what I mean. By the way, great vid, I really loved it

  • ryu's father's name was originally ken hayabusa but dey changed it to joe hayabusa in da 360 version smh...

  • @IceMann402

noted. The storyline in NG360 didn't even mention anything to the previous games so it was a new story altogether.

  • @acidglow so basically da whole xbox series was a reboot? i hate when dey do shit lyke dat wit video games it makes it soo confusing

  • @IceMann402

call it what you want but xbox NG games had no connection to the previous games story lines. NG1 on NES, his father dies but he's alive in the xbox games.. so either the xbox ones take place before the first NG game or they just made their own story with no connection to the past.. whatever..

  • @IceMann402 The name Ken in the original NES games was a mistranslation.

  • - She's right in front of me.

    - :D

    *kisses*

    - Wait, I don't even know your name.

    Um, that's usually a BAD sign... :|

  • At 18:41 they incorrectly spell "received" is "recieved".

  • Boy that sure was a classic. I remember my cousin showing me this game back in the 90's. It was Japanese so I couldn't understand the storyline back then, and I didn't even know the game's title. I had no idea this was to be the very beginning of the Ninja Gaiden legacy. After playing the Dead or Alive games and sampling the Ninja Gaiden XBox version and then learning about this I was like "THAT was Ryu Hayabusa? Wow!"

  • 9:30 is some ice cold shit

  • . .never made it past stage 3.

    thanks for this.

  • Ruy is too cute for her!

  • I remember when I first saw the temple @10:07, I thought it was the best graphics for the NES at that point. Its still awsome looking. If you notice at the upper right of it you can see the place where you fight Bloody Malth.

  • @bwd81977 Wait till you see the one in Ninja Gaiden II where he sees the path to the alter

  • Decent story and pretty kick butt music I think! One of the games that stuck in my memory from when I was young, playing it

  • 'headquaters' hahaha

  • This is a terrific game. Nice job! This brings so many good memories...

  • i remember when i beat this game in the 80's and i wanted to record all of the cut scenes. thnks.. gr8

  • Best game ever

  • Great Story

  • Malth was a hard motherfucker

  • @Juvy29

Hell yeah. This whole game was a hard motherfucker.

  • I was playing this game last night, got to level 6-2 and paused it for the night, got up to finish it and saw my nes had been turned off by my roommate...so fuck it I'm gonna just watch this and move onto ninja gaiden 2...

  • Nice story.

  • @acidglow Acidglow the demon in the game are they really space aliens or a demon-demon from hell?

  • @Uberaoshi

NG1 and 2 the story line makes them out to be Demons but in NG3.. the story went a different way to make them seem like Aliens with all this weaponry and technology..

  • @streeTkiDwannaBe

    Wow, that would suck.

  • @streeTkiDwannaBe no way dude, you gotta do it all over. i know it is very difficult but i assure you that it is very satisfiying when you do beat it

  • 2: 30 is so bad ass i love it!!

  • I need this game.

  • this is nes used at its full extent, and ya the storyline is a masterpiece, u dont find this in videogames anymore...

  • This is like watching an Epic Movie..

    but anyways, AWESOME GAME

  • I get the feeling that Jacquio is...french?

  • lol

  • It's a bad transliteration, or maybe they wanted it to sound Lovecraftian. In Japanese he's "Jaki Ou" which means demon king.

  • @ JankyToe

French-Spanish, his mother was from Versailles and the father was from Madrid.

  • This is much less frustrating than actually replaying the game. Nostalgia is tempting, but this game is absolutely PUNISHING at times.

  • 9:20

You just KNOW Ryu is secretly thinking "Wait... I have to walk the entire damn road back to civilisation.... PAST THOSE DAMN EAGLES?? AGAIN?!"

  • when i was younger i always knew this game was special, and the series would continue for a long time.

Why.... The story is awesome thats why, Great use of nes hardwear.

This and batman on nes. 2 cool games right there.

  • This was epic storytelling back in the NES era. There was no game that could even compete.

Plus the game was extremely fun and challenging. Can you imagine how pissed off players nowadays would be if you made them start at the beginning of the world after losing to the final boss?

  • lol starting at 4:53....he shoulda said "yoink" instead

  • Did you know this was the first game ever made to use cutscenes?

A classic that will never be forgotten. I used to shit bricks at its difficulty xD.

  • This was most definitely not the first game ever made to use cutscenes. Probably not even on the NES.

  • uno de los mas grande juegos para el nes, recuerdos de mi niñez, muy dificil de finalizar

one of greatest game for nes, remerber from my childhood, very hard to finish

  • Hmm so sad that I was only 10 years old when NES is popular, and don't have chance to play NG1 & 2 :( I played NG3 smoothly and even left the game running without playing to enjoy its background music... :(

    Thanks for the video!

  • Long time fan of the series right here. music is a little jumpy but its fine otherwise. A+, thank you very much.

  • Fantastic stuff, I remember being 10 years old and blown away by the graphics and storytelling. It was like I was taking part in a movie, not just a video game.

Really paved the way for more story-intense games like the Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid series.

  • Yup, great cutscenes. I even put up the very rare TG16 and Master System cutscenes a long time ago. I'm tempted to do a custscene video of NG 2 on Xbox 360 since I have it.

  • This should have been made into a movie, all 3 of them

The story on the NES games beat the ones on x-box and PS3

  • Its one of my favorite games of all time! The best of the series, and better than anything made within the last 10 years!

  • 5:14-610 FTW.

  • Yup, one of my fav tunes in the game.

  • 1:40 lol

  • the jaquio's face @ 11:31 use to give me nightmares when i was younger. i always had to turn my head before they showed it hahaha.

  • Good lord I thought i was the only one. I'm gonna be 30 soon and that face still haunts me when the lights go out.

  • With this video, I don't have to play the game for hours. This gives me that nostalgic feeling. Thanks for posting.

  • yup

  • i still have these games on the snes the trilogy, best music in a game lol, cant wait for sigma 2, part 2 on 360 was great so i'm sure the ps3 game will be better

  • IMHO the rearranged music on the SNES is subpar to the original NES one.

Ninja Gaiden I and Bionic Commando were my favorite games back then and Bionic Commando still dominates my top games list.

  • i disagree but we all have our likes and all. the nes soundtrack will always be better than the snes on games. ninja gaiden series, mario series etc.

  • the cutscene after level one scared me because it pops i my head whenever im alone in the dark ~_~

  • Wow, Nostalgia'd.

  • I love the music that starts at 2:58

  • Likewise. Most memorable tune for me when I first heard it as a kid. That one and the Masked Devil were my favs.

  • And me, too- I still listen to this refrain in my head sometimes.

  • Es lo maximo sin duda alguna, excelente, el mejor juego para nes.

  • 1:39 How could she hit ANYTHING with the gun down there?

AWESOME graphics for the NES, by the way.

  • Simple graphics like this make the story more interesting for some reason, and Jaquio is a wicked looking bastard. That son of a bitch gave me knightmares as a kid!

  • I think I remember these cinematic scenes really lent a feeling of a progressing adventure through the game and made me wonder what happens next

  • thanks brings back really good memories

  • Wow dude great feelings of nostalgia surface when i see this!keep up the great work!

  • thankx

  • Wow! The first game with Cinema Display's Scenes... I remember when I play it on 1989...What a Sucess!!! Great history, Excellent Music and a staff of very difficult Bosses and Many hours for to learn how to defeat them. Thanks for post it!!

  • Glad you liked it as many have.

  • Awesome music. Thanks for posting this.

  • I gotta say the Ninja Gaiden / Shadow Warriors games for the NES had the best stories.

  • For the frist one ryu sure was caught off guard alot. All ways saying what !? lol

  • WOW -- I remember 4:08 now... I thought Ninja Gaiden was a sequel to Shinobi- the old Sega Game I used to play... am I right? ir no relation?>?? sorry I forgot the background story... besides what we seen here...

  • this game was by far the most ridiculously difficult get-hit-here-and-fall-to-your-death game ever. I remember playing this game for days in a row until I was finally able to defeat the Third-last boss... and then Jaquoi comes in and smokes my ass... and I had to restart the entire previous level! WTF!

story and music are awesome... esspecially for a NES game :O

  • OMG... amazing, I remember when i was a child!!! thnks...

  • It's kind of strange how Ryu has short hair in the Classic series and in the newer series and Dead or Alive he has long hair. And how they changed "Ken Hayabusa" to "Joe Hayabusa." I guess maybe because of Street Fighter's Ken and Ryu. Not to mention that Joe has long hair and Ken has Short hair too.

  • The xbox games didn't follow the storyline of the originals. Ryu's father died in NG1 and yet he's alive in the xbox games... well the first one.

  • That's because the Xbox Ninja Gaiden games take place -before- the Original Ninja Gaiden series.

  • also the ryu in the nes doesent know where the eye of the dragon is and the xbox ryu does

  • so is it pronounced Guy-den or Gay-den?

  • It's pronounced "Guy den."

  • God I loved this game. This was so ahead of it's time. Music was good (crazy touch having the theme to Love Story at the end), game play great, and cut scenes were dynamite to see with such a cool story. 5:27 music has been in my head since I was a kid, never forgot it. It was also hell to beat (fuggin' birds man!). lol. Anyways, thanks for posting this! Did you do NG 2 and 3? Never got to play three but beat NG2.

  • lol epic... i saw this at a mall toy section..

  • The soundtrack was really great. It stands out as one of the best video game soundtrack ever. And it is a NES game.

  • Agreed, I still use some of the tracks as ringtones.

    This is an all-time classic.

  • "You will never get past me!"

    "then I must defeat you!"

"did you listen to a goddamn word I just said?"

    "uhh..."

  • rofl

  • wow, I forgot just how funky Irene wore her hair in the first one! 70's style!

  • at 4:11 it said something about shinobi appeared to stop the demon! did joe make an appearance in the game somewhere?

  • No. It's just the legend of the dragon sword passed down to other generations of Ninja.

  • The beats were so hot.

  • Creepy face at 11:30 AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Loved this game, the gameplay, music and cutscnese were way ahead of their time

  • I remember when i was kid an playing this like crazy!

  • That music wehre Ryu meets agent Foster is the bomb. Man, video games have come such a long way since I was kid, I'm so glad I never gave them up.

  • This was a fucking GAME. *schwi-schwi*

  • Oh god! how I miss this game, love the music especially level 4

  • Great posting! I can't believe the cutscenes alone is almost 20 minutes. Excellent story line. Too bad I was never skilled enough to flip this game.

  • Glad you like it.

  • Hardest game ever, but holy crap the story and music were way before their time.

    What a classic!

  • Yup and the new one is just as awsome. It is a difficulat game, but a masterpiece.

  • I was 14 when I first played this, and was too dumb to understand deep storylines like this. But when I look back, DAMN what excellent storytelling! And for a 20 year old game, that's saying alot. I agree with Gojiro7, that panoramic scene of Ryu watching the castle is breathtaking, as well as the multi-scrolling (!) scene of the plane dropping Ryu off. I never saw anything like that on the NES before.

  • Fucking Epic of a game. When I first saw the intro cinema, I was impressed, but I figured true to NES fashion, they make a fancy intro scene and that's it.

I beat level 1 and my jaw dropped. This game, is perfect.

  • hell yeah. when i was a kid, this game defined what I liked! and i look back and I see a true masterpiece.

  • Epic... just EPIC

  • 10:08 is one of the most epic scenes in gaming history, just seeing Ryu standing on top of a mountian with his sword tucked behind him and his badanda blowing in the wind, you just don't see classic cool like that these days.

  • Yup! You said it.

Images like that are forever imprinted in my brain, this is definitely one of the all time greats.

  • thank god i could never beat the demon at the end. now ,19 years later, i finally got to see the ending. now i can die happy. thank you.

  • Your welcome

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • Okay!
