You copied this video from another you tube posting. You don't know a homebuild helicopter from this certified Hughes 269A helicopter. I guess you are just out for views.
Hey, any videos of Hog trying to use dynamite? how about giving Hog and a monkey a locked suitcase (Hog's is full of beer and the monkey's is full of bananas) and then betting on which one opens theirs first?
For all you morons out there who are talking bad about my buddy HOG, it was not his fault he crashed! He had plenty of experience riding dirt bikes and yes, the occasional bull. He hung on like a champ when Newton's laws kicked in and stayed in that cockpit till the end. WAY TO GO, HOG! Last I heard he was going to try a spaceflight in a homebuilt rocket. My money is on HOG!
@samljer - I was joking. The dude obviously had zero experience flying helicopters, and I was just poking a little fun at him. Rednecks + Helicopters = Bad Idea.
hmm, seem to have a bit of trouble keeping things steady....ah, MORE altitude....hmm...things seem to be a little...ah, must need a bit more altitude.....well...crap it's still acting funny I guess I'll bring it down....oh piss, I don't know how to fly this thing.
I. Believe. In. Darwinism. Obviously, this guy managed to dodge Darwinism to further entertain pilots and youtuber's alike with more video of his renowned flying skills.. I've never thought of pulling maneuvers like that in my Jetranger, anyone else? I'll bet he learned a whole lot real fast in those ten seconds he was flying... Mainly that he is a retard. Also, maybe having someone in the helicopter that has a clue and can at least identify what "flight controls" are would be nice.
That is the Hughes/Schweizer 269/300. It is not a home built helicopter. You need to change the title because it was designed by Hughes Helicopters, formerly owned by Howard Hughes... and later bought by Schweizer.
I earned my Private Helicopter license in the Schweizer 300c and they are outstanding helicopters.
The cause of this crash was the guy was naive enough to think he could jump in a helicopter without a flight instructor. Helicopters are a LOT harder to fly than people think.
What kind of sanctions did this guy suffer as a result? It obviously should entail some punishment....Seems like FAA regs were violated. Maybe some of you more knowledgeable folks might enlighten me...Who gets punished for this? Why?
It's like a guy doing open heart surgery on himself in his basement, that is technically practicing medicine without a license but such egregious violations usually take care of themselves.
Instructor told him to go out and start it and wait for him. What kind of idiot flight instructor would tell a very low time student to start the helicopter without him in it?
granted he was a dumb shit for trying to fly with no training and yeah its funny he destroyed an 80000 dollar machine but it could have been much worse i guess. What I would have done in the situation is the same thing i did with my lil homebuilt. Tether the dang thing to the ground until you have a perfect liftoff feel then maybe try hovering untethered but not 20-30 ft in the air. Helis are temperamental to say the least. I just hope the guys ok even if he is a dumb shit
supposedly the story is this guy went and bought a helicopter, hadn't received any training, and then tried to fly it. As we see here he fails miserably!
The registration for this Hughes 269B is N101DN. The official FAA accident report is search-able on the FAA website via registration number.
Official cause shown as-- 1. poor judgment 2. disregarding written/verbal instructions. I'm sure the FAA investigator looked for the "Dumb-shit" box on the report form, but found none.
I had a conversation with a canadian military pilot in the cockpit of his Griffon (version of an american Huey) at a base during a cadet open house and asked him about the training to fly a helicopter. He said i was like learning to ride a unicycle and juggle a the same time. In other words,, helicopters aren't easy to fly. Even worse if you've never been taught. Hence this experiment!
The guy yelling after the crash should have told Hogg to get away from it before Hogg jumped in and tried to fly it. WTF was this guy thinking? I read that he was waiting for his instructor but became impatient.
The first time I tried to fly, my best time was 3 seconds before the instructor had to take control. Thought he could just wing it huh... On any major endeavor, do a little homework first. Like starting a business, buying a car, and flying a helicopter. Remember, the more you know, the less you die.
Has he been checked out on this thing? I don't think so...... Laugh my ass off. Way to go Hog! I'd love to see more of these video's keep it up, 269's are cheap now only 80k to buy and 30 seconds to destroy.
It's (was) a Hughes 269B model. Nothing wrong with the helicopter. The guy bought the helicopter and didn't have a minute of dual instruction in it. The owner (Hog) told the instructor that he thought he'd start it up and hover around a little. The instructor told him to keep out of it and that he was on his way over. Good thing someone had a video camera.
It looks like it could be the kitbuilt safari helicopters baby belle. And to that dumass "pilot" what were you to busy to get checked out in it, and by the way that post crash mri scan that revealed brain damage............that was there before you crashed.
The main blade has alot of torque so you need a small tail blade to counter it. You ever held a powerful drill and have it twist out of your hands? Kinda the same thing.
This man probably dident know enough about the controls of a helicopter or was not cordinated enough to balance it so it spun-out and smashed the tail rotor.
Hughes269B (not homebuilt) April 26, 1987 N101DN Pilot was 58yo Cline Hogg. He saved money for over 20 years to buy this helo. The instructor was late getting there, and he couldn't resist and couldn't wait any longer. He started it, ran it up and raised the collective without releasing the cyclic friction.
Cline Hogg continued to reside in Fontana until 2002 with his wife, Zee. He passed away in Geneva, Ohio, on November 19th, 2006.
-from the check-six website. Google "Hogg and N101DN"
As my instructor said so many years ago: "Imagine we're hanging from a 200 foot long line. When you move cyclic forward, the line is now tied in front of you, so you neutralize the cyclic and swing forward. To stop forward motion, you move the cyclic back and neutralize again." Obviously, the guy was trying to fly the chopper like an airplane instead. All he had to do was take one hour of instruction and probably have prevented this crackup.
ok lets seeee a little collective now for some right pedal now watch the cyclic... oppps a little more collective ...now some gyroscopic precession more collective more collective more left pedal more ......less aw fuck.....rotflmmfao it takes ALOT of training to master helicopter flight you dumbass....WOW
The N# is N101DN. It's a Hughes 269 (TH-55 Osage). The airframe is no longer in service obviously after this. It was sold in Oklahoma, probably for scrape and parts.
gee whiz, why so angry? there is (or at least used to be) a kit built replica of this helicopter. Not saying this is it, but could be. look in some older (91-96) kitplanes and you'll see advertisements for it.
The fucktard who posted this needs to do a little research next time. Anyone who thinks this is a homebuilt needs to be shot in the face. And I hope it happens.
I seen this guy on tv it was crazy the trainer was late to teach him to fly so the owner thought he'd take it up on his own and well thats what happens with no experience. I think the trainer swore to never ever teach this guy to fly after this happend
What a dumbass. As an actual helicopter pilot, let me just say that that is exactly what will happen to pretty much anyone with no time in a helicopter if they tried to solo with no training. Most people take around 10-15 hours of training in the air before they can even hover.
The guy in the back ground just kills me!!! He just watched a helicopter crash and he asks Jim, Whats Going on!!! Jim also stated, he just bought the helicopter and had no time in it when goofy asks again, Is he even check out in that thing!!! Talk about rednecks, THERES YOU'R SIGN ! ! ! ! Twice L.M.A.O. Glad to see he survived the crash , Cant waite to read the NTSB report!!!
That was scary!! What a close call! I am amazed he walked away from that one. I looks like a piece of the rotor was projected into a twin engine aircraft. This is an expensive accident no doubt.
This is a Hughes 269B because it has a single starboard fuel tank and no console. It is probably a mid 60s vintage helicopter.
If he's not trained he wouldn't have known to release the friction locks on the controls. There are 3 of them. The throttle rolls in the opposite direction as a motorcycle and there is no governor.
I have flown this model and consider it the best of the 269's.
300C. everytime i watch this i crack up a little. i mean helicopters dont fly themselves-no experience, shit unbelievable. that dude needed some serious left pedal, and once that TR struck it was all over lol
hard? depends on competency and skill with aviation. If you have not studied rotor or fixed week, takes some months to learn it first. Cost depends on what is used. Some $100-$300 per hour. Private fixed is 40, rotor I think is 40. Jetranger or better, eek....
$20k will get the average person a private helicopter license. to me the private is pointless unless you're rich. helis are expensive. $50-70grand will get you a commercial pilot license. it's really difficult for the first couple hours of flight time. after that the difficult part is the book stuff, atc, procedures etc.
Where the hell are you two buying time at? b101aa2 is talking less then what it costs for a cessna 152....edcondog is talking the cost of getting a commercial, IFR, ATP and hell...down payment on a 500E! Come to me...$13,000 for a private in a 300CB, maintenance done by licensed helicopter professionals.
20 is the AVERAGE for a private license. the 50-70 is the whole shebang. intermenstrual training, commercial, cfii. faa minimums puts it around 10k and 40k for those but the flight schools like to make money. and if you go to silver state 50k gets you nothing.
Well shoot...I guess I got lucky here. Only one helicopter company in town I'm glad they're not price galging (spelling?)...By the way, silverstate emploded. Too big too fast...Fox News reported two days ago they went bankrupt.
It's all in the accident report. No flight training and he didn't take the friction locks off of the flight controls before he lifted off. He is one lucky SOB to have walked away.
wonderful example of having a lot of money and not a whole lot of brains or did some guy smoke a nice doobie & see the keys in the ignition. also could have been an amature helicopter theif...i've already had 4 of my helis stolen this week.
It should be noted that this is NOT a "homebuilt" copter. Schweizer is a subsidiary of MD helicopters and although a simple looking machine, no helicopter, homebuilt or otherwise is inexpensive. This particular helicopter (used) would cost $200,000 plus. What's most painful about this video is that if he'd just taken about 8 to 15 hours of lessons, he'd of been able to respect and appreciate the flight concepts enough to understand just how stupid his decision really was...
Yup, that's a Hughes/Schweizer 'copter, and 'Hog' mangled it in a minute! Lucky to survive, too. Kudos to the cameraman for courage, I'd have run like hare.
They say that airplanes want to fly, and helos want to kill you. This is good illustration of what happens without extensive training.
Just think of the feeling he had the moment it got away from him... so excited about his new craft that he just couldn't wait. Like a spoiled 16 year old getting a Corvette for their birthday. Similar results often occur. Guess he learned a very expensive lesson that no amount of time in fixed wing aircraft prepares you to jump into a helicopter. This could have been much worse WRT property damage and loss of life.
its kwown as a schweizer 300 nowadays. helicopters about this size are also pretty expensive. $70,000 is no where near enough probably even for a used one. a brand new r-22 (just about the same size) is about $220,000.
The pilot for not actually being a pilot. He could have killed himself.
The other is the camera man, for not running for his life. The so called 'pilot' could have skewered him easily. Those things are not cheep too, that one being in the $70,000 range.
Ah, another YT "expert" posting videos on stuff he (or she) knows nothing about.

That's what you get for flying a helicopter unprofessionally.
You should take a flying test first...or don't fly at all...dumb ass!!!

My teacher once said almost 1/4 of deaths caused were from "HEY GUYS WATCH THIS" LOL dumbass

"Ya'all watch this..." Best to read the instructions first...
countachpilot 4 years ago
That was scary!! What a close call! I am amazed he walked away from that one. I looks like a piece of the rotor was projected into a twin engine aircraft. This is an expensive accident no doubt.
Howrualldoing 4 years ago
yah, i love that comment" whats going on Jim??" -----like, was someone not home while the heli flew it self into the ground? duhhhh, hellooooo...
justimaginenow 4 years ago
This is a Hughes 269B because it has a single starboard fuel tank and no console. It is probably a mid 60s vintage helicopter.
If he's not trained he wouldn't have known to release the friction locks on the controls. There are 3 of them. The throttle rolls in the opposite direction as a motorcycle and there is no governor.
I have flown this model and consider it the best of the 269's.

300C. everytime i watch this i crack up a little. i mean helicopters dont fly themselves-no experience, shit unbelievable. that dude needed some serious left pedal, and once that TR struck it was all over lol

I take it you fly? How hard is it and what sort opf cost is invloved in getting a licience? etc...
deanjfk 4 years ago
hard? depends on competency and skill with aviation. If you have not studied rotor or fixed week, takes some months to learn it first. Cost depends on what is used. Some $100-$300 per hour. Private fixed is 40, rotor I think is 40. Jetranger or better, eek....
b101aa2 4 years ago
$20k will get the average person a private helicopter license. to me the private is pointless unless you're rich. helis are expensive. $50-70grand will get you a commercial pilot license. it's really difficult for the first couple hours of flight time. after that the difficult part is the book stuff, atc, procedures etc.
edcoondog 4 years ago
Where the hell are you two buying time at? b101aa2 is talking less then what it costs for a cessna 152....edcondog is talking the cost of getting a commercial, IFR, ATP and hell...down payment on a 500E! Come to me...$13,000 for a private in a 300CB, maintenance done by licensed helicopter professionals.
JoshMichael 4 years ago
20 is the AVERAGE for a private license. the 50-70 is the whole shebang. intermenstrual training, commercial, cfii. faa minimums puts it around 10k and 40k for those but the flight schools like to make money. and if you go to silver state 50k gets you nothing.
edcoondog 4 years ago
Well shoot...I guess I got lucky here. Only one helicopter company in town I'm glad they're not price galging (spelling?)...By the way, silverstate emploded. Too big too fast...Fox News reported two days ago they went bankrupt.
JoshMichael 4 years ago
INTERMENSTRUAL TRAINING????
for the period between periods.
WTF dude.
Smartathanyou 3 years ago 3
It's all in the accident report. No flight training and he didn't take the friction locks off of the flight controls before he lifted off. He is one lucky SOB to have walked away.

LMAO, fucking idiot. That's what happens when you don't know how to fly a helicopter...
AgentN1983 4 years ago
wonderful example of having a lot of money and not a whole lot of brains or did some guy smoke a nice doobie & see the keys in the ignition. also could have been an amature helicopter theif...i've already had 4 of my helis stolen this week.
Stompist 4 years ago
seriously? seems like it'd be dificult to get away with stealing an aircraft

Yeah right....sure you have
unapro3 4 years ago

BRAGrotor 4 years ago
Just think of the feeling he had the moment it got away from him... so excited about his new craft that he just couldn't wait. Like a spoiled 16 year old getting a Corvette for their birthday. Similar results often occur. Guess he learned a very expensive lesson that no amount of time in fixed wing aircraft prepares you to jump into a helicopter. This could have been much worse WRT property damage and loss of life.
bodybager 4 years ago
its kwown as a schweizer 300 nowadays. helicopters about this size are also pretty expensive. $70,000 is no where near enough probably even for a used one. a brand new r-22 (just about the same size) is about $220,000.

someone needs to learn how to fly, it could have been much worse.
bassjunki69 4 years ago
There are two idiots in this video.
The pilot for not actually being a pilot. He could have killed himself.
The other is the camera man, for not running for his life. The so called 'pilot' could have skewered him easily. Those things are not cheep too, that one being in the $70,000 range.

A tribute to Hughes 300 fuel tanks. Look under "WHAT WAS HE THINKING" and see same video

If you actually LISTEN, you'll hear on the vid that he's not a pilot, he's bought it and was going to learn to fly it.
He won't learn to fly the darn thing now will he!!!

The 300 is a pretty dosile aircraft. She responds alot quicker than a 47, though. This guy was too heavy handed it looks like.

Way to destroy a beautiful helicopter! Was this guy really a helicopter pilot?
