i'm from canada and half italian and i'm very proud of it, I use to hear the stories from my one grandpa and his life in northern italy before he came here to canada with his parents. It wasn't easy since it was world war 1 but somehow he survived and made it here. so i give a thumbs up to your project :)
the fisrt Italian Americans were from Argentina, Argies are the most important concentration of that diasporas, just hearing how they talk everybody know it
Brazil is home to 25 million Italian Brazilians, the largest number of people with full or partial Italian ancestry outside of Italy. Brazil 25 million Argentina 20 million United States 17.8 million
Brazil is home to 25 million Italian Brazilians, the largest number of people with full or partial Italian ancestry outside of Italy. Brazil 25 million Argentina 20 million United States 17.8 million
Americans treated very unfairly to Italian inmigrants. Even worse than to africans. I remember that in a documentary was said that italian workers earned less than africans.
Argentina is the 2nd Italy. Australia would have to be the 3rd Italy. There are more Calabrians and Sicilians here than you can poke a stick at. Italian immigrants built Australia, more than any other immigrant minority. Rightly so, as they are the wealthiest of immgrants in regards to possession of assets and businesses. Google: lygon street Melbourne, Australia. Welcome to Little Italy.
The Italian constitution guarantees the right of its citizens to find work, even if it means emigrating. As a result, Italians immigrated to other places in mass numbers, notably North and South America. However, the irony lies in the fact that, today, there is a sense of discrimination and racism against immigrants in Italy. To me, the presence of xenophobia in Italy is interesting, especially when one considers that Italians were once immigrants themselves.
It's not xenofobia!! In Italy every year thousands of immigrant arrived in large numbers!! The all want to work, and it's a reasonable request...but in a nation with lots of trouble, as the unemployment, it's unthinkable to satisfy them all!! this caused resentment in italian people who have to compete not only with other italian but also with immigrants!! it's true that sometimes immigrants perform humble works
All these people come from the South of Italy...The reason was the the politic that was done from the young Italian state...So sad...But some part of our south is all over the world now
Yes, and so many towns in the south of Italy are abandoned now because all of their inhabitants have left Italy. It's a sad situation, but I don't think anyone can fault the landless classes for seeking their fortunes elsewhere after the Risorgimiento taxes, the phylloxera vine disease, etc.
italians in italy always treated me very nicely when i spoke to them in italian. they would always ask "where is your family from" and things like that. I think italians get disappointed with italian americans because so many of us dont speak the language and therefore are not retaining one of the biggest pieces of the culture of italy. just my opinion, i could be wrong.
