  • Wonderful!!

  • I prefer it when people actually paint in photoshop, i.e don't import images or use effects and only use the brush tool and creat the image from scratch, this seems a little like cheating. Still its a nice image.

  • @Gaskinmoo See some of my other videos. :)

  • @Gaskinmoo

Well, regardless of your preference this is how it's done in the industry as well. The goal is create the highest quality image as quickly as possible and photo-realistic through any means. To call an artist cheating for using the tools designed for his trade is insulting and nonconstructive. Excellent work, I love the mood. Like and early morning after a thunderstorm, just before dawn.

  • @Gaskinmoo bnn.. no ves que es un matte painting.... de eso se trata el matte painting....

  • well what do you say? fantastic really! im more of a ''classical' or ''old school'' painter with a brush (real one) but have a great respect for work such as this and finding it very fascinating since the lord of the rings books i have. i love how in this vid out of all of them all that hard work in the first 2 vids really paid off. personally i find what you done with the scene was very creative and atmospheric, the lights where perfect and added to the feel with out over doing it. well done :)

  • i find it very interesting, although i thought it was a paint only tut. nice idea, i might try this collage stuff soon

  • wow.! the artwork is so smooth.,

I really love it.! Great tutorial buddy ^^..

just wanna ask 1 thing.. are u using a tablet pencil in this painting??

Thanks. great video ^^ hope to have more.!

  • thanks men!!! good tutorial!!!

  • oo nice !! love the vid the tutorial was going too fast for me tbh :P but .. i love the work.

  • @gangstermafia Thank you! There is a realtime version of this tutorial on my channel which should be much easier to follow. :)

  • Amazing video for beginner like me :)

  • maaan I m shocked I I...I m getting crazy......wow great bro great I dont have any words now.....fabulous, out standing, mind blowing...

  • ok so beside the color over some cropped images what u got? i was expecting to see some really changed buildings or at least u could have removed the water and add some old road right in the middle.. very lame

  • It wouldn't make much sense doing something that complicated for a beginner tutorial.

  • this tutorial is excelent, thanks for posting it

  • Awesome combos man ... n1ce very N1CE .

  • thanks a lot for this tutorial!

  • all you did was recolor an image with an overlay layer. I am unimpressed

  • You have amazing observation skills.

  • You are awesome. I accidentally rated your video as 2, but this is definetly a 5!

  • Hey! Really nice image, and great website, my question is.. around the 5 minute marks of this video you do a couple of things to make the image blurry, i've tried to achieve that atrsy artistic blurring but i haven't managed, what process did you go through to create it here?

    Thanks in advanced!

  • Thanks for the kind comments.

That blur effect is just a basic Gaussian blur. But I first flattened all my layers into one, duplicated it, lowered the layer opacity and then applied the gaussian blur so it's basically a blurry and ghostly copy of the image beneath.

Btw, if you don't want to flatten your image, just select all your layers and use the "copy merged" and paste command to get a duplicate of the full image. Hope this helps!

  • Ahh thanks you! And thank you for the speedy reply! All the best :)

  • @wadehjb Sorry for the.. ermm.. 10 month late reply :P

Thanks a lot! I know apply that same technique to a lot of my images. Your tutorials have inspired me, thank you :)

  • Excelent work

  • When you sample the colors from the original photo what blending mode are you painting back in? Color blending mode?

  • Sorry I missed your question. Yes, I'm painting in color mode, although sometimes you can get good results painting in hue or soft light mode.

  • I would like to say, fantastic job on this piece! Very inspiring. Where do you prefer to find stock for the destroyed building and such? Or anything specific?

  • There's a free site called stockxchng that has some really great stock photos. But you can also find some very good photos on Deviantart.

  • The only way I can describe this is WOW.

Visited your site. Love your tutorials. Thanks

    5*

  • reminds me of.. is it shane peirce? the dude that did the art for gears of war.. well it reminds me of that guy

a map called "Canals" from the "Gears of War" game

    great work.

  • Thank you for this high compliment, but still a long way off that guy! :)

  • ......."clap clap clap" this is da shit maan...you are so talentet the resualt isn't able to describe with words

  • WoW

    great tutorial..thanx

  • As for the music, it is composed by demoscene artists so the tracks are free to download. Try searching Xerxes, Willbe, Siatek and Virgill on bitfellas (dotorg). Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

  • masterpiece.

please, man, could you tell me who are the music artists in your videos?

  • ok good job! very much like the simplicity of your work. very well done!

  • Unbelievable!! You've turned beautiful Venice into the stuff of nightmares! So creepy. I just wish I could read exactly what you were doing, step by step. I think I get that you're putting each colour on a seperate layer, changing the blending options and then using a mask to pick that colour out only where you want it. I have no idea how you created the lights...I guess it's up to me to play around until it clicks.

  • Thank you! I try to keep things quite simple by using the eraser to rub through my layers instead of masks, but if you check under the videos section of my website I have tried to explain everything I'm doing here. Hope it helps.

  • love it!!! Thank you for sharin. your tutorals and dvd are amazin!!
