I watched the Kennedys mini series recently and started looking into the family....Robert Kennedy was a truly inspirational person...i wonder how different the world would have been had he survived...he was years ahead of his time and fought for justice- something which still isn't in the world today...
@MeghanRileyNeedham You think the Kennedys were such “wastes of human life”? President Kennedy was putting together the Civil Rights Act at the time he was assassinated, he was talking peace with the Soviets because he wanted to end the Cold War. He signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. At the time of his death, he’d signed a National Security Action Memorandum that called for all US troops to be out of Vietnam by the spring of '65. There never would've been a war. Also, the Space Program, etc.
@MeghanRileyNeedham Bobby Kennedy rode Lying Lyndon’s ass until he passed the Civil Rights Act. He was an outspoken advocate for civil rights, denounced the conditions on the Indian reservations, the exploitation of farm workers. He forced the American people to face the issue of poverty. When MLK was shot, Bobby had the guts to stand before that crowd in Indianapolis and give that impromptu speech. Cities across the country were burning, but thanks to Bobby there were no riots in Indianapolis.
@MeghanRileyNeedham Ted Kennedy supported equal rights for women, civil rights for minorities, he denounced homophobia. He supported the Irish Peace Process and was the one who encouraged Bill Clinton to allow Sinn Fein Leader Gerry Adams to come here. As a result, the IRA called a cease fire and now Protestants and Catholics are sharing power. And when George W. Bush lied and dragged this country into war with Iraq, Ted had the courage to denounce his actions, and voted against that invasion.
@MeghanRileyNeedham As for republicans like "your man" McCain, Nixon, Regan and the Bushies, you know what their legacy is? Thousands of US troops dead in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Coups around the world in places like Chile where Salvador Allende was overthrown and assassinated. Gen. Augusto Pinochet seized power and had thousands tortured and murdered. During the 80's the US funded the war in El Salvador. By the time Poppy Bush was booted out of office over 63,000 Salvadorans were dead.
@MeghanRileyNeedham You want to talk about a “waste of human life”? Millions of people all over the world DEAD thanks to wars and coups green lighted or directly ordered by scumbags like Nixon, Reagan and the Bushies. If you think republicans like McCain are so great then you need a better education. Because, when you try and talk about a subject which you obviously know nothing about, including referring to the Kennedys as “a waste of human life” – You only make a fool out of yourself.
He talked of peace, integrity, and the hope of a better life for all people. Surely we can find the common ground that he saw, and become a kindness within ourselves, we must believe in each other to heal this country of ours.
This song makes me think of how much Jack was in him, around him, surrounding him, and never far away from his mind. I do not think another man in the 20th century ever suffered as much deep anguish and pain as did RFK.
Jack would have been proud to see his little brother grow to become his own man of action and purpose.
such a waste, he and his brothers were good men who only wanted to serve their country. they were killed out of cold blood because a small amount of people didn't like the way they were doing it.
That last quote about not being afraid to confront the truth is like RFK speaking to us from the grave. Our leaders have lied to us repeatedly, and their dirty secrets continue to be handed down in generations and not dealt with. We are doomed as a nation, no matter that Obama is President or not, if we don't confront the sins of the past and root out and expose evil everywhere it hides in this nation.
Yes ,those who shut up about what is right are dumb devils, dont do good deeds as others do it and dont do bad deeds as others did it but do good deeds even if others did bad dees as prophet said(puh).
each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples can build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance!
