I know this hardware is old, but I heard this is the best card for AGP systems. Could you tell me what the power supply requirements for that card is? TIA!
You can't buy it anymore and there are better cards available for AGP. Who ever told you this was the best available for AGP is behind the times by about 6 years...
ahh the wonderful 9800pro.. my 4 year old son has this in his HTPC and uses it to play his mkv 720p vids as well as n64 and gamecube emulators in high def on a single core athlon cpu :D
only down side i found is when connected to a sony hdtv the 1080i is terrible and super flashy even out of the dvi connection, upgraded right away to the next level up and what a difference going from 9800 pro to nvidia 7600 on that tv.
but for functionality and connectivity this card ruled in its day
Which one is better? The 512 MB Nvidia® GeForce G310 or this ATI radeon 9800 pro. I know the 512 MB Nvidia® GeForce G310 is quite standard, but ati radeon is much older if im right.
This card was king for a long time during the early to mid MM's. I always wanted one, but could not get myself to spend $200+ that it cost back then, having settled instead for an nvidia 6600gt, which was not as impressive. I actually remember the day the 9800 got pulled from the shelf from Fry's that was around 2006. A very long run, considering video cards usually go obsolete in 1 to 2 years.
Ehh, at times. My 6200 was overclocked and had all 8 pipes unlocked on it, so it was at about 6600GT level. Plus it has shader model 3, which I don't think this card has...
The 6200 got me playable framerates on STALKER on medium for 6 months before the whole computer went out, it was a great little card...
@geeknproud2110 yea but in aplications that require Pixel Shader 3 they are raping ati.i had both 9800 and 6600gt and in new games the 6600gt is better.
@munteanuioan Yeah but both are so ridiculously outdated now they are no longer relevant to PC gaming. The 9800XT was as fast as a 6600GT easily and the 9800Pro wasn't far off.
@geeknproud2110 yeah but its not about the speed .its about memory and technologyes if u have 128DDR and pixel shader 2 you will get ass raped by a 256DDR2 or GDDR3 and pixel shader 4.sped isnt everything.a 5900ultra or a x800 were like 30 gb/s but they cant run any new games cuz they dont know how to interpret the graphic engineand ull get an error at the start.
Oh, you are right. I thought there was less of a break between the 9 series and the 8 series, so I was thinking 5 series at 2004, 6 at 2005-06, and then 8 series in 2007 and 9 series at 08.
I was right though, this card was aging in 2006. In 2006 most of the requirements for games put this at the low end of the spectrum, and this card is even still usable for some games today, but it's a long lifespan for a GFX card.
this card is actually god ,I bought it at 2006 the graphics are nice ,but 1 of the 8 processors burned so fuck this card!! The Geforce 260GTx is my baby now:)))
9800 Pro then was the beast of the card, i remeber playing with the card Battlefield Vietnam. Still plays great games on my P4 1.6ghz, 1GIG RDRAM 800mhz, 160GIG IDE Harddrive.
The memory of graphics cards only comes into consideration at higher resolutions. You may only notice a 1-2 fps difference at say a res. of 1024x768, but there will be a huge difference at a res. like 1440x900.
that was my old card...fuck shit always fucked up in games etc.Have now X1950Pro , going to bye me a geforce 8800 GTX but dont have the money yet .But i miss the smartshaders they were really nice.Under my card i cants find them.Catalyst Controler doesnt show me the f*ckin smartshaders.
I loved this card. IF only They'd make this again... but more powerful, and PCI-E :(

Erm at the mo I've got a Sapphire Radeon 3850. Previous to that I had Sapphire's 2600XT.
The 3850 plays COD4 BF2142 on highest on my 19" widescreen. The 2600XT was actually rather poor for the price.
