I love AFI and everything they've done, but the I Heard A Voice DVD is too edited. They really should've just left it as it is. In Girl's Not Grey they show Jade playing where there's no guitar (or maybe I have that backwards).
Isn't it sad that before you can criticize AFI you have to have a disclaimer that you like them? It's okay to say "I didn't like that" so long as you have a real case and aren't just trolling.

Ive heard the Whole or the Art of Drowning, Sing the Sorrow, and December Underground. I have to say Sing the Sorrow is their best album. Havent heard the earlier stuff but sing the sorrow is hard to beat.

I do think Jade is a decent guitarist; he just plays pop and punkish riffs because of their genre, which doesn't make for very complex stuff. Hunter and Adam don't play insane shit either, but they are (or at least were, lol) good song writers, which is the most important quality.
@Winnsock Have you heard anything from Jade's early days? Having guitar work that is "all that special" isn't just about shredding, it's also about creativity. Coming from someone who's been playing for over 10 years this guy is one of the most inventive I've ever heard.

It's because he changed vocal techniques and started using a metalcore scream to save his voice. Unfortunately, this style of screaming lacks emotion and sounds forced. But yeah, I feel ya. I caught one of the last shows before his voice pooped out. All of that yelling hurt his throat, so that's why it changed. Happens to lots of other singers too.

AFI is the only band i listen too thats not Melodic Death Metal, but damn Davey's screams are SO distorted. I bet a lot of death metal vocalist would have trouble getting it to that intensity.
he hurt his voice a few years ago... it's most likly not his fault if he can't always vocalize like he used to 100% of the time. I think he sings great live... even the screams, it was possible he was tired during this song or this was later in the concert. Screaming is a lot of strain on the vocal chords, no matter how you do it.
