What with the Kenny G hate. He wanted to use What A Wonderful World and who sing it better than Louis Armstrong, so he create a version combing both his sax playing and the original song. This will bring it to a wider audience, as younger people may not know about Louis Armstrong. It helps people get to know what a great song it is.
As a Pat Metheny Puritan awoke one bizarro morning from troubled, metamorphic dreams, He found himself transformed in his bed into the monstrous, evil incarnate KENNY G, screaming, ''Must eat Satcho's Brain'',
Jazz is in an unique position in the cosmic scheme of things because it is the apex of galactic intelligence,,,, If the Evil Incarnate KENNY G is allowed to produce more of ''The Dumbest Music there ever could possible be'' It will destroy Jazz and we will have done a grave injustice to the universe
For all of you who cannot appreciate beautiful music, regardless of the artist(s), take your filthy comments elsewhere. Using that language shows your mentality.
Kenny G was an early adopter of the current technique of ripping off creative artists with digital technology. Think of all the absolute crap on youtube and pop radio and how derivative it is. Musicians have always covered each other's songs and even copied parts of songs but now people think the greatest key strokes in music are CTRL-C, CTRL-V. This is where internet culture is taking us - reams of unoriginal, shallow garbage that drowns out the truly creative works through sheer volume.
Blimey! I suspected this might not work, but this is staggeringly awful! Nothing less than a crime against music. Kenny G, hang your head in shame. This musical atrocity is unforgivable.
@burd1234 "Quality music with a a great man like Louis Armstrong why all the hate." This music is not WITH Louis Armstrong. That's exactly the reason for the hate. It's over top of Armstrong. And ripping him off. Unfortunately the youtube generation thinks this kind of mashup crap is legitimate creative expression. It's thievery, plain and simple.
I don't think this would have been as ribbed as it is if he hadn't used the original track and then put Louis as the featured artist. Like, just do a normal cover. Your own instruments, singers if you want, you could even change the chords up a little bit if you wanted. But c'mon dude. This is just lazy.
Some people obviously do not realize that satchmos estate gave permission for this, and they knew kenny g's abilities,,,,, some people act like they have a mission or calling to silence Kenny G, like some people have against world hunger, racial injustice etc lol,,, the worst necrophilia was MLK jr' s, estate giving permission to use him for the ad for alcatel, and no, i do not like kenny but he sounded decent with Jeff Lorber
garth got it right on wayne's world: kenny g = tooth extraction. And now he throws in the corpse of one of the greatest jazzers and ass-fucks it with his screechy, out-of-tune, uber-mediocre riffs.
Codex Alimentarius is a part of the 2nd phase of the Jesuit plan to bring the whole world under the subjection of the Papacy and to restart persecution. Kenny is a fuck stick who wouldn't know the meaning of jazz if it meant saving his life. His base, high fructose corn syrup, lame playing lends no credence to jazz or the great jazz sax players alive and that preceded him. Let him stick to to that musical style 'smooth jazz', a nice, homogenous blend pop based crap. It's right up his alley and where he belongs, rather than presuming he has the talent to overdub himself over one of the greatest jazz player who ever lived. Metheny was right.

I can't help but feel that there is a whole lot of hate going on in these comment for a song about how beautiful the world is and how wonderful the human race is capable of being. I find this sad. I don't know this Kenny G fellow at all, but he is obviously talented at what he does. Even if he weren't, I believe that Lewis Armstrong would have been delighted to have had even a child singing this alongside him on stage. Be kind or be quiet people. Peace.
@thepakibye Gotcha ^_^, I live a bit of a sheltered, not very social existence, so it is common for me not to know stuff like this that may be common knowledge for others. Thanks for filling me in. Peace be with you ^_^
@Werewoofy Louis Armstrong would definitely have been delighted to have a child sing with him on stage. Hew would NOT be delighted to have some psuedo-jazz saxophonist noodling around on his compositions years after his death. What Kenny G did to this is disrespectful, and just sort of weird.
@hebrewhammershabbat I'm afraid that I don't see what is so disrespectful about it. If anything, I would say that this would be a great homage to him. Saying that this is disrespectful would be like saying that preforming one of Shakespear's plays years after his and all the original actor's deaths is disrespectful. People don't do things like this to disrespect a man or woman; they do it to keep it alive in our hearts and to feel like they are a part of something greater.
@Werewoofy If he performed an original arrangement of this piece, that would be analogous to performing one of shakespeare's plays. However, he overdubbed himself playing over Louis' original recording. I'm not even sure how that's legal, much less respectful. What's worse, is that what he plays is a slap into face to everything Louis worked for, which was bringing jazz into the mainstream, and influencing jazz musicians for years to come. Kenny G plays psuedo-jazz. Louis would NOT be proud.
@hebrewhammershabbat but THOSE are the videos that DESERVE your hatred because they truly DO fly in the face of everything Lewis was trying to accomplish with this song. However, this is simply my opinion.
@hebrewhammershabbat for simply wishing to know what it feels like to play alongside a long gone idol, I would instead recommend focusing your efforts on some of these youtube videos that use Lewis Armstrong's ORIGINAL track whilst flashing images of war, violence, suffering, and other man-made negatives in the world. Now, I'm not one to pretend to know what a long gone artist would or would not approve of,
@hebrewhammershabbat I admit I don't really know what psuedo-jazz is, but I'm not the most knowledgeable person about such things; the one you need is likely my sister. She is the music buff in the family. However, the only way something like this would be illegal is if he made money off of it. Simply posting this on youtube hardly constitutes a crime. I guess what I'm saying is; if you're going to waste energy getting angry at a talented musician, which you can't deny that this Kenny is,
@Werewoofy Psuedo means false or fake. And I really don't think he's that talented. He just knows the base dreck that a lot of the public likes. I'm angry because he had the audacity to destroy one of the most influential musicians pieces with his lame mainstream playing. I think the reason myself and many other jazz musicians/listeners have such contempt for Kenny G, is that a lot of the public thinks what he plays is jazz, when its anything but. Look of Pat Metheny's review of this.
@hebrewhammershabbat Just for the record, I did know what psuedo meant; I just didn't know what the difference was between fake jazz and real jazz. As I stated before, I don't really have much of an ear for this sort of stuff and can't really pick out the differences like a practiced ear such as your's or my sister's could; I just know what I like. I'm very glad that we understand each-other now though; I feel that I can now sympathize with those who are angry at this better. Thank you ^_^
@hebrewhammershabbat Fair enough; I suppose I can understand that. You are angry because you feel that this is a defilement of the jazz style that Lewis popularized, where as I reserve my anger for those that defile the MEANING of the song. This is an interesting clash of opinions; I kind of like the comparison. You are obviously a musically minded person, where as I am a writer and tend to focus on the words and poetry of the song. Interesting.
Wow I can't believe all the negative comments. I think this is beautiful and is a wonderful tribute to Louie. Oh well people will disagree all the time huh?
ok son, first get yo' drum track outta there, then get yo' sax outta the way while Louie's singing, then get yo' non-improvised, pop-style solo outta there and replace it with a solo that actually uses jazz techniques, like scales that are more complex than the wimpy little pentatonic scales featured here that I've known how to play since I was ten, then stop being cocky enough to think that yo' lame skills can share the stage with the most influential musician in jazz history. Good day sir.
@wmlmw If you knew how to play them since ten I would really like you to make it into the big business of music and actually be successful. Good day, sir.
@DaMysteereusMon Any decent jazz musician has known how to play pentatonic scales since they were ten. Most don't make it into the big music industry because they play real music that doesn't sell like this dreck Kenny G produces. All Kenny does is pander to the ignorant public instead of making real music.
But when Kenny G decided that it was appropriate for him to defile the music of the man who is probably the greatest jazz musician that has ever lived by spewing his lame-ass, jive, pseudo bluesy, out-of-tune, noodling, wimped out, fucked up playing all over one of the great Louis's tracks (even one of his lesser ones), he did something that I would not have imagined possible.
Kenny G feat Louis Armstrong? Are you fucking kidding me? The only thing Kenny G did was record himself diddling around over what was previously a classic Louis Armstrong tune.
So much money to be made easily by adding a low quality overdub over a high quality song. This is great! I think I'll e-mail Justin Bieber and tell him to overdub his voice over Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven.
You know there are going to be so many re made songs you can't just go and shit on one that doesn't sound exactly like the original. Yeah the originals are always going to be the best but it's nice once in awhile to hear a different variation or twist on the original. And I'm sure whoever posted this didn't mean to put Louis Armstrong as featuring...so your panties out of a wad.
@RouletteDeath If he actually made his own version of it, ok. But he recorded himself playing over a deceased jazz legend's track. That's both disrespectful, and kind of weird.
“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.”
I know everyone hates Kenny G, but what if I, an average high school sax player, were to play this song over Armstrong. I'd probably get comments like "Cool idea", "nice work", and "Keep it up".
But when Kenny G did it, people hated all the more and claimed he was comparing himself to Armstrong. Just food for thought...
This song were on mine grandfather's funeral and i'll always remember this song as a good song. My Grandfather always said that the spring was the most beautiful of all things you can discover. I really miss one of my best friends i ever had. He will always be the biggest piece of my heart
@fishqwer I'm too unfamiliar with jazz and have a too undevelopped ear to be able to judge even half what Pat said in that interview; but I just don't hear this Kenny G guy bringing anything valuable to this song...
I've listened to a couple of his tracks (only recently found out he exists), and they just bore me :s
Rank.....Putrid......Vile......Bile inducing shit.......and that's putting it politely.

After hearing this, i realise Pat Metheny wasn't arrogant at all. This is truly disgusting.

This song were on mine grandfather's funeral and i'll always remember this song as a good song. My Grandfather always said that the spring was the most beautiful of all things you can discover. I really miss one of my best friends i ever had. He will always be the biggest piece of my heart

@TakesTwoToTango Yes sir it is.
