  • is silk soymilk good for you? i went to their web site and it says that it actually reduces the risks of cancer and it is good for vegatarians, cholesterol free, lactose and dairy free , 6 grams of soy protien. and it says it reduces the risk of heart disease. it also says its all natural soymilk.

  • Hi Julie, the store I went to to look for Agave Nectar, carried Barley Malt syrup in the same section. Could that be used instead of the Barley Malt extract powder (if the store did not carry it)?

  • @Livelyanv I think that the Barley Malt syrup can sometimes be bitter tasting. I would just do it without the malt.

  • I have a question, I just became a vegan this week and I recently tried to make vegan Mac and Chease. The soy milk I used was Great Value orginal organic soymilk and My kitchen smelled really bad after I tried to cook it and  The food tasted really bad aswell. Is there any way I can cook the soymilk without the smell? Am I doing it wrong? Or should I buy a different soy milk or Milk alternative?

  • @HuffleSlytherin1 With mine, I use Silk's Organic Unsweetened Soymilk to cook with. It has a very neutral flavor and is perfect. I make vegan scalloped potatoes, vegan macaroni and cheese, etc, etc. and it comes out great! Try it! :)

  • Reality check: This is an extended commercial/infomercial for a commercial machine. Unplug from the grid! p.s. Soy milk is bad for you. Try rice milk or almond milk!

  • Has anyone ever tried using wheatgrass berries (soaked, of course) when making soy milk? The chewy wheatgrass berries have a delicious nutty flavor that tastes great on their own or sprinkled on oatmeal, salads, etc.. I'll try adding the wheatgrass to my soy milk recipe in the future. So many possibilities....

  • Love soy milk. I've been buying it for several years but my favorite brand has been bought by another company and the quality has changed. The organic price is about $7 a gallon. YIKES! I heard that making my own can reduce the cost a lot. So, I've decided to use my masticating juicer to crush the soy beans using a recipe I found online. I just bought 2 lbs of organic soy beans and they are soaking now. If the taste is to my liking then I may buy an automatic maker. Thanks for the tips!!!

  • Does anyone here know if the new Soyquick machine will make raw nut milks as well? I sent an email to soyquick two weeks ago and they have yet to answer me. I know the new soyquick has three settings but I don't know if any of those will allow me to make nut milks, or grain milks without heat. Do you?

  • Really it makes it so much easier. No grinding or blending the beans. The machine does that for you. The longest part for me is washing up after. OH and waiting for the milk to cool. That is unless I'm making a mocha.

  • Interesting but what are the advantages of this device compared to a simple pot on the stove? I guess maybe less need to stir since the heating element does not touch the bottom. But its just 15 minutes of stirring. The real pain is going to be filtering. If the device also filtered I be buying it today.

  • I love my Soy Quick Machine. I use barley extract, rice syrup and a pinch of salt. I even pre-soak my beans for the week and make my milk every other day since we go through it so quickly. I will have to try adding the rice and oats and see if the kids notice. I also found that this makes the most AWESOME Soy Lattes, Starbucks is nothing compared to it. I just add a coffee scoop of coffee beans to the mix and push the start button. Just flavor to taste after. I just love it!

  • i have a question, if i want to make almond milk do i have to soak the almonds like i did with the soybeans????

  • Are you making it in a blender or a soymilk machine? If you have a strong blender you don't have to soak them.

  • I hate the way people say 'soy is bad for you, it has these inhibitors in etc etc'. People dont realise is that lots of foods have a bad side to them 'dairy = hormones', meat ' drugs from the animal etc'. vegetables contain anti nutrients. If you drink soy milk, wont do u any harm, alcohol is poison, now, most of us can drink that in moderartion without any health problems. Dont worry! Just avoid soy protien isolate,they process it with chemicals, nothing to do with the bean itself being bad.

  • Phytoestrogens in soy products are not going to turn you into a gir. I chug soymilk like some people chug beer, and I weightlift, go four wheeling, shoot lots of guns, and do everything else that badasses like to do. You're not going to all of the sudden have an irresistible urge to take up sewing or start growing flowers.LOL

  • i just looked at the site and you can make soymilk, rice milk, nut milks, mung bean milk, grain and oat milks, tofu and soy yogurt with this! You can use the leftover pulp to make things too. More versatile than the name suggests. I think I might save up for one, it sounds worth the investment.

  • I completely agree! She's incredibly good at what she does. They need a vegan chef on that crazy channel. It would be kind of funny if they put Julie's show in the time slot directly following Paula Deen.

  • I can't help but find it amusing when some people proclaim that the phytoestrogens in soy products (a plant eaten for millenia with no ill effects) are ever so horribly dangerous and should NEVER be consumed; and then turn around and gleefully consume antibiotic, hormone, and cholesterol-laden cow products... yeah, some are quick to point the finger at others but very slow to look at themselves.

    Sorry, had to rant. :-)

  • very true! Soy is not evil! I do want to find out if this machine can be used to make rice and nut milks too, I have been told by a nutritionist that it is best to vary them. Almond and hemp milk are very good for you!
