Dude they are playing live, and when you play live it sounds different from the stuff they recorded because they know what the recorded music sounds like, and they make it different to give it more of an interesting vibe
I still think it's funny how the kexp poster thought this was the live version of When I'm Small. Like everyone has said, this is Lucy's Mix. The actual live version sounds just like the original song and they play it really well.
i truly am not trying to start anything when i say this, but while, yes, theyre sound is unique, for those who feel they are a genre of their own, you should listen to trip hop. the elements of the album version of this song, i feel, are straight out of trip hop. at the least, if you don't agree. you at least have a new 'genre' to tap into. there are some gems in there :) thanks. also, phantogram i loved you at sxsw. austin loves youu haha
Just the fact that people are even debating what they choose to do creatively tells us that this band is up to something great.I think they are super talented myself.
Why is everyone bitching? If you want the album version, *listen to the album* or check out one of the many other renditions on youtube. If you want a different but really nice take on a great song, come here. As fans you should be thankful to have options.
come to oklahoma, it is in the middle of nowhere but i can drag about 50 of my friends to the concert! (my friend made me watch twilight, she owes me BIG TIME) >:)
@Balzook They have a big tour from September through October listed on their myspace page. The closest show is probably Dallas. Your friends should go because they like the music though. Not because you drag them.
I like this version more. It is more ethereal. I don't want to compare this group with Beachhouse They are both very different. I do appreciate Phatogram showing range with their resources, however.
I really like the group, this version isn't bad, i just would rather my fans heard the FIRST version of 'When I'm small' before this.
It is a little early for a remix, don't you think?
The version you released before is AMAZING and massively better than this. Hey I'm all for creativity, but come one people, the other version is blatantly a hit, ride it to fame :)
anyways, end rant.... I hope to hear more from this group, i can sense talent
@kexpradio Art is up to critique, even by the fans. I love phantogram but I agree with the poster, if they had this opportunity they should of played the original for people who have never heard of them. The original could be a mega hit in my opinion.
they chose the remix for whatever reason, maybe because they know they have great fans who will talk about it????? or to show another version that people may not have heard or just because they played other so much that they wanted a break. it doesn't matter as long as it's great music!
@kexpradio wow i would expect at least you to know that this is a separate song on their album called when i'm small (lucy's mix), its not a live version its a whole separate song
@rayzian damn, i've been trying to find a good quality live version and they had to do a remix when I find one----still pretty good but like the original better
@Olsonic This version is available as a bonus track on the iTunes version of Eyelid Movies. The regular version is pretty easy to find here on YouTube also.
@Olsonic thats lame. if ppl wanna hear the other version they can search for the other version...but they shouldnt have to hinder their creativity to sell their product.
@kwooknewin Yawn, you can straw-man me all you want. To me you are just kwooknewin on YouTube... a knee-jerk flamer that tends to suggest the worst in people. You have no idea who I am beyond a few comments on this video. Don't pretend to sum me up you fag.
@Olsonic ahah this is not about me...judging by your response i hit a nerve. im just commenting...if my comment gets that strong of a response from you ...it must have truth in it....after all...im just kwooknewin from youtube. :)
@kwooknewin hmmm, not sure how you came to that conclusion. Whatever though, you're going to believe whatever feels the best to you--it's obvious you enjoy doing so. But let me caution you: if your standard for conclusive and empirical evidence is that low; if you really think you can sum me up by a YouTube comment, then you should go back to middle school because you're a fucking retard that doesn't understand how to put together a reasonable argument.
@Olsonic ahah at this point i dont even have a point. im just laughing at you cuz youre getting all butt hurt and trying to sound pseudo intellectual when smaller words would do. smells like an inferiority complex hmmm...notice how you have to use words to hurt my feelings :( to justify your "argument" when im not even really trying to prove anything...so i wouldnt even call what i said an argument...i just made a comment and you give it legitimacy by adding fuel to the fire.
@Olsonic Experimenting with song arrangements is an underrated skill. There are bands and musicians who have enough trouble with one version of some songs. They did quite well, in my opinion. And this is not a remix. It's a re-arrangement. And I think it's bloody brilliant.
@spacecadetmike It's amazing that people still respond to what I wrote a year ago, and still take it out of context. Nothing to see here, no need to straw-man me. I never said it was bad, I really enjoy this.
@Olsonic It's definitely a great performance, and if they ever do put together a collection of remixes, re-arrangements, live or radio show performances, I really hope this one makes the cut.
@Olsonic For a live set like this, a "remix" is sometimes the better choice. An opportunity to play something a little different for the real fans. The original is a hit indeed but this version was definitely a treat :)
