  • I think you are usin Songsterr.

  • What was that

  • love the vmnt man!

  • dang, nobody plays this song even close to being right, everyone follows the tabs which or horrific

  • are you using a vmnt usa i can't tell

  • @306741lock yup that's the limited edition usa model.

  • @Shadow456376 Ahh I hate you jk I want that guitar so bad but 3500 or more is too much for a dean but this one is signed by Dave though

  • @306741lock lol idk dean's usa line is pretty top notch. worth the money imo.

  • I also play Opeth with an vmnt

  • drop d?

  • Nah, Ghost Reveries is tuned in DADFAE (Dmadd9), with the exception of this song and Hours of Wealth, which is tuned in standard EADGBE tuning..

  • @MilletGtr actually, this song is in drop d

  • Where did you learn this? I really need some references if I am to figure it out for myself..

All the evidence points towards this song being in E standard, but I'm open to new ideas, so please tell me where you learned this..

  • Really because the 6 string root powerchords playing with one finger and the entire beginning revolving around a D chord is evidence of E standard lol?

  • Just because the key of a song is set to something specific, doesn't mean that is the tuning of the song. And no I did not say that the beginning revolving around D (which it does) is evidence of the tuning being in E, you are filling in the gaps yourself on that one.

Everything in the song points towards the tuning being in E standard, because it never goes below E and some parts would not be playable otherwise, and so on.

Please bring something constructive instead of being sarcastic.

  • I never said it was. The 6th string root power chords should are all the evidence you need. So no, NOTHING in the song points to standard tuning.

  • Listen to 01:50 - 01:52 (right after he growls: Can't sleep to the scraping) in the actual song where first an E is played (on the sixth string) then, while the E is ringing, they play fret 7 (B) on the 1st string, fret 6 (F) on the 2nd string and fret 7 (D) on the 6th string, all of them let ring.. The let rings requires the guitarist to hold down all of these notes together, proving that the 6th string played open is an E.

No mans hands would be able to play that chord in a Dropped D tuning.

  • After listening closely to the riffs of the actual song at: 1.43 - 1.48 (where you think they are playing Eb5 and D5 power chords), I noticed that they actually slide downwards with the guitars after playing what you think is the open D5 chord (right after he sings: Haunted nights). How would you slide further downwards than your tuning permits?

The answer is that they aren't playing D5 and Eb5 chords, but actually inverted fifths, a.k.a fourths and the bass is providing the root.

  • @MilletGtr whatever makes you happy bro. i played it in drop d and it sounds fine to me. post a video with your tuning and i'll be happy to see it.

  • @Shadow456376 Yeah sure, I'm being very nitpicky about these things. Both tunings works.

  • @MilletGtr close, but its DADFAD

  • @DMBassNVox No, go watch some live footage of Ghost Reveires and The Baying of The Hounds, where there are some octave leads, and Mike plays them as if it's DADFAE..

Octave leading on the 1st and 3rd string usually have a range of 3 frets, while on Ghost Reveries they play them with a range of 1 fret, which means it has to be DADFAE.

I'm still not sure about beneath the mire though, I really need some live footage to figure that one out, but it's most probably EADGBE (standard)..

  • i also play Opeth with a vmnt(x( lolz. seems to fit 4 some reason

  • lol everything metal fits with a vmnt

  • my favorite opeth song

    kudo's for playing it good : ]

  • thanks man!!

  • You need to add some mids and bass to your sound. What amp are you running through?

  • i think the nut is either bone or graphite. i 4get. (i think bone)

  • Nice video!

Are you sure about the chords during the intro? I'm trying, slowing down the track, i just can't found those chords on the fretboard, either way it sounds horrible.

I'm asking this because i feel the chords you're playing (i mean the intro, not the rest) are wrong too... but maybe it's just me..

  • thanks for the comment. i'm pretty sure those are the right chords, but everyone's listening thru their own ears, u kno wat i mean? they sounded pretty right to me and when i checked a tab they matched so i thot ok. o well

  • Not even close...

    lol, just joking. Nice job!

  • lol i kinda lost my breath after i read the first line..dont do that 2 me man!! lol thanks

  • nice job! i love this song! btw u did ur solos awesome

  • I know most of the album is in open d minor (DADFAD), Harlequin Forest DADFAE, and Hours of Wealth standard, but I've heard this one is standard too; what tuning did you use?

  • i used drop d. since the first part of the song is in d minor it makes for a nice full tone when you play the more expansive chords. also the 2nd solo has a quik transition from the 5th string to the 6th string tht becomes a lot easier if its in drop d

  • nice, your doing good now

but your guitar look different than it usually does

when i come we are learning some new songs me and you

  • nice guitar...

  • Sweet. Great Job

    Opeth is fantastic
