Hum, excuse me, but Mr. Elfman is definitely NOT a spaz, lol! Being a member of the Oingo Boingo fan club from way back when, I think his dancing resembles that of the lead singer from 'The Talking Heads'. Do you think Mr. Elfman might be copying him?
From the early 80s in SCal my only regret is not going to more of his concerts....and as far as the bathtub remark below...as a married man of many years I have had/have the same fantasy...this guy was rockin in MTV live at thr Ritz..you'll see what I mean
has to be my fav.... I should stop caring about the little things.... Hmmmm, I wonder what my psych doc would say about this??? but why should I care???
if you're danny you can get away dancing like that...but if you're jo shmo who works at gamestop and dance like that.....everyone would call ya a loser...dont lie guys lol
Hahaaa.... we didn't dance like that in the 80's, they were pulling your leg. I met Danny at about this time, and he was so messed up he thought he was in San Diego (when in fact we were in Seattle). Danced like a spaz, cause that was the best he could do.... hahaaaa.
@kingbotanical Not at all. Far from featuring random 80's wackiness, as so many here seem to assume, every image has a purpose. The suit Danny's wearing is a parody of the early 80's "yuppie" culture, shallow self absorbed rich guys with big cell phones. THe very kind of girls he serves the heads to in the restaurant. Danny was criticizing these types for not caring for the misfortune of others, NOT endorsing this behavior.
@elfojuice In the end, even the tropical island can't keep him sealed off form the world's problems...as we see by the nuclear bomb (another big 80's worry) going off in the distance.
Even today this video reflects the attitude of 'why should I care?" When other people's troubles are reduced to inconveniences to us. Like when he says " He seemed ok but his suicide ruined everyones day" why should I care. It's thought provoking!
Funny, I hated this song and video in college in 1983. Now that I am more aware of the musical ability of Danny Elfman, I have a real like and appreciation for it - the structure, lyrics and humour. Dunno, maybe that stupid "wierd science" period influenced me at the time - that was dumb stuff. Everybody has bills to pay though, I guess.
@rpoberhausen But the band had always written songs for films and appeared on the soundtracks long before Weird science... that song just happened to take off, you can't control that sort of thing, at the time they were just doing what that always did, But i guess theres a reason Danny hated it lol.
@JewsOwnThatAsshole SORRY YOU STUPID CUNT, BUT DANNY HIMSELF SAID IN A T.V. INTERVIEW THAT PUNK WAS ONE OF HIS BIGGEST INFLUENCES FOR OINGO'S EARLY MUSIC...AND YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE A REAL FAN...AWWW...SUCKS TO BE YOU! LMAO!

People did not "dance like that in the 80's" any more than people do now. Elfman was infamous for his "spastic" style, particularly during Oingo's early years when his dance style and stage presence were *very* odd - and incredibly cool.
I think Danny dances like that not so much because they danced like that in the 80s, but more because that's how he wanted to dance and he therfore could give a fat shit what people thought.
@dallen3000 watch Cee-Lo Green's music video for Fuck You, the only white people are waitresses. (: on a relevant note, I LOVE THIS SONG. Oingo Boingo is great.

This song taught me how to deal with "Maverick Emos" (Emos witch dont care about other peoples problems because they appareantly have a bad past), if someone doesent care about other peoples problems then its probably because they dont know how it feels to have a real problem
Danny has to be one of my favorite musicians/composers ever!
P.s. If you haven't seen The Forbidden Zone look it up and watch it Danny's first ever score for a film and a priceless jem from 80's b films/cult films
@spankinmymonkeyisfun u serious, is that the movie with little tattoo in it? he did the score for that? i didnt think anyone ever heard of that movie!

@ 0:30 the baby in the crib reminds me of the Looney Tunes character Baby Face Finster in the cartoon "BUGS BUNNY BABY BUGGY BUNNY"

I absolutly love this song!! It's too bad that the album is out of print. I bet it has to do with the fight they got into with their record company.
