  • Nice! VFR flight with a DC10!

  • back then these were Death Contraption 10s

  • what would happen when the plane drops its load while on the ground?

  • I've never been a fan of the DC-10, but with that paint job it looks like something Boeing could still come out with today. So modern. So lovely.

  • Damn you could fry up some eggs on that tarmac!

  • Awesome footage! Great to see the DC-10 keeping people safe. Long live the 10! Does this one have RVSM and ETOPS cert?? just curious.

  • @jt8fan7272

not sure... would think not though not used in that way?

  • So I guess the wing engines are used for flight and water engines .

  • i live about ten miles from this airport

  • lol from :16-30 should've played the jaws theme

  • @astronoman11 actually one other version did have that..... too funny!

  • Other than the obvious, is there any advantage over the 747 tanker?

  • One of the best planes ever made :) It's was a work horse and it still is :)

  • @Will777ABQ ~If I recall correcty it could turn in about 30-40 minutes.

  • @DeeJayMiikkii Thanks!

  • @SirKamiloPL I think it was about 33-34C (94F)

  • looks hot

  • 910 and 911 are stationed out in Victorville, Ca so I get to see them everyday, I was at SCLA when the Forrest Dept was testing 910 for service, great fun fantastic aircraft.

  • Tanker 910 has flown over our house during the 2008 grass valley fire, what a beauty !!!

  • it was leaking after takeoff and it can't retract it's landing gear

  • Great footage of an awesome airplane ! Always liked the DC-10/MD-11

  • i can assure you, you would never have volunteered to be on one of them when a violent decompression occured at 38,000 ft. MD should never have been allowed to fly. again!. after the crash involving Captain Alfred Haynes.

  • @logo10heli ~thanks!

  • when did they ground the DC10?? I just got to know that i thougght that they were still in service

  • the DC10 had a horrible record of failures

  • A lot DC - 10 Now On JUNK Yard.

  • I love it

  • be nice if it actually dropped some water

  • looks hot

  • I bought a 15" wing span model of its commercial version, hope to put it together soon.

  • i mean whenever the retardant is used

  • looks like it is pissing

  • uhhh....yeah boeing made them better? of course you wouldnt know this but that was the only aircraft ever banned from flying until they fixed there problems for...ummm....crashing

  • That's not true. Many aircraft types have been grounded due to safety concerns. This is typically done as a precautionary measure after an accident where the cause is mechanical failure, whether it was an isolated incident or not. Once the DC-10 returned the air its lifetime safety record was comparable to other airliners of its generation.

  • This is not the only aircraft that has ever been grounded, lets see they grounded the British Comet fleet. One of the first airliner groundings ever. They grounded the F-15 fleet because an F-15 broke up in flight. They grounded the fire fighting C-130 and the PB4Y/P4Y Privateer after those 1 of each of those aircraft crashed a month apart while they were fighting fires. There is more if you would like me to name them.

  • err, this one is not a tristar. it's a dc-10 :/

  • What a beautiful aircraft!

  • waht more airplanes have a third engine on the back?

  • The Lockheed L-1011 has a similar configuration to the DC-10. The Boeing 727 and Tupolev Tu-154 have all three engines mounted on the empennage.

  • ok thank you :)

  • nice...and they have windows for that water or other fluid :) How cool is that.

  • does this one have to land to refuel or skim above a lake?

  • i srsly doubt that thing is gonna skim a lake

  • it wud be cool seeing it do that

  • yeah but it'd probly crash.

  • What a soft landing at the end!

  • whoo dats so pouliting...hott stuuf there

  • CL 415 is still the king. No need for an airport, the flying hydrant can scoop up a belly full of water in ten seconds from any good-sized lake.

  • it does not hold up against the Soviet made

    Beriev Be200.......

  • Capacities are the same. Beriev may be faster, but jets are expensive to operate - and would you REALLY want to drive a fanjet into airspace inhabited by scared birds? CL 415 will slice 'em and dice 'em....

  • ohhhhh you have a POINT there about birds being sucked into the turbofans!!!

I was thinking of capacity, but I suppose that make up for that having several dozen Canadairs working as a team.

  • Now thats an air tanker.

  • Whats the airline

  • Sorry I forget, it was a private company.

Harrison359, the EVA747 was scheduled to do a demo at MWH but had to cancel due to a maintenance issue.

  • wow, it seems like more and more older planes are being converted to do this...Great Idea too. Have you seen the Evergreen 747 water tanker ?

  • Looks hot, love he effect the heat wave had.
