Jean-François Paillard lo ricordo sin da giovane, conservo ancora LP del 1961 e e questa riproduzione è fedele con suono rotondo tipico del vinile. Fantastica esecuzione. Grazie per la pubblicazione, commovente.
My favorite as well, love this....listen....can you hear the oboe in the background...beautiful.........I can listen to this over and over....I too play it at max volume when driving......have to be carefull though I want to shut my eyes and let it take me away to some beautiful place......
He taught us that "Pachelbel" should be pronounced like "Bach", the "ch" is like a hard "k", not like "ch" as in "cheat"... and he explain ad infinitum, why he though this IS the BEST version of the Canon.
The RIGHT tempo. Far too many recordings sound like they are off to the races. Very clear and precise, allowing every underlying tone to be heard as a separate voice. Absolutely beautiful.
This is also my favorite version - contemplative...makes you slow down and take a deep breath and realize that the world is not such a bad place if people can create things like this...and chocolate...and ice cream...and roses... find love...give love... My copy is: FRL1-5468 - The Pachelbel Canon and Two Suites for Strings, Fasch two sinfonias and Concerto for Trumpet - RCA Red Seal, Erato The Classic French Collection - Jean Francois Paillard Chamber Orchestra
I remember KLOK-FM in San Francisco used to play this song in the 1980's and everytime they played it, I called in and voted to either remove that song from their playlist or demanded a listener revote!! I was 17 at that time and I didn't think any one that age would like this song and don't think anyone that age today would like this song. I'd would rather listen to the music played on the CHR/Top 40 radio stations than to listen to this song because it is too depressing!!!!
It flows so much better at the slower tempo. At the same time you get a fullness of tone amplified in each note. Such a wonderful balance between bass and pizzicato
My favourite version too. Took me over ten years to find out which version this was and the record shop had to import it from France (this was the 1980s). I am pretty sure this is on the Erato label Gravure Universelle STU70468? It has Le Concerto pour Trompette de Fasch on the B-side. I particularly love the harpsichord solo and that plucked violin string sound. Easily the best version.
I found my copy on a RCA vinyl LP titled "Film Classics" in the early 1980s. It contained several classical music selections from movies and then I found a cd copy of it on the RCA Red Seal label.
I agree with you. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best version. This is the version that was used in the movie "Ordinary People" with Mary Tyler Moore and Timothy Hutton. This version talks to your soul.

This is the best version of this song.
This song is my lullaby...it puts me to sleep when I'm not feeling well. =]
I'm also planning on using this song at my wedding when I'm walking down the isle...many years from now. ^_^

FYI, in Canada in the 80's CBC's Bob Kerr - may he be many time blessed - used this as his afternoon "Off the Record" - 1-3 - programme's end music:
"Each program began with a warm "Good afternoon, friends," and ended with "A fond good afternoon" over his closing theme, the Pachelbel Canon. "

The definitive recording.
The arpeggios in the harmony are very important. Very few arrangements have them.
