Paul Schaffer is such a great keyboard man I don't know why he used that cheezy organ instead of a Hammond B-3 with a Whiltzer to push this song. Oh well, great utube send.
@xWorIdAtWarx The 12 string behind Rod to the left is a Guild. I'd guess the one on the right is a Martin, from the rectangular headstock. The label looks like it might be blurred out, though it's hard to tell with the grainy footage.
There should be a Thumbs Up with LOVE when it comes to these two. Rod and Ronny are rock music legends, joined at the hip. Ronny's book has some lovely stories of when they were kids in the early days of the faces. They were so young and shy that when the girls came back to their hotel after the gigs they would rig up dividers between their beds. So cute and so human. God bless the pair of them.
he got tired of saying maggie, at the end he sings "maggot". and maggie replies, " you fllippen geezer makes ringos nose look good". it all incites alcoholism.
Where's the next Rod Stewart going to come from? The music scene today is just abysmal. I'm glad I grew up in the goldem era of music with genuine & charismatic rock stars.
I am pretty sure that Will Lee can play anything on the bass. They threw a chart in front of him and he is sight reading and playing the music they gave him on the spot, end of story. He is about a pro as you are going to get.
I can't even begin to comprehend how epic it must have been for Letterman's house band to learn they would be accompanying Stewart and Ron Wood on the immortal Maggie May!!! It's the stuff that dreams are made of. And by-the-way -- they nailed it!!
Outstanding! And to the gentleman complaining about the bass player: his name is Will Lee...please look up his credentials. The band on this show has to to be prepared to play any one of about 200 songs at any given time during the show EVERY NIGHT. Can you fault Mr. Lee for not wanting to get turned around (that means losing his place) while backing up Rod Stewart? They were/are some of the finest musicans in the world. Incidentally...he nailed it!
Why does no one ever choose to leave out the Letterman intros to musical performances on The Letterman Show? They add nothing but time as far I've ever been able to discern.
Look at the butt-munch playing bass. He is reading sheet music. What are there, 5 basic chords in the enitre ef-ing song? A, G, D, Em, and F#m. This is only one of the most well known songs on the planet. Could this guy not have taken 5 minutes the night before to learn this song? What an insult. And nobody in the history of music is as guilty as Rod when it comes to selling out. His early music is among the best made. Circa 1975, the paychecks became more important than the music.
English People make the best music ever. no kidding. im an american but these people in the north sea they make better music than their US counterparts; beatles, led zep, beegees, deep purple, phil collins, sting, police, queen, pink floyd, black sabbath, rod stewart just to name a few. even the other ueropean countries abba, scorpions, kingdom come, europe,
@PEDROCLASSIC I wouldn't say british makes better music than usa because well, b4 the beatles hit america they were covering songs of american artists and so the other British singers if weren't for bob dylan's comment on the beatles' lyrics, the beatles wouldn't change the way they write music. As for the other famous English singers, well we do have a lot of our own such as the artists under motown label, jimmy hendrix, johnny cash, ray charles, james brown..etc the list could go on forever.
@PEDROCLASSIC My point is if weren't for artists in america b4 1960's then there would not be good british music but then again if weren't for the british invasion in 1964 then music would never change into today' music. Anyways, its not like I pull what I said from my ass, I actually took 2 history classes on music..I think you should take it too..it's interesting because I also said what you said b4 but until i took the class n accept the fact that music influences each other.
Those session guys are as tight as anything by the way. That's not Stewarts band. I assume they're just studio musicians. Provided by the show.
Got to take into account, Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood WOULD NOT have met these people before before the day of the show. Let alone practise with them.
To be that tight, backing him, is amazing. As Stewart acknowledges.
Saying that, Rod and Ronnie are old veterans, and must have played that track live about 5'000 times!
Yes. Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart both used to be in the Jeff Beck Group in the 1960s. They then left and formed The Faces.
Rod Stewart then went solo, and Ronny Wood joined the Rolling Stones. However, they both played still in the Faces as well, for a number of years, until Wood exclusively played with the Stones, and Stewart exclusively played solo.
Wood And Stewart played togethor from 1967 to 1976
Imagine being a musician and given 4 minutes to be the backing band for Rod on his signature song. There is no finer live version than this. Even Rod acknowledges the group with the first two words out of his mouth when the song is over.
You're totally right. Considering that's basically Letterman's house musicians, it's tight as anything I've heard.
However, Ron Wood is just about the most talented guitarist of his era. As in, ahead of Keith Richards. If you watch him live, when he's playing with Stewart in the 1970s, he just dominates the songs.
When he performs live Rod Stewart seems to forget or change the words and verses to his own songs. But overall I think it was cool to see Rod and Ron rock out with Dave Letterman's band. Two thumbs up!!
I truly love this Man he is so SEXY his performances are always above 10 and I've seen him in concert more times than i can remember starting back in 1978
Right before the commercial the first bars from "Street Fighting Man" is played. Perhaps that was the intermission music during the commerical break. Rod actually did a cover version of "SFM" that appeared "An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down'.
It's always great to see Rod & Ronnie together. 2 unique styles that compliment each other perfectly, .... and if that isn't enough, they practically look like twin bros too. Funny interview here to boot. Thanx 4 sharing.
