  • Rod & Ron "The Thunder Duo"

  • Paul Schaffer is such a great keyboard man I don't know why he used that cheezy organ instead of a Hammond B-3 with a Whiltzer to push this song. Oh well, great utube send.

  • beats the hell otta what he is singing these days..Storybook sux, my grandmother likes it!!

  • Rod looks like Emma Thompson a bit lol.....Awesome song tho :)

  • forever young.

  • What kind of guitars are those, the acoustic ones?

  • @xWorIdAtWarx The 12 string behind Rod to the left is a Guild. I'd guess the one on the right is a Martin, from the rectangular headstock. The label looks like it might be blurred out, though it's hard to tell with the grainy footage.

  • After all this time Mr Steward still rocks !!

  • After all this time Mr Steward still rocks !!

  • There should be a Thumbs Up with LOVE when it comes to these two. Rod and Ronny are rock music legends, joined at the hip. Ronny's book has some lovely stories of when they were kids in the early days of the faces. They were so young and shy that when the girls came back to their hotel after the gigs they would rig up dividers between their beds. So cute and so human. God bless the pair of them.

  • 18 years old but its classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the sound of the hammond in the original version is so cool

  • reminds my of cruising with my mom in her vw bug. it didn't last long but it sure is great memories

  • he got tired of saying maggie, at the end he sings "maggot". and maggie replies, " you fllippen geezer makes ringos nose look good". it all incites alcoholism.

  • legend

  • Where's the next Rod Stewart going to come from? The music scene today is just abysmal. I'm glad I grew up in the goldem era of music with genuine & charismatic rock stars.

  • THIS WAS TOTALLY GREAT !!!!!!!!! Thank You Much

  • THAT LITLE KICK HE DID MADE LAUGH

  • The best!

  • What is that Idiot Paul Shaffer directing the band for? I think they know the song Paul

    you ego maniac

  • i love rod stewart and i love david letterman!!! thanks for posting :-))

  • Rod stewart is one of my favorit singers he is a legend

  • The Ron and Rod Show 1st Class . . .

  • I am pretty sure that Will Lee can play anything on the bass. They threw a chart in front of him and he is sight reading and playing the music they gave him on the spot, end of story. He is about a pro as you are going to get.

  • who the hell was playing through that marshall half stack?

  • I can't even begin to comprehend how epic it must have been for Letterman's house band to learn they would be accompanying Stewart and Ron Wood on the immortal Maggie May!!! It's the stuff that dreams are made of. And by-the-way -- they nailed it!!

  • GREAT songs never die 40 years later and its still just as awesome a song as the day it came out

  • Outstanding! And to the gentleman complaining about the bass player: his name is Will Lee...please look up his credentials. The band on this show has to to be prepared to play any one of about 200 songs at any given time during the show EVERY NIGHT. Can you fault Mr. Lee for not wanting to get turned around (that means losing his place) while backing up Rod Stewart? They were/are some of the finest musicans in the world. Incidentally...he nailed it!

  • About the bass lines in this song....Pick up a bass and play the studio version....If you can do this, you're a great bass player.

  • already the voice was gone

  • @craigenputtock wtf? wash your ears out mate.

  • Why does no one ever choose to leave out the Letterman intros to musical performances on The Letterman Show? They add nothing but time as far I've ever been able to discern.

  • Look at the butt-munch playing bass. He is reading sheet music. What are there, 5 basic chords in the enitre ef-ing song? A, G, D, Em, and F#m. This is only one of the most well known songs on the planet. Could this guy not have taken 5 minutes the night before to learn this song? What an insult. And nobody in the history of music is as guilty as Rod when it comes to selling out. His early music is among the best made. Circa 1975, the paychecks became more important than the music.

  • @dmf3367 Chill the hell out.

  • funny Ronnie is in a shadow, when Stewart would be nowhere without Wood and Faces

  • English People make the best music ever. no kidding. im an american but these people in the north sea they make better music than their US counterparts; beatles, led zep, beegees, deep purple, phil collins, sting, police, queen, pink floyd, black sabbath, rod stewart just to name a few. even the other ueropean countries abba, scorpions, kingdom come, europe,

  • @PEDROCLASSIC bob dylan is better then all those you mentioned combined

  • @shutdownthefed that's your opinion. say whatever

  • @shutdownthefed Bullshit Dylans a great songwriter but a horrible singer and musician. He wasnt anywhere as good as the beatles...

  • @PEDROCLASSIC I wouldn't say british makes better music than usa because well, b4 the beatles hit america they were covering songs of american artists and so the other British singers if weren't for bob dylan's comment on the beatles' lyrics, the beatles wouldn't change the way they write music. As for the other famous English singers, well we do have a lot of our own such as the artists under motown label, jimmy hendrix, johnny cash, ray charles, james brown..etc the list could go on forever.

  • @PEDROCLASSIC My point is if weren't for artists in america b4 1960's then there would not be good british music but then again if weren't for the british invasion in 1964 then music would never change into today' music. Anyways, its not like I pull what I said from my ass, I actually took 2 history classes on music..I think you should take it too..it's interesting because I also said what you said b4 but until i took the class n accept the fact that music influences each other.

  • @PEDROCLASSIC

think you will find Rod Stewart is scottish......his name is a big clue?

  • @TheKevinsmiller He was born in London. He's a plastic jock.

  • The Faces should give it a go for old times sake!

Though Stewart is still cool for being a model railroader!

  • Did you see the old memories flood when Stuart looked at Wood?

  • styling and profiling Rod.....sexy beast. One of my favs.

  • Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, Will Lee, Anton Fig, Paul Scheaffer and two other killer guys... wow!!!!

  • oh rod! you could that better in earlier years!

  • Rods ok but its all fake. Ron is plying electric riffs in what?

  • my dad loved that song Maggie May.....im serious, im named after it.

  • awww yeah. . . year I was born.

  • 0.34 - 0.36 he´s so nervous

  • ..these comments remind me how old I am

  • real cool dude!

  • Well, Ronnie Wood is a sweetie pie.

  • @kimatoz3 I love Ronnie. He's the reason I am watching this. lol. But Rod looks nice.

  • he always changes the lyrics live lol must be drunk/stoned/fucked-up haha

  • What a pro man.

Your modern band will turn up 6 hours early, and be sound checking and practising all afternoon for a show this size.

Rod and Ronnie show up 2 hours early, don't even bring their own backing band, just use the show's band, and are perfection

  • Great! bur Rod seems a bit drunk i guess

  • "Nice band!" says Rod.

  • Those session guys are as tight as anything by the way. That's not Stewarts band. I assume they're just studio musicians. Provided by the show.

Got to take into account, Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood WOULD NOT have met these people before before the day of the show. Let alone practise with them.

To be that tight, backing him, is amazing. As Stewart acknowledges.

Saying that, Rod and Ronnie are old veterans, and must have played that track live about 5'000 times!

  • What can you say but CLASSIC

  • faaaaaackin BRILLIANT!!!

  • is that the guy from the rolling stones!?

  • @SirBrianCabrera yes, thats ronnie wood:)

  • @SirBrianCabrera

Yes. Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart both used to be in the Jeff Beck Group in the 1960s. They then left and formed The Faces.

Rod Stewart then went solo, and Ronny Wood joined the Rolling Stones. However, they both played still in the Faces as well, for a number of years, until Wood exclusively played with the Stones, and Stewart exclusively played solo.

Wood And Stewart played togethor from 1967 to 1976

  • I seen him about 7 years ago..he's still damn good

  • Proberly the best Rock singer of all.A voice that hard to duplicate.

  • @patroll330

Not many rod stewart tribute acts! Seriously. I read it's like the least number of any legend

I'd rank him alongside Elvis, for pure vocal talent. He's perfection. Such a strong voice

  • Imagine being a musician and given 4 minutes to be the backing band for Rod on his signature song. There is no finer live version than this. Even Rod acknowledges the group with the first two words out of his mouth when the song is over.

  • @kirtlandpat

You're totally right. Considering that's basically Letterman's house musicians, it's tight as anything I've heard.

However, Ron Wood is just about the most talented guitarist of his era. As in, ahead of Keith Richards. If you watch him live, when he's playing with Stewart in the 1970s, he just dominates the songs.

  • The great Anton Fig on drums!

  • rod must be so bored with this song after 39 years

  • The guitarist behind Rod Stewart looks like Mark Wahlberg from his "Rock Star" movie.

  • When he performs live Rod Stewart seems to forget or change the words and verses to his own songs. But overall I think it was cool to see Rod and Ron rock out with Dave Letterman's band. Two thumbs up!!

  • Rod Stewart has a very distinctive rock and roll voice. He's a pure live performer and definitely a rock and roll legend..!!

  • I truly love this Man he is so SEXY his performances are always above 10 and I've seen him in concert more times than i can remember starting back in 1978

  • galing mo wow

  • galing mo

  • "Here's a new one."

    lolzzz

  • WOW !

  • ron wood!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like Rod but I don't think he sounds nearly as good here as I've seen.

  • was he the one that had like 4 pints of semen pumped from his stomach?

  • @nofear537 that was such bullshit story do u realize 4 pints is 1 gallon no way possible he would have to blow 200 guys in a row. if not more

  • @Summer9876 he kinda seems like the type to stockpile that shit

  • @Summer9876

or just blow a horse! hahaha

  • @nofear537 He is married dickhead

  • @nofear537 do you realise that ur a fuck head

  • @nofear537 no that was you.........

  • I LOVE RON WOOOOOOOOOOOOOD :*

  • GREAT!!!!

  • love him

  • Thanks for posting this. I love the end when Rod doesn't realize it's time for the next song. haha.

  • Right before the commercial the first bars from "Street Fighting Man" is played. Perhaps that was the intermission music during the commerical break. Rod actually did a cover version of "SFM" that appeared "An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down'.

  • I love Rod, but damn, that orange jacket has to go! The 70's was the shit!

  • Personally, I think it compliments Ronnie's blue jacket. :)

  • Really good !

  • かっこええなあ

  • As RodStewart fan asked, where is the second song?

  • can you rate a Rod song less than 5 stars???Love Rod Rock!!

  • Do you by any chance have them singing the other song on here too? Would luv to see that as well. Thanks!

  • OMG!! THANKS FOR UPLOADING THIS!!! I LUV ROD! I like Ronnie too a lot!! =)

  • It's always great to see Rod & Ronnie together. 2 unique styles that compliment each other perfectly, .... and if that isn't enough, they practically look like twin bros too. Funny interview here to boot. Thanx 4 sharing.
