@duncanstives dana 35 came stock on the 4.0 zj and the dana44a came in the 5.2 limited zj. I have a 97 limited zj and it has the dana 44a in the rear, had to order a new yoke, could only get in from a dealer, so if anyone needs a new yoke for their zj with the dana44a just go straight to the dealer, cost was 77 dollars but took 2 weeks to get in.
Even the 35 never gave me any issue though I am sure with bigger tires it would have. I do know a guy who DESTROYED a Dana 30 front in one and he was easy on the skinny pedal. Which is wierd because the 30 is a decent axle... Of course it did have 300k miles on it. This is the guy who posted this video btw (new account). I drive a waggy now.
No... They all came with dana 35s. A 44 is a good upgrade but a 8.8 out of an explorer is even better (easier to do mostly)

most people dont realize how hard you can wheel a stock zj. I think the zj only has one weak link in it and thats the dana 35 rear axle
