Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16 NASV This is singing, folks, listen to the words.
The first time I heard this beautiful hymn start I thought it was a bit boring. Then the Basses were added. Then the Tenors. Then the Sopranos. By the time it was done, I was in tears. I wish my school choir would do this one while I'm a part of it, but I don't know if the choir teacher would want to.
Since I'm a song leader, I lead this one in big congregations whenever I can, because that's when it really resonates in the building. You just want to *soak* it in during the last verse. |-)
@9musicman7 Is it just the youth, or is the whole church invited? Our area-wide singing takes place at Ponca City, OK, at the Hartford Avenue CoC, and it's mostly adults because there are a lot around this area that love to sing (though the number has dwindled I'm sorry to say). I sing it there all the time, because when you have a group of people who love to sing in a building singing this A Capella, it just brings tears of joy to your eyes.
I listened to this song a year ago at a friends request when I was in a very dark place and I believe that this song (this video) is kept me alive and is the reason that I was able to get baptized and find the love of my life shortly after. Thank you so much.
Here's a little history lesson. The term "A Capella" itself actually shows that the original first century church of Christ did not use musical instruments. A Capella means, from the Latin, "as in chapel" (because that was the type of music that was used in church worship...without musical instruments accompanying it. Historians agree that musical instruments were not used in any kind of Christian worship until around 670 A.D. when Pope Vitalian introduced the organ to the Catholic church.
All of the man-made denominations who have incorporated the man-made ideas of introducing musical instruments into worship and have a problem with A Capella singing must not have ever heard this song! To me, when you are in a large group, hearing and singing this in person, it is breathtaking.
I first heard this song in chapel at Mars Hill Bible School while teaching there in 2000. It was beautiful then and even more now. We sang this song in worship tonight at Tuscumbia Church of Christ...Love it!
This song fills my eyes with tears. I just wish the people at my church could sing in sync as well as the people here. Much love and blessings to all. =)
My friend requested this song to the song leader at my church last Sunday. We have a small church, but this song sounds great sang by anyone. Cuz God is love.
I cried at this too! How can instrumental music even come close to the beauty of this?!? How amazing will this sound with the accompanying angels in heaven with all the brethren? Heavenly is the only word that comes close to describing this.
This brought me to tears. I have not been a part of an a cappella church in years. I really miss sitting in church and hearing the whole congregation sing this. It is absolutely beautiful.
@nursepurple It can't. Instrumental music is like a plague, but as long as people don't read do know that GOD never authorized musical instruments in the Church, or the New Testament keep not reading, then you'll have too many people following a lot of nothingness. This was a beautiful rendition of this song.
i go to this camp every year and rthere are about 2500 if not 3000 kids there all high schoolers and when you hear them singing and its just us no praise team or anything you just feel the power of God and it is truely amazing
We sing this at FC Arkansas Camp. :) I love it so much. It makes me cry sometimes. It's mine and my best friend Amanda's favorite song! <3 God is love.
I love this song so much!! i heard it at church last sunday and it sounded awesome even though we only have like, 50 people at our church. This video makes it sound better though
The first time I ever heard this song was at my aunts funeral with over 300 people (most of home sing beautifully) and 100% a cappella. Now every time I hear it. I think of her :)
@lolzgirlmorgan Its a great song. We sing this at my church too. I sing Tenor. And what camp? Some people from my church are leaving for this camp thing they do each summer next week.
@composer321 I absolutely love all of the hymns you have posted! Very encouraging! And I go to a camp every summer as well. Well I used to go, I am now a counselor there.
@Striplie13 Thank you for the kind comment. :) and very cool. My church has this camp thing too in C.A. but i have never gone, but mostly i never really wanted to haha.
What group is performing this? They are very good in my opinion.Whoever is leading them knows what they are doing, and doing a great job. Smooth lead vocals by the ladies, and just the right pedal tones by the basses. Tenors your rockin' the main chant! What better song to have stuck in you head! Is there a MP3 version of this group somewhere? My tiny little computer brain won't let me get it any farther than my desktop.I would expect this very version to be heard as you enter the gates of Heaven
This is absolutely one of my favorite hymns ... standing in an auditorium of several hundred singing this is an experience which transcends the sounds, and becomes a palpable force shared among all present. Beautiful song.
Shivers are going up my spine... so powerful

I love this song so much!!!
I was first introduced to it at a Christian Camp. At first I was like, "How do you sing four parts and have it sound good?'
Then I heard it. WOW.
After that, I never forgot it. Then I went to a Fifth Sunday Singing where they knew this song.
Let me tell you: when you have close to 500 people singing this in perfect harmony, you WILL cry! I do every time I lead it, despite my best efforts.
Speaking of which, I lead this one every opportunity I get.
