  • Sorry to hear about your illness, must be difficult to see others that can drink (not all) and not have a problem with it, like being able to go for one or two and not end up getting out of their trees, pissed as hell.

    I'm a Times reader.......... ;-)

  • I am also a Times reader. Though I occasionally buy The Guardian and Independent when I feel like it.

Drinking is no longer a part of my life now, so I'm fine with it. I still pop to the pub with friends and have a coke. But I just cannot stand watching others loose control like this.

    Z?

  • Oh dear, thats a horrid place to be, to hate so much! I'm not angry at all, im just debating.

I must admit it does sit not to well with me that because of a few drinkers the whole country is judged in such away that it needs to be 'sorted out!' you must of had some real bad experiences........

  • Correct.

I've spent near enough my whole time in England being subjected to various forms of 'torture' :P

Also, being an 'ex'-alcoholic myself, I have a slightly different view than most when it comes to drinking/binge-drinking.

I do generalise, a lot. It helps me understand myself a lot more.

Obviously I do not hate everyone...but to list everyone I like takes too long. I hate most, but like some would be more accurate I guess.

I am being overly harsh on England/Britain

  • but I feel I must at times.

Though I am no Daily Mail reader! :D

    Z?

  • Our country has fallen apart, we've become a nation of benefit frauds and alcoholic binge drinkers.

The country needs to be sorted out.????????????????????????? What i am saying is, fine its your opinion but its wrong, there is no facts and i disagree with your statement that the country needs sorting out. Also saying near enough everything is subjective is also rubbish, Science is fact not non fiction!

  • "near enough" was put in there for a reason, because I knew you'd throw that at me.

    yes, Science is fact.

    But world view is subjective.

Why on earth are you getting so angry about this? I'm treating this as a friendly debate, nothing more, nothing less.

I cannot change your view, you can only mildly sway mine.

I think this country needs sorting out, because I am heavily biased. I hate this country, I hate the vast majority of people within this country.

  • The way I see things is that generelisation is how the human mind works. It's how we can accept things???????? IT ISNT!! lol That is why we have sociologists and psychologists and anthropologists to collect facts!!!! Your are talking about something in society that is about but is not a huge problem, your are being subjective and bias, this is not good either and holds no weight. Your opinion is fine but your facts are wrong.

  • But I am not an Anthropologist, Sociologist or a Psychologist.

Nor did I ever intend this video to be a factual statement on Society, Psychology or Anthropology.

It is a given, it being a YouTube video, that it is personal opinion.

    It always will be.

My opinion is based on my experience, not collected data.

Sure, it holds no weight in any Scientific community. It holds no weight for a true social commentary.

  • I'd also like to note that I never claimed anything as fact, and never wanted it to be seen as such.

It was always intended as my opinion. My view on the world. My view on life.

I am being subjective, because near enough everything is subjective.

  • Good services, cheap dental, opportunity to lean, jobs to go for. benefits for people who cant work. There wil always be 'rotten apples' no system is perfect............but we are better than most!

  • The way I see things is that generelisation is how the human mind works.

It's how we can accept things.

"All Americans are overweight" may not be fact, but it is how we can accept things without going too much into it.

"50% are overweight, 10% obese, 20% normal weight, 20% underweight" is too much detail, too much to list, too much to think about, etc.

A sweeping generalisation helps better put forward my point.

It may not be 100% accurate, but it still has a basis in truth.

  • The few rotten apples that we do have for the most part can be ironed out, can be sorted out.

Some of these rotten apples just shouldn't exist.

Corruption is a normal thing to happen in any society, but un-educated, narrow mindedness is something that should be dealt with.

    Z?

  • Personal opinion is fine, but the facts say different, when you talk about this it sounds as if britain as a whole are all binge drinking, can i say all Muslims are terrorists? All French people eat garlic, all Americans are fat, all black people smoke drugs? No because that is not a fact either!

Your just commenting on a small amount of people how drink, and then saying that the country needs sorting out, that is not the case! I'm proud to be British and i think were fine, free health care

  • My point is when you go out you see what, 200-300 drunk in a city centre the size of Southampton? The population is approx 228,600!!!!

Now if your on the streets when their out it will SEEM alot but when you think of the number at home 228,400 it really not that many people is it?

Your not looking at facts, just what you see, thats a big mistake!

  • It is a mistake, truly, to ignore the facts...but when it is put down to personal opinion and my personal distaste for binge drinkers (not drinkers mind, just people that purposefully go out to get 'slaughtered'), I still say the country needs to be sorted out.

It may not be a MASSIVE problem in the long run...but nothing ever is when you think of it on the large scale. But it is still a problem.

Binge drinking is still a large problem, and barely anything is done about it.

  • Councils have even started putting money into flip-flops/sandals for the police to give women that purposefully go out and get 'slaughtered' in high-heels, so they can walk home easier.

Where's the education in that? How is this teaching them a lesson?

    *shrugs*

I do see where you are coming from, and I was greatly exagerating my point, but I still see it as a problem that needs to be sorted out.

    Z?

  • Sort out, what do you mean?????????????????

  • Fix...solve...put back together...

Our country has fallen apart, we've become a nation of benefit frauds and alcoholic binge drinkers.

The country needs to be sorted out.

  • Now that is one huge sweeping comment, i have many friends that are not drinkers that work hard and pay their taxes.

If you go into any town on Friday/Saturday night and count the amount of people out, take away the sober ones you WILL FIND that 5-10% of most cities population are out drinking. no question that a drinking culture is here but if you look back in history even the Romans when they invaded could not believe in how much the English drunk, Please use a sociological approach!!!!!!!!

  • Ofcourse it's a sweeping generelisation.

You can't really say anything about any country without it being a sweeping generlisation.

All I'm saying is what I see.

What I see everyday is people that waste their lives by binge drinking.

The benefit fraud thing was a mild over-exaggeration, I'll admit.

But there's also the anrrow mindedness of the people in at least the 2 areas I've lived in.

    Z?

  • Polititians are there to make you think you have a choice, you have no choice.

That's why its called the American Dream, cause you gotta be asleep to believe it.

  • Nice... very good points...

  • Good one - some good points as well. What about Prop8? Or did you not hear about that one?

  • Wuuutt a nigga!!

  • ^^^^^^^^ what a racist fuckwad!

  • All you need is love bro. Listen to Obama's speech. He wants to bring us together. I hope one day that can be done. Accept change and the progress of the country we share.
