  • okay, so, we DO change the blending mode to color?

  • Are you using mouse or tablet?

  • 45 people were concerned about getting it exactly perfect...

  • Hey I have a question when I got to change the layer mode to color is grayed out..! how can I fix this?

  • Really thank u man, u helped me a lot in solving this problem. I learned a lot form ur tutorial.

  • ty

    this helped. A LOT.

  • Man, you saved my ass from a lot of silly things trying to find out what the...i was trying to do!!!!! LVX

  • Thanks for this. I'm making tribute video to classmates lost, and the photos in the yearbook are B&W, while the video in the background is in color. This will make it so much more special.

  • I got it exactly perfect and then realized I had nothing to fix up at the end so I just decided to start over

  • A great tutorial, helped me a lot to get colors in an old family pic of mine. Subscribed to your channel!

  • Good tutorial, never mind the haters, I found it to be very interesting and educational.

  • lol at 7:25 she looks like an avatar woman

  • what happens if colors are too dark to be replaced, what can you do in that case??

  • Wow, I'm very much interested now. What kind of tablet product and drawing software would you recommend?

  • Ummm just a quick question: should I worry about getting it exactly perfect or I can easily fix t at the end?

  • spoken well, understood the tutorial well, and am now a subscriber, thanks heaps!

  • spoken well, understood the tutorial well, and am now a subscriber, thanks heaps!

  • I worried about the lines. I forgot about the end.

  • HELP everytime i try to colour in a black and white photo, and i pick a colour its like grey!

  • @spider1292 Make sure you're in RGB mode

  • I think you enjoyed the brief moment of colouring her top

  • Alas, Photoshop just can't hack it. I will be doing a tutorial shortly on the way I colorize.....................and Photoshop only plays approx. 1/15 in the entire process. Sometimes a photo can take a week or longer to "get right" working on it here and there as time permits.

  • @Musique3579

How long is shortly. It's been 3 months.

  • @sunzoo1 There WAS something on. I just sent you a video of one of several in my channel right now. Hope you enjoy! :-)

  • but what happens if I do become worried about not getting it exactly perfect the first time? Can I do it at the end?

  • Jessicaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa <33

  • your voice are booooriiing!!

  • its just my opinion, but I think using a guide photo for picking colours( in this case importing a coloured photo of jessica alba ) could make the result more realistic

  • Omg awesome its so simple!

    Thank you!

  • LOOOL 7:24 --- Avatar xD

  • in old pictures getting a real looking skin is the hardest, along with Lips. The rest is a piece of cake.

  • I think she looks great @ 5:59 XD

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. I read all the Adobe instructions for adding color, I watched a couple of the videos, but they were all missing the first step, to create a new layer and change the setting from normal to color. You were moving a little fast for a beginer like me, but the puase button on here works wonders.

  • great video it was easy for me to follow keep up the good work. Thanks agian

  • Great tutorial. It works great for beginers like me !

    4:20 Turu-Tu, Tu-ru Turu

  • I think the vid is really good!!!

  • OMG that is good

  • the voice is so annoying won't it be better if it was just a plain video?

  • @aidsanity

How bout you stop being fucking retarded and turn off the volume.

    Are you 6?

  • i hate this, it goes wrong in the first god damn step. change blending mode to color... well, fuck me, i cant. its grayed out

  • @Tobbeemee

Go to "Image" "Mode" and change "Greyscale" to "RGB color".

photoshop will not let you colorize certain black and white photo's unless you do that!

  • ive been having a problem with photoshop when i try to add color to a black and white photo i added a new layer changed it to color and when i try coloring it it does not work HELP!?!??!?!?

  • he said he's fix up the whole "going over the lines thing" like not getting it exactly perfect thing like 1000 times,

    but never actually did it..

    wtf..

  • Thank you very much for getting to the fantastic tutorial!

  • Thanks for the tutorial, but you sound really bored with what you are doing.....

  • Good tutorial. You do repeat yourself a lot, though.

  • Okay. I won't worry about getting it exactly perfect, because I can fix it at the end.

  • @Hermaphrodite shut up

  • said 'we can fix it in the end pretty easy' a million times but didn't actually do it.. :p

  • good job thx

    btw jessica is so sexxxxxxy

  • i wanted to change world war 2 photos!!!i cant just imagine how it was -.-

  • what version of photoshop is this?

  • It's Photoshop CS2....I know I typed in Photoshop CS2 on Yahoo Images and it was the first image that popped up...and it matches the layout in this video.

  • Really good tutorial on this. I found it very interesting.

I never knew you could do this - this was a random video that popped up and caught my attention.

    Nice job!

  • I thought it sucked.. Ur telling it WAY too boring man, at least pretend u like doing it..

And stop repeating yourself: "we can fix that at the end pretty easily"

A few times ok, but after 4+ times it started to annoy me..

  • @Killmas1992 "Now change the layer... to calah"

lol because if you didn't notice, this entire tutorial relies on changing the layer to color

  • Excellent tutorial, thank you very much :)

  • @ToxxicWhisper Try. Don't be hard on u. U have no idea how much I sucked on photoshop = S. But then I learned = ]

  • wonderful teaching.. thanks .. it is very helpful to me... thanks once again

  • Man her skin looks too pink.

  • googd really nice work... keep it up...

  • Wow, awesome! Thanks for making this!

  • great job lol so far best tut i found for it lol..but unless imn going blind i think u made her look red lol no big u did great 5 starts

  • she looks too pink.

  • @applecutie200

Want to see realistic colourizing check my gallery

  • im amazed at how simple it was to do that, and make it look really good.

    thanks for the tut.

  • first off, thank you. YOU made it easy for me to understand, AND I DID NOT KNOWN ABOUT LAYERS but two questions 1.if you were to make a mistake how do you correct them and is photoshop the easiest to work with. AND AGAIN THANKS!!!!!!!!!

  • ctrl+z my man

  • ctrl+alt+z will take to back a step photoshop i believe holds 20 steps correct me if im wrong lol..or u can bring up the history menu and select back to were u want..but u can still only go back 20 steps..and photoshop is a great tool its not that hard to use the only thing is their is so many ways to do things some people find it hard to memmer them all..which makes it seem hard...give it some time and u will grow to love it. there really is nothing that commpares 2 it

  • Thankyou so much - I have just coloured some of my Dad's old photos and they look great!

  • How do you use the razer tool?

  • eraser tool?

  • THANKS ! !!

  • at first i was doubtful but i caught myself saying "oh my god that actually looks good" lol nice work!

  • thanks so much its realy helped me :)

  • you always use jessica alba for your model...

    :D

  • Nice one, good tut for the time you had.

  • the guy in the picture kind of looks like colm meany from 3 and out

  • Thanks really helpful......

  • That was great! I used to select an area, then do a layer mask based on hue/saturation and colorize it. It took so much longer!

My only suggestion would be, instead of just doing image>adjustments>hue/saturation, I think it would be better to do a layer mask hue/saturation. That way if you need to add more color to an area, it is also affected by the tint.

  • What do you mean by layer mask hue/saturation?

  • how come all the guy tutorials have women with big boobs?

anywayy, it was helpful, thank you.(:

  • Haha, how many times did you say "oops"?

  • can someone please tell me how to color a specific image in a video, not a photograph or a picture ? what programme do i need , and is there any tutorials on tube . thank you .

  • He's not gay -.- he doesn't even sound like a gay, you're acting like a gay

  • okk i need help what brush do u use and the opacity or whatever!?? because whenever i color it colors over the black out lines!??? please helpp

  • nice!~

  • hi i cant put the color option in the blending mode do u know why?

  • just try this.

    1-close and open your image.

2-make sure to flatten your image.

3-make sure is in rgb and its on 8 bits not 16. ps. that was my problem i this is how i was able to fix it. and start process one more time. =) hope that helps. i am not a photoshoop genie so no haters please =)

  • if you did not need to know dont down him for what he does no one wont's to see your negative comments..!!

  • your a faggot he helped me you cunt

  • I've certainly seen better tutorials. I've viewed a few of yours, now, and I really don't think you're quite advanced enough in your own skill to be trying to teach others. =/

  • ty ty ty!! ive been looking of how to... capturate? is that was it was called? any way the contol U thing... so ty ty ty ty ty ty ty!!!!!!!!!

  • is that jessica alba?

  • yep's

  • no skill, no tips, no usefull tools used. This is not a tutorial : we loose a huge amount of time to look at someone badly brushing and than touching a little at the hue/saturation tool...

Seriously, it's the lvl zero of teaching.

For people looking for some "how to colorize" try to find a tutorial dealing with the curves tool.

  • thanks

  • thanks sir

  • 好我喜欢

  • thanks dude ..

  • it wont let me pick color on the damn blending options thing

  • Make sure your colour mode is set to RGB colour

  • thanks alot bcoz i jus got cs2 n m new 2 it thank yew^-^

  • verry easy ,,awsum man ,,thanx ..!!

  • i haventphotoshop

    :#(

  • awesome job!!

  • Great, not even what I was looking for but excellent vid.

Please do more! I will watch!

  • To make the colour look even more natural, lower the lightness. :)

  • Very simple and to the point, thanks for the tutorial!

  • Awesome... Very nice presentation dude. Keep it up.

  • i dont really like, how this tutorial was... i recomend to se IceFlow studios tutorial, no offense dude, but your tutorial isn't so good, ok.. But nice for the tray...

  • Jessica Abla with blue eyes? She is Mexican, and her hair and skin are brown.

  • If he wanted Jessica with her natural skin and eye shades, he could've just skipped recoloring her photo. Wait...then we wouldn't have this great tutorial...

  • Isn't she cuban?

  • Absolutely spot on! Clear, concise, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for your time. Looking forward to restoring some old family photographs.

  • your like in love with this pic use you it all the time

  • Nice!! Thanks a lot, I used this to restore black/white photographs of old family members!

  • A good Q&D way to colorize.

I am learning that on YouTube (at least in photoshop tutes) there seems to be a 'real time' culture, as NOT ONE of the tutes I have looked at has taken what I see as the basic courtesy, of doing a little video editing to remove boring, repetitive, predictable parts - but all, including this one, force you to watch each tiny step.

    Still, a valuable clip.

  • NICE.....

  • I wonder if god uses photoshop? lol, without photoshop... r world would have no color... DU DUH DUHHHH! =O

  • Evil use The Gimp.

  • Yep...

  • Yet again... You did a great job.

  • thank you very much

  • Great! Thanks.

  • There's the easier way to color the human...

  • Fantastic tutorial! Thanks

  • This person obviously doesn't know how to use Photoshop the PROPER way. Thousands will copy his wrong techniques... sad.

  • at lease he can, don't dis it cuz

  • i agree with his comment, he was just saying that the way this person does this isn't the best and/or fastest way.i could've done that in a couple minutes and now, because of this video, many people will do this in a way that may not be the best one.

  • thanks, really helpfull

  • i was lost the pacience try add color to my photos, good tutorial for begging ..thanks

  • great tutorial, tks

  • you are such a help i tried this....Its my first time and it worked....First time ever i was listening to a tutorial and I Got it that quick....

  • FIVE stars for this tutorial, Thank you very much the great help.

  • can someone give me a link to a video showing how to do it to objects instead of face.

  • this tutorial basic and the color isn't realistic at all. he didn't use variation of tone in the skin or hair. The skin on a person's cheeks is not the same tone as their arm or chest or feet, hair and skin are multi-tonal, containing browns, reds, greens, blues and yellows. please do not stop exploring the art of B&W colorizing here, you will limit the scope of your projects and artwork.

  • looks nice! thanks~

  • I like your tutorials, but to be honest, I've never even opened photoshop. In fact, I don't even have it. I just like to watch them because they calm me down.

  • rofl

  • Awesome thanx a lot

  • Bloody great. You're a star

  • This is probably one of the hardest tasks to do in photoshop but it was made a whole lot easier with this tutorial - i had many good feedbacks from family members saying thanks and i owe it all to this tutorial

Many thanks and keep uploading these great tutorials - you do a much better job than any other teacher on those dvds you pay $50 for just to learn how to create layers and such - Again Thanks for this great tutorial

  • argh thats comfusing i know how to spell im just to tired to right it out ok ok here confusing lol jk
