I have an 8in barrel Taurus 608, picked it up about 8 months ago, and since then I've still been looking, calling and more, just to find a decent leather holster. I literally tuck it in my pants sand it holds well because of the size, but you never know if it'll fall through or not. I'd like an open-bottom one, but man it's hard to find for a long barrel lol,
I was reading reviews that compared nylon and leather. I'm not a big fan of leather. It eventually wears out faster than nylon, it's more expensive and it just isn't comfortable for me. I went out and purchased 2 iwb holsters, one was nylon and the other wasn't. The nylon is by far more comfortable and concealed my firearm 10x better than my other holster and the leather holster I tried. I don't know why people are spending over 30 and 40 bucks on holsters. I'm beyond satisfied with mine.
You should never use a holster that wasn’t specifically molded for the carried weapon. A universal holster is fine to use within the range of intended use but a holster that is molded to carry a certain weapon should never be used to carry a different platformed weapon. Just my 2 cents.
Also, just something to think about; I use kydex as well as leather, and have had 3 different reputable kydex holsters crack on me (1 at the sight track and 2 at the belt attachment) two of which cracked during IDPA matches. Luckily it happened in places that weren't too embarrassing or inconvenient. Not trying to bash kydex, but my CCW will always ride in leather.
I understand you are trying to do an "unbiased" review, but quite frankly, the holsters you've showcased here are pure crap. No QUALITY leather holster will become a mushy flapjack like the holsters you've shown, unless they are abused (including being drenched with oil). I understand you might be a fan of kydex. I think kydex has it's uses as well as it's limitations, but to do a fair representation of quality leather, you really need to upgrade.
Silly question....am looking for a right hand , small of the back inside wasteband holster. Problem is I want one set up for left hand operation. Kind of hard to explain. If right arm is twisted around is more comfortable and easier to reach way back, but right had holster set up you would be grabing the hammer , rear sight. So, if positioned as left hand , could easily get firm grip. Thinking left hand holster may be wrong angle though. Any insight or does my question just not make sense?
@stealinator Have you ever seen one made this way? I think your asking about a holster on Small of Back that is right side up rather than upside down.
The black and brown holster you call Small of Back aren't actually SoB holsters, it's Butterfly holsters worn at the righ side of the pants (or left for left handed) Cool video btw!
I like the leather holsters for reguar carry, because they're more attractive. Nothing like a good looking matching belt, holster, mag holder and boots. My choice for a more tactical or combat situation is the BalckHawk Serpa.
The one thing about leather is it retains moisture in wet condition which isn't good for most guns.
stoner holsters makes great holsters . got my father inlaw one for christmas they make all kinds i know they make several for RUGER SP101 2 ''and 2 1/4''
are there any good full holsters for the xd tactical in a 45 acp. i was really looking for one that was leather, didn't have the barrel exposed at all like the end was sown shut.
@GLOCKSTEROC How long did you have the holster before you started to see wear on the slide? I am considering the MTAC because they have a good rep and they area local company. But I have also heard that leather holster will also cause wear and tear on they slide. The only holster that seem to cause less wear are nylon holster but they are not as good for retention as kydex or leather.
I am not looking to buy, but rather to make a holster and this was very helpful in seeing how to make them. Not exactly the point of the video, but helpful none the less. you do a very good job, keep it up.
At the beginning of the video you said you no longer use the small of the back holsters. What are the disadvantages of carrying a gun in the small of your back?
Man the first hybrid holster you showed was really good looking. I dont know if a leather holster is good cause unfortunately in my Country (Colombia) its forbidden for us civilians to have firearms, but those leather holsters are really nice to look at (theyre like western like holsters)
Thanks for your videos and excuse my english (its not my native language).
Also I believe the two Bianchi #5 Holster are more of a traditional Strong Side Behind the Hip Carry than an SOB (Small Of Back) Holster. IF you look at the angle of the third one and the hybrid one you show later you will notice they exibit a far more radical angle than the #5's, this alllows for an easy draw from the SOB Position where as the 5's would put your wrist at the wrong angle and require a more upward stroke. Still great informative vid, keep em comin, especially the long ones.
hey I like all leather holsters

@jvilla82688
No, they make all kinds of holsters

@GunWebsites What model is that aker? The DA?
jvilla82688 1 year ago
@GunWebsites Though, you can buy leather from a craft shop and build a pretty sturdy holster for any handgun. Its good to save for a rainy day

I got rid of my mtac the kydex was wearing out my glock's slide so now im in the market for the iwb leather holster any idea's?/
GLOCKSTEROC 2 years ago
the Tinifer on the Glock slide is one of the strongest materials around.. the black finish might wear off, but that is just cosmetic
I have a Don Hume IWB that I like, but I'm not sure the model

@anarchyrealm
Depends on the gun / finish
Honestly, holster wear is not an issue IMO

Whats the name of the holster that places the pistol under the armpit?
Seen it many times but never heard its name...

no such thing as a stupid question, so thanks for asking
I think you are talking about a shoulder holster
Many companies make them and there are many different models and styles
Not as popular with most people these days but sometimes they work well

Yes it was the shoulder holsters i was looking for. Thanks for your help.

do you think that a Glock 19 would be too big (thick) to carry in the waist band?
Kopis1911 2 years ago
nope, I know at least a dozen people who carry that way
GunWebsites 2 years ago
I carry a 23 (same dimentions as a 19) and I have no problems with it at all.

At the beginning of the video you said you no longer use the small of the back holsters. What are the disadvantages of carrying a gun in the small of your back?
Speed00007 2 years ago
I know this opinion is not shared by all, but since you asked..
#1 as you draw you usually sweep at least one of your own kidneys and / or your spine
#2 pretty much anyone can just walk up and take your gun before you can do much about it
#3 if / when you fall on it, your spine is in danger
#4 pretty useless when sitting in a car, or big chair, or soft char, or on bus, or...
well these were just off the top of my head, I think there are a few more
