check out my channel? im a 15 year old acoustic singer songwriter. I dont ask for you to subscribe or to like, i just ask for you to give me a chance and listen to some songs of mine?
I remember listening to this song many times throughout those long, dark nights having my own 2:45 in the mornings...being manic is one hell of a ride
@RealityGrapple Yeah I know. My point was just that he didn't seem like a man that would care to write a three word suicide note. Strikes me that he would write something longer and meaningful or nothing at all, in fact he didn't leave suicide notes when he tried to kill himself other times.
Really? That does sound like bullshit. No way Elliott would write that, considering his lyrical caliber, he was a poet, those words do not sound like his.
I don't remember any song where he mentions "god", even if one does exist, I would have severe trouble believing Elliott Smith to be a christian.
I must look more into his mysterious death, sounds like a pure hoax.
@Bendrix27 Sadly, Elliott is long dead. God-fearing or not, I don't think that it matters either way; an artist is an artist. He did grow up in Texas, though, so that may serve as reason.
@KafkaTheSongwriter How does growing up in Texas serve as a reason for his death? Unless of course you're talking about his upbringing(he had an abusive step-dad and a Mom that didn't really give two shits about him). If that's the case, I don't disagree; however, if he didn't move to Portland, he would have never formed Heatmiser and wouldn't have been famous, and who knows, maybe he'd still be alive today. His rough past a long with his sudden rise to stardom contributed greatly to his demise.
@KafkaTheSongwriter With that being said, I'd rather go out like Elliott did; would you rather die in your early 30's as arguably one of the best songwriters of our era, or would you rather live a long life without having an impact on the world like Elliott did?
I just had a listen to Elliott Smith's Either/Or album and I liked the background music of the song, as it was slow and calm. But apparently it's a sad album.
Can someone explain to me what this song meant? Also what happened to Elliott? I read on Wikipedia briefly that he stabbed himself after arguing with his girlfriend and that he was a heavy drinker, but that's all I know.
I'd like to know more, if anyone can explain to me please?
@KelvinYapXII He didn't necessarily stab himself. It was never discerned for sure whether or not it was suicide or murder, a lot of things point to it not being a suicide, but those are mostly inconsistencies in behavior, but when you're in the mindset to actually commit suicide you're probably going to say or do some things you normally wouldn't otherwise.
In any case I don't think it's right judge the man on something that may or may not have been by his own hand.
@seetroo Eh, he did get clean though. His life was just picking up when he died. Friends were called down to help with a new album, he got off drugs and stopped eating red meat and refined sugar, was really going healthy.
@VincentPrice111 ala jim morrison.....got clean right before heart failure in france, though his death was more related to years of drug use and an excentric lifestyle.....
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that moment at 2:35 when the bass and drums come in. The low-tuned bass just gets me every time.

@RealityGrapple It's certainly unusual that he would write a generic suicide note, among other things.
I just don't like people saying they know what happened for sure.
