If you really can't use an antenna outside a Slinky antenna stectched as much as possible along your ceiling would do okay! They have a GREAT selection on EBAY.
I have lived in an apartment for over 8 years. I guess I have to ask do you have a balcony? On Ebay you could get a fiberglass mast on your balcony and Run the Slinky along that??? This would only be good if you don't have neighbors upstairs. Another Idea is to just get a G5RV and string it from a tree outside,G5RV are nice antennas that do well for the money!
I park my car outside, throw a 10m extension antenna cable out my 2nd floor window and use a HF mobile antenna on my car with a magmount. Works brilliant. It's a SPX100 from Moonraker, not sure if you can get them in USA? You could always move your antenna closer to the window or as one guy said, throw a wire out the window with a balun and use a tuner!
hey go to ebay in look up a slinky antenna they run anywhere from $28 us dollars to I think the gold ones go for around $120 us dollars so try that their small in easy to tune a good amount of them will do 80-10 meters with a tuner in put it from one side of your ceiling to the other good luck 73's
Too bad you don't have a balcony. You could use a TAK-TENNA, since they are so compact (Google it). You could also use a 'STEPP-IR' mechanically extendable dipole, to cover any band between 20 and 6 meters. Or hand a PAR 'End-Fedz' dipole out the window, or going to another window horizontally mounted somehow. Of course, when 10m or 6m open up, you don't need much antenna or much power to talk far. You could literally stick a PAR 'End-Fedz' for 10m on a fishing pole out the window and talk.
8:30 at night dark outside and 20 meters is closing down, not going to be very many signals on 20 meters at night. Try 30, 40 or 80 meters at night. And try to put your antenna closer to a window or buy a mount to hang it out the window.
I would make a dipole. As close to a full wave as you have room for. You can string it along the ceiling. And at night you can hang it out your window and bring her in when your done
Hi im going to be in the same Predicament when i get my Technician Class License,im on the 2nd floor in a apartment also but i do have a Porch.
Also would the radio in the video be a good choice for a beginner? Another thing what class license will i need to talk to the ISS? Would i need General Class at min to talk to the ISS?
Another question for ya,now that Morse Code is no longer needed to pass the tests can i still take it at a later date? i mean Morse Code.
A mobile antenna + indoors = double compromise. Keep trying diff. things. MORE RADIALS, better grounding, put it near the window. Tune it with an antenna analyzer (borrow or buy) Try diff. wires / dipoles. Do what ever you can get anything outside, even if it's #30 wire.
Another friend of mine used to have a mount that he could put it out the window and shut the window down on the mount and that would hold it until he was done then just take it in for the night and the apartment people never said anything about it because it was not on the roof or attached to the building.
Thanks for subscribing to my channel. If you are limited for an antenna to be put up maybe you should buy an MFJ-1788X Magnetic Loop. I've sent you a link to a page with someone who uses one and the stations he has copied with it. Hope that helps.
do you have some windows? Try to put it outside on the window. i think it's better. also you can use magnectic balun on the window, with just 16 meter wire long.
Do you have access to the attic?? When I was antenna restricted in my 2nd floor apartment, I strung multi-band dipoles in the attic..

Cancer much???
If youre in an upstairs apartment, if throw a random wire out the window and tune it and use a balun. Maybe get an MFJ artificial ground?

build a loop antenna and run it around the celing of your apartment, right where the celing meets the wall. and use thumb taks to hold it up...

PUT IT NEAR THE WINDOW or IF YOU HAVE ATTIC SPACE TRY IT UP THERE - HEIGHT!
bill99959 3 years ago
Don't you have any space outside your window? A little metal rod is enough. Inside antenna is not really efficient..
