the new flick coming out 'Pirate Radio' is about the radio stn. where I first heard this tune, while on vacation with my folks. The year? Yep...summer of 1967.
I was 14 and this song stayed with me when we came back to Canada.
I often think about that boat full of wackos and now...a movie...about time
The musicianship of Les Fleur De Lys is miles better than anything being put out today. Talking of which, does anyone have the possibility of uploading Dream On My Mind by Rupert's People?
there's an article that kind of tells it how it was at the makingtime website. Rod wrote 'Reflections of Charlie Brown' before 'Whiter Shade' was written, however, due to the ever changing band circumstances (i believe) it was not released 'til just after 'whiter shade'. Hold On was also written by Rod
Ive got a great promo video for 'I Can Show You' that we put onto DVD for them at the time
stumbled across your video. we (exposure tv) had the pleasure of filming a 1 off Ruperts People gig back in 2006 for Ray Beverleys birthday. I also met Rod a few weeks later. All of this was amazin for me being a fan of theirs before hand anyway. Both are sound sound people, Ray even give me a bottle of his Wild Geese Whiskey!
thanks for your comment its nice to get feedback of this sort putting things together for us fans I alway,s liked this one from 67 not sure if it did indeed make the charts or not -trichoone .
Hi trichoone according to Wiki, Chris Andrews(musician)is the vocals on Charlie Brown and the band changed their name from Fleur de Lys to Ruperts People. Ive got this on my favourites and cant stop playing it. Thanks so much.
Very much like to hear Ruperts Peoples version. There was another really good band around at the same time called The Alan Bown Set. Dont know if anyone remembers them.
Just looked at your vids and spotted Mike Oldfield- On Horseback. Havent heard that in years.
Sorry tablelegs 27, that is incorrect. Fleur De Lys and Rupert's People were two separate bands. Chris Andrews, though, was lead singer of Fleurs for a time and he guested on two Rupert's People tracks, the other being Hold On.
There is a CD of Ruperts People available direct from Circle Records in the UK. It also features the original B side called Hold On, plus a different version of Charlie B

Cheers trichoone, thanks for posting this. It gets played on Sound of the 60's (Radio 2 on a Saturday) once in a blue moon but I've never managed to record it. I always thought is was a brilliant song (and after seeing the posted comments, it wasn't just me, then!). I have a feeling that it actually got to number 35 in the charts for a whole week! (but I could be wrong)
you are welcome Tom , can't remember were it got to in the charts its not listed in any books it possibly was in the thirties as you say . i dont think there are many of us about looking at the viewing level of this one , but i liked it -trichoone .
Rod Lynton - guitar/vocals, John Tout - keyboards, Steve Brendell - drums
Rupert's People was formed in 1967. Rod Lynton (real name Brosse) and Steve Brendell had been members of a North London band called the Extraverts who were said to be similar to the Kinks. The band split and Rod and Steve continued in Hard Edge although this did not last long. Ray Beverley joined on bass and Sweet Feeling started to rehearse, mostly with Rod Lynton's songs.
thanks John , i put this up thinking not many people would remember it and i think i was proved right by the amount of play's its had , i loved it at the time and looking back it wasn't a bad record was it and i will have a look at that link sounds interesting -trichoone .
never thought i'd hear this again - great group - had a couple of really good singles - i bought this when it came out - thnaks, looks like you have some other great stuff as well
oh and such a nice video rendition, by the way, trichoone....it's a great 'psychedelic blues' tune...isn't it?

Hi...
Does anyone else agree that Whiter Shade of Pale was ripped off from this..... as this came out months before Procol Harems....
I've heard the keyboard player wrote this then left & gave it to Procol....
