..he wasn't supposed to. standard form is ax+by=c, so there should be numbers before the x and y. (in the case of THIS problem the y had an assumed 1 in front of it)

plus, if he'd divided by 2 it would be x+y/2=2.5...which doesn't really work, especially because in standard form everything must be a whole number...

at school why is the standard form y=mx+c and there it is something like x+y=c

@mychannn standard form puts x and y on the left side of equations and numbers on the right. (x+y=c). Slope-intercept form is y=mx+c where m is the slope and c is the y-intercept if you plugged in 0 for x. Then there's point-slope form which is where this video started y-y1 = m(x-x1)

When i guess you cannot use the slope point form. Try a different Method.

@MrAngelpa M is the slope, so if M is undefined a way you find the slope without the graph is take y2-y1 divided by x2-x1. So you'd need the other point (a,b). I don't think you'd ever get a problem thats going to ask you what the equation is with 2 unknowns.
