@SPEAKTRUTHALWAYS They`re probably a fake, like the SF2 version video that runs around youtube. Too big sprites for a single Z80 cpu, too much memory involved, that can't fit the 128K, and of course, the fact CPC can't manage sprites itself, that means more difficult programming.
@Laoch111 yes we bought a colour monitor for £349 in March1985! I was 10! Paris Hilton was 4!....anyway strewth bruce it seems to me £349 back than must have been like £1000 right now?! my cousin was a pov, (poverty deprived) so he only got a green monitor for exactly £101 less! The machine was so fucking unreliable. in was fine in 94-85-early 86 when i couldnt fucking afford the £9.99 games. As soon as they started being re released for £1.99 and codemasters came along the machine packed up!
You basically proved yet again that the CPC could do a half decent conversion with good scrolling... Shinobi on the CPC was recently voted best 8-bit version on Retro Gamer Forums. It's a very addictive game, although I remember the main sprite looked and walked like he'd spent a stint in prison. Both the Double Dragon games you did were really cool, shame you didn't stick around longer.
A nicely done retrospective, friend. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of the YouTube community. I never had an Amstrad but this gives me a pretty good feel for its strengths and shortcomings.
I used to have a CPC 464 and i must say, it was the daddy of the time. Target Renegade, Shinobi, Renegade, Bruce Lee, IK+ and many games to list. It is the heretage of what we have now. It was a bad ass games PC.
I love these kind of vids. As a c64 owner, I remember looking at screenshots of the amstrad version of Renegade and getting jealous over how good it looked. It still looks good today!
lol....and in the mean time...... everyone was cpc kung fu fighting, there was funky sugarman with 2 cpc keybaords using them like a pair of nun chuckas on the c64s and speccys, he was fast as lightning it was quite frightening.... wooo hooo hoooo keeep on keeep on keeep on ..... :0)
Double dragon & final fight graphics look surprisingly faithful for an 8-bit system.

I wrote three of those games (Shinobi, Double Dragon 1 + 2) thanks for the fond memories. ;-)

Are you serious? That's cool! The scrolling on Shinobi always impressed me as CPC scrolling was usually crap.
thebunnyshed 3 years ago
Thanks! Optimising the scrolling was a couple of late nights and lots of coffee... nearly 20 years ago now! ;-)
