  • Has anyone recorded with this bass? Just wondering how it sounds, any help would be appreciated.

  • @hogwild6161 I think the female bassist for Silver Sun Pickups uses the Gibson Thunderbird..check out "Panic Switch"

  • @hogwild6161 Yes, my bassist has one. it sounds like crap. When we record bass, it seems that his Rickenbacker 4003 cuts through the nicest. Cheers

  • I play mine with a pick and with the neck plate around my belt buckle level, I drape my forearm over the bass. Totally comfortable and natural which holds the neck up acceptably. This is a good example of the basic sounds the bass gives and though it's not an obvious choice for slap it can do it quite well. It's a great bass and I look the bollocks onstage with it.

  • Shavos bass i think :o

  • @Storkez yeah Shavo uses this bass

  • I'm buying this bass because of Krist Novoselic

  • hahah you are playing one finger!!!!

  • I played this bass at Guitar Center just yesterday and I love it. It's actually really light (for me), much lighter than my Squier Jazz.

  • @arcademachines i have also a squier jazz and i want to buy this one.

  • what tuning is this in ???

  • I tried liking this bass but I just couldn't. Guess I'll always remain a Jazz Bass guy.

  • what do i need to attach my strap to my neckplate ?

  • @shagger67 there are several epiphone thunderbirds V

  • I'm a five string player,I have been for the last 15 years. This bass looks very appealing to me,do they make them in 5? thanks

  • @shagger67 i think so yeah but only the gibson above 700$ ones

  • @shagger67 they are actually only made by Epiphone, and cost 600 bucks.

  • @TheBassplaya14 gibsons IV thunderbird retails at 1799$

  • @shagger67 yeah they do, its called the epiphone thunderbird pro V

  • Ew, you can't slap on that bass. You just... can't.

  • @UhMysteryGuest slap is for everythong :P open mind man

  • I've always had problems with balance with any thunderbird bass. With that problem along with very little/no space to give room for popping although I have seen people popping just fine, for others the P finger always gets in the way of the pickup and that can hurt sometimes.

Other than that, there a fine bass.

  • I've always hated this bass. The strings are wounded too tight and the worst part is trying to slap on it.

  • I am not a fan of this bass, I wouldnt recommend it

  • is it really as big of a bass as people say i was thinking of geting 1 to start playing bass

  • @escapethisfate15 it's a great sounding bass, it's just the neck dive is really annoying.

  • @escapethisfate15 i just got one and i really like it. all you have to do is remove the strap button from the upper body and move it to the plate where the neck bolts to the body, and it will balance quite nicely

  • does it have much fret buzz?

  • How much does it cost?

  • I have a Thunderbird, and the neckdive doesn't bother me, just use your hands and lift it, it's not that hard (I didn't do anything special to the strap peg)

  • This bass is literally a pain in the neck... I have strap locks and even when I stand up the neck is always pulling you down.

  • i totally dig that sound like an acoustic funky tone how did you get it

  • After doing a song, I take a bow... and so does my bird!

  • gibson need to stick guitars, their basses suck, they just dont put as much care into them as their guitars.

  • My first thunderbird was alpine white in its first run. It was a flunk with the hardware and easily got cracks out of nowhere. then i used my friends custom shop sparkly blue thunderbird for a few shows, and it was a sick bass. they just seem to have a problem with the strap buttons.

  • how much ?

  • is this the standard thunderbird or the pro IV? the sunburst looks real nice here but it looks terrible on the gibson site

  • kickass bass

  • This bass seems like it would fit a pick player better....to me, it's a bit uncomfortable.

  • cool. ill buy it!

  • ya i own a epiphone gothic thunderbird, and its extremly top heavy, i love it though i got used to the neck dive, being the only bass i do now or have ever owned when i first started playing assumed all bass's did that haha

  • go the nikki sixx sounds real nice

  • is it good for flexible playing. i mean if you have a wide taste and want to play different style but most metal influenced. would it be a good choice inn that case?

  • @Jojkster no not really i have one myself and play in a metal band and i am now getting an ibanez which are more versatile.

  • cool bass gettin it for my birthday

  • is this a good bass?

  • @BelgianBass well it depends of what you want from the instrument, if you play rock it´s a good option but at the end it depends of the player

  • its good but alittle uncomfortable when you play, its heavy and has a long head stock, im selling might after having it for a year cause i nvr play it, im really more of a fender person. i think its alittle too "pretty" for me. its something like the fray and gay bands from today would listen to, im into 90s and 80s rock although krist noveselic uses them alot and nirvana is my favorite band lol

  • you do know nikki sixx from motley crue uses a thunderbird right?

  • Thunderbird Pro is a Nech-Thru bass...The one in this vid is a Bolt-On!!!

  • theyre all out of stock in the uk for some reason but i managed to find 2 shops in the uk left with new ones. You just need to look hard to find one!

  • Krist Novoselics bass!

  • Yes sir!

  • @boratslaya Krist Also used an Ibanez Black Eagle, a cool Jazz Bass Copy.

  • @boratslaya Krist also used Stingrays, Gibson Rippers, Gibson Artists and Thunderbirds more than he played Jaguars. However he is playing a jaguar in the smells like teen spirit video, so that's why people closely associate not only Krist, but many grunge musicians with that shape of guitar/bass. Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, and Kurt Cobain also used Jaguars.

  • @HyphyG123 krist never played stingrays... i'd love to hear where you heard that from.

  • @boratslaya krist had great taste

  • @boratslaya Are you sure? I thought he played a Gibson Thunderbird or sometimes a Fender Jaguar.

Honest question, not trying to play who's the biggest fan.

  • @boratslaya not always

  • anyone know where i can find this in red metallic for 199?

    any help is much appreciated

  • @bradleythebear17

Musiciann's Friend website; was looking at that just the other day.

  • funky playin but dont agree with the bending! sorry

  • could anyone tell me if this bass is good for slapping? like how will it compare to a squier standard J or P bass? thanks!

  • @Jimmmeeehhh not bery good for slap but would be better then any squire, best cheaper slap bass would be a fender jazz but thats around 598 dollars

  • nice thumb

  • that is a hot guitar

  • I own this bass limited edition custom shop In Alpine White with Black Nylon coated strings its pretty badass! id love a tbird pro tho or a real gibby

  • If you guys really like this, try out the Thunderbird Pro.

  • thunderbird pro is the same just finer wood a new colour and a extra £100.

  • im gettin the same bass but in ebony :)

  • What do you think, which one is better, this one, or the Nikki Sixx Blackbird version?

  • this one that the guy has in this video

  • i have one in the sunburst finish it is a very good bass just a little off balanced if get one get new strings stock are okay but i got ernie ball ones and i like those

  • i had one of those until it got stolen a month ago = =

  • i got one of those.

  • what is the model

  • THis bass is on my christmas wishlist but in silverburst finish

  • O.o... saim here =D

  • haha me 2 except for graduation

  • Ill be getting one soon. Apparently Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue) and Shavo (System of a Down) plated these. The pickups are ideal for slapping and plucking. Id highly reccomend one. (Ive played em, but dont own em)

  • I always found these a bit nose heavy. Have you ever found it badly balanced?

  • Yes, some move the strap peg. To the neck plate.

  • @IntellectualAmy yeah i agree they do tend to slide i only got mine yesterday and it has a very obvious neck dive. but apart from that i luv it its a great bass good sound!!!

  • isn't that body uncomfortable?

  • Not when you are setting, have not stood with one some talk of neck dive.

  • @Fredrockroll It is, terrible neckdive and heavy. Due to that it's very different to play than a more regular shaped (stratocaster shape) bass. It has an awesome sound and I love it soundwise, but I can't reach my full potential on it, due to the heaviness and neckdive. I am more agile on a bass with a slimmer neck and one that's lighter etc etc. I will be getting a 5-6 string, probably Ibanez. Awesome bass, awesome sound, but don't buy it as a beginner bass. Get your basics and techniques down.

  • nice man, this is amazing, i wana get one like that :)

  • how much are these in australia?

  • its actually $299

  • how much is the original price of that bass guitar?

  • Epiphone? Around 450$. It's a good bass for this price.

  • @stereo777sushi 300$

  • Please Answer these questions for me, someone who is about to buy this bass:

How is the solo'ing on the high end? Can you hit 19 on the g easy? Does it give you a groove kind of feel? And if you were on stage, and a pretty big head banger, would you think this bass will work for Metallica type of thrash? A big meaty tone if possible?

Get back to me a.s.a.p. thanks.

    It's a lovely bass..

  • I play the epiphone goth thunderbird in a hard rock band/metal band and it sound amazing. In fact it kicks out so much low end even with the tone knob on 10 that I have to lower my volume when I use someone elses amp. It just has this natural volume boost to it. That said I have owned 2 epiphone basses and had neck issues, but they can be adjusted.

  • they work for alot of styles, but yes they work for thrash. If you have heard of Annihilator (if not look them up) they use these live and in the studio.

  • my friend has one but he sold it. I played it a couple times. I found with the right distortion it can sound great. I'm gonna get this when I have enough money :) good luck bassing

  • You will be fine as long as you doing go over the 18th. And yes this bass has more meat than a deli.

  • System of a down's bassist Shavo has one

  • they probably can't go to the 19th fret easily

  • well i would say the goth is better because it has a mahogany body like the gibson while this one has an alder body, like fender basses.

  • what they mean by active or passive?

  • if it's active or passive electronics + pickups. Active needs a 9volt battery, sometimes it needs two batteries but it's not so common. and active pickups gives more and higher sound than passive.

  • can somebody please tell me if these basses are active or passive?

    thanks

  • passive

  • Passive.

  • no battery's needed, so passive. very good bass for the price

  • Great sound !

  • I now see where GC, Sam Ash and the rest are offering the Epiphone T-Bird Pro for sale ($499.99) on their web sites. Any chance you'll be doing a review on one soon? Thanks.

  • Any bass, any place, any time, i will be makin a vid. When i meet up one, she's mine. Thx!

  • Uni, did you ever play one of the Jackson T-birds? It's great to have these vids of yours, as you find so many interesting basses - would also be great to get your comments on the main contenders!

  • Pedulla 5St Buzz/Modulus Quantum 5/Fender Custom Shop /Music Man Bongo /MTD Kingston The Z 5st /Tobias/Rickenbacker/Benavente . I rock a Treker Pro Star 5, handmade in the US. Want to play, Alembic/Brubaker/Conklin/Foder a/Wal/Zon. Really any 5st bass that i can play. Great ?,Thx!

  • High end handmade bass in my area, are hard to come by. Above is the best of what i have played to date. And i also own a 56 and 66 fender, that i think very highly of.

  • Top call on the Pedulla - awesome work! I enjoyed the Bongo, but was all ready to not like it.

I still love the 5st Stingray - I just need longer hands! :D

  • annoyng songs

  • i was wondering about the brige, i know that you can ajust it but what will happen if i do?

  • Is it pluged?

  • i'm getting this bass in silverburst :D it also seems to have a really nice sound to it.

  • na the sound is pretty average. Check out Warwick. They are just amazing, and are pretty cheap aswell/

  • Cheap? Lmao

  • warwicks cost a fucking arm.and i hear they aren't very comfortable

  • they do, and they aren't.

  • Warwick Vampyre= around 5,500$

    cheap, are you high?

  • in my retrospect if u ad i lot of HIGH you can play alot of metal witch is is kinda weird for epiphone

  • I own a below squire p-bass and will probly get this next. Unfortunately it only comes with black hardware. Im trying to go with the entwistle look and want chrome. Anyone know where i can find one? Awesome bass though

  • Y'know, I love the sound of Epiphone tunderbirds, but it really sucks when someone says a "proper gibson" thunderbird. Honestly, they're two different basses. And you can say what you want, but paying for a gibson is just paying for a name. Epiphone all the way. (squire's the execption to the brand-name rule. they just plain suck except for the chosen few like their fretless jazz.)

  • Actually there is a difference, the Gibson models have a nech-through construction, whereas the the Epiphone models have bolt-on necks.

And the squire CV and VM models are very high quality.

  • I played this last week, a possibility as my next bass but im looking more at a jaguar

  • Same here.

  • i have the exact same bass and it is fuckin awesome!!!!!!!

  • my next bass sept im gettin it in white!! :)

  • congrats, hey saw a blue one last week on a video seemed cool, white one's cooler though.

  • I've never seen an Epiphone Thunderbird in white...

    I've seen Tokai in white...

    And a proper Gibson one.

  • you cant get a white epiphone thunderbird in white only gibsons wich are thousands of dollars more.

  • Yeah you can get an epiphone Thunderbird in white! It's a limited edition in Alpine White... do a google image search if you don't believe me!

  • yea the white is cool

  • Sorry i thought he said pro.

  • there the same bass really the normal one looks better (my opinion) , the nikki sixx one is awesome if you like the goth look and theres a new thunderbird pro that should be checked out, all epiphones

  • oh man, those thunderbird pros look soooo fucking sick.i cant wait to try them.

  • but that is not a tbird pro! the tibrd pros have:

    1. a black pickguard

    2. active electronics -> 4 potis

    3. another bridge

but omg what could be better than a tbird with 5 strings^^ i am relly looking forward to trie one out
