Enfin une soirée avec de vrais décors, des costumes crédibles et somptueux, bref: de l'opéra et non pas les horreurs que les metteurs en scène actuels nous imposent. Qu'ils bûlent en Enfer! Voix idéales (à part FRENI). INOUBLIABLE SOIREE
Thanks for posting. I only watched this 3-rd rate performance (and this is an understatement) because I loved the glorious costume of the king. And the set is good, the windows, etc.
Isn't this what Verdi is supposed to sound like? I first heard Ernani when I was a kid in NYC - the cast was Franco Corelli, Cornell Macneil, Cesare Siepi and Martina Arroyo. Compare that to what we have nowadays!! No, better not - it'll just makes us all start crying.

And what of even earlier versions - such as with Bergonzi and Price ...Bruson especially in this scene is mesmerizing! He understands his glory - and he captures vocally what magnanimous means... BRAVISSIMO!!

La Scala a réuni pour cette soirée les meilleurs artistes de l'époque dans ces rôles. Une soirée à marquer d'un pierre blanche.
