Even we, the U.S. consider Russia to be a superpower. Nobody would dare go against either of our countries in a conventional war.

China, though they are growing, are still not considered a superpower. Our GDP is still larger than theirs, and our military FAR superior to theirs.

It's possible to be in a lot of debt but still bring in the most money in the world, which is what we do. We only owe China $3 trillion, which is a relatively small amount compared to the total debt. We're not in as bad a condition as many people think

Also, Macroeconomics. Too much money is in flux in this country. It's TOO BIG to fail. If the U.S. economy goes down, the world economy is fucked. We bailed out Europe + banks.. why? Too big to fail. Can't allow it

The truth is Russia is a very powerful superpower, just as strong as the United States, especially in military. The difference is that since World War 2, Russia hasn't been in a major conflict, to visibly show its power. The United States, however, jumped from one war to another, showing its power to the world, possible intentionally to showoff. Many people don't know this, but China and India are both reaching that same superpower level of the US and Russia.

All it took was Russia saying they don't like US plan of deploying missile defence systems in Europe, for US to cancel their plans. Russia's military is still strong, you just don't see it, because they aren't like US, going to war just to show off their power.
