  • Wikipedia says Donald George Fisher (567-22-2326) founded The Gap on AUG. 21, 1969. On the 48th anniversary of this date (8/21/17) the United States will experience it's first total solar eclipse in more than three decades. Considering the 1981 split, the 42nd anniversary of the date was marked by the passing of a notable "new beginnings" teacher. Fisher died on 113th birthday of U.S. Sen. Samuel JAMES erVin (D-NC; 578-52-3300), who died in Winston-Salem, NC 8,923 days earlier on April 23, 1985

  • I can relate to the guy who speaks at 1:56. Now, when I encounter people who shun me for being gay or irreligious. I ask them: How can you have such a negative idea about God? The Bible is just a book among many. God loves everybody, very much like a mother loves her baby. He didn't make a hell for disobedient people, and he doesn't hate gays or anybody else.

  • how come i see no banana republic employees! REPPIN THE BR

  • Thank you Gap. I am not gay, but believe all those alphabet people should have equal rights and total acceptance. I respect the Gap Corporation for supporting this initiative.

  • yay el señor que habla español yay ! eso latinos ! jajajaja ok adios bye

  • I work at Gap and I'm bisexual. I couldn't be more proud of being both a Gap employee and a member of the LGBT community.

  • GapInc? More like GayInc.

  • @pauleau fail troll is fail. sit down noob.

  • @Nekiroa

Sit down? Well, at least you're not asking me to bent over.

    *BA-DUM-TISH*

  • The poor guy at 1:54! I am so sorry that christians made you feel that way. Yes the bible says being gay isn't the best idea, but it describes it with the same greek word used for other sins like adultery and pride. Those adults were probably trying to make themselves feel better about their sins by shouting about yours.

God loves you, no matter what you do, even if people don't

  • (:

  • We should do a It Gets Better for the sweat shop folk, thats right, I went there, lol

  • @hayeloma100 i have a better acronym GAP.....Gays Are People.....we are people...and your comment is played out and so under thought...of course they are gay...we know that no one needs you to clarify all because it took you a while to figure out what they were talking about...i mean really? no h8....and get over yourself...you thank it cool or funny to post things like that....well it's not..it's stupid and a cliche

  • @Arcanetheory7 very well put :)

  • @MrXenitha XD

  • @Rrainbowlina: it's amazing for anyone to have the courage to speak out! Yes, many companies are participating, many movie stars, etc... thanks be to all who have the courage to speak up... its not about who put out the better "it gets better" video...

  • I WILL BE A GAP CUSTOMER NOW FOREVER :)

  • Ok those earrings on the guy at 1:58 are absolutely horrible!

  • LOL, I thought this was going to be how life gets better AFTER being a Gap employee!! LOL

  • Wow, go GAP!

  • Chris is a Damn Hot Cutie

  • This is so encouraging! I work at a Banana Republic. So proud of our company for making this video.

  • So I searched it gets better and got apple, adobe, Pixar, google and then I saw gap and I started cracking up!! Haha

  • @acurcuru22 umm....thiss funny how

  • @bigcraig03

Oh, god shared it with you? Then I should believe you, and it must be true, right? Because anybody claiming to have information from a supernatural source automatically must be telling the truth, right? Just like when Muslims tell Christians that they know through God that all non-Muslims are going to hell. Same thing, right? You believe the Muslims, don'cha?

So your very specific god-given instructions as to how gay people should behave? Oh, my, yes. Let's all listen up.

  • we commit suicide because we ARE alone in our town. No one seems to understand or to sympathize. I cant take any more of this. In reality..... I am just a mistake.I hate waking up... I hate going home... I hate falling asleep at night to nightmares. I hate being made fun of. They all tell me god hates me. i think about suicide every day. there isnt a moment of my life i dont spend wanting to hurt myself.

  • @wild2dreamer No. You're never alone. Look at all these people. They've grown up like you, and they do understand. You're not the only one. In the end... It's your choice. But it would be a terrible loss... When there's so little possibility that you'll be born and you were... Don't you think you ought to use it?

  • LOL Im wearing a GAP hoody right now...i wear this hoody everywhere...i hide behind it =(

  • @Gapinc

    Ciao Amici!

Once again I find myself having to express my pride, at having grown up and still reside in the San Francisco Bay Area! Though long ago, this did not prevent a boy I had loved (Bobby Griffith/Prayers for Bobby) from taking his own life. Though I've said it before , I need to repeat, that he and I hoped for a better world, but never could we have imagined a corporate work environment, where queer (LGBT/gay) people and their supporters could speak openly!

    Grazie

    Blaine

  • How come I didnt hear about this campaign and I've been working for Gap for 3 years??

  • 1:18 in and still no mention of the word "gay" or "lesbian" or "trans" or "queer."

1:40 in, still nothing. 2:06! Finally! And it's only in quoting homophobes.

I know this doesn't seem like a big deal, but saying these words out loud in a positive context is a really important piece in learning to accept yourself. Hearing someone say, "I'm gay and it's awesome" means a lot. And when people avoid it, it seems like shame or pandering to bigots.

  • I've learned a lot in this video. I learned that I shouldn't depend my happiness on other people's judgements, and that I should just stay true to myself and learn to love myself first., before anything else.

  • It does NOT get better when it comes to LOW WAGES with Gap Inc. We're all glad that Gap Inc. supports people like that, fine what else is new? Nice advert, btw. Money money money! What about the wages, Mr. Glenn Murphy? Your wages have not changed in years while you make way too much money per year yourself on cheap clothing for high prices ...that are made in China. SHAME ON YOU! I have a vid about my experience with the Gap. Click on my name, and if you agree, please pass it on. cheers

  • thank you

  • Because of things ike this, I am very proud to be an employee of the gap.

  • This is sooooo bullshit! I worked at Gap for 5 years! During which I have seen them target gays firsthand! Working there I would have never believed they were pro gay!! LOL! Not the Gap I know! I'm not gay either by the way! Nothing against it though! Yeah I busted my ass there unloading trailers for 5 fucking years until my back fuckin quit on me! Never been pushed harder in my life! Hated every fucking day there until they bullshit fired me for having to go on workmans comp! FUCK GAP!!

  • I love my Gap!

  • Nice touch to include the Spanish speaker. Gracias!.

  • Congratulations on this wonderful anthology of messages of hope for suicidal gay or putatively gay kids. I am 58yo. I was never bullied or abused as a kid, but was suicidal for different reasons, still related to sexual orientation.

My attempt via carbon monoxide poisoning did me a lot of damage after an impossible recovery from brain death, but if I were now to talk to myself as a 22yo then i would show the love, support and opportunity I have been given in abundance. It got so much better.

  • The GAP isn't know as Gay and Proud for no reason!

  • Pepsi (Taco Bell, Pizza Hut), Abercrombie and Fitch (Hollister), Ben & Jerry's, Google (YouTube & Countless others), Facebook, Urban Outfitters, and now Gap Inc has openly supported the gay community. I know I've missed many corporations, but still, I'm so proud of these big powers for coming out and standing up for what's right, and for helping us move forward.

"If God had wanted me otherwise, He would have created me otherwise." - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe.

  • Kudos to Gap for posting this. Several viewers have suggested this is a marketing move; I don't agree. Viewers: yes, it gets so much better - but you don't need to wait. • I am such a proud employee of Gap inc!

  • @captainpanic08 I work for Gap, Inc and was part of the video, and I can tell you that no one -- from those making it to those approving it -- intended it to be used for commercial gain.

Yes, we are in business to sell apparel, but we also want to do good in our communities - for customers, employees and to honor the legacy of our founder.

We used our logos at the end to emphasize for kids that everyday, familiar brands support them and this cause - much like Obama used his brand in his video.

  • The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is to love and be loved in return.

The dumbest thing you'll ever do, is to hate those who love different to you.

  • Major kudos to the Gap and their amazing employees for participating in this campaign!

  • I work for Old Navy (GAP)... and I couldn't be more proud to be an employee.

  • @dreadstuff You work for an amazing company! You SHOULD be proud -- and let your superiors know that their corporate leadership and contribution to this project is greatly appreciated and did not go unnoticed!

  • @dreadstuff

I also work for Old Navy, and I feel EXACTLY the same way. :) i'm posting this to my facebook.

  • @dreadstuff Me too! I work for Gap Outlet and love it!

  • I'm Shoping at Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic now! I'm not just saying this either i really and going to shop at their stores more

  • Wonderful example of corporate leadership. Thank you!

  • Even at 52, being totally comfortable in my own skin, this video brought me to tears. Thank you so much for putting together such a simple and powerful message to those who might benefit from watching. Bravo!

  • This is an amazing company to work for. They have a great anti-discrimination policy and even during orientation this is expressed over and over.

OLD NAVY, GAP, BANANA REPUBLIC, PIPER LIME!!!

  • @jpence80 That is amazing to hear. I've always loved The Gap but never knew they were such an awesome company! Major kudos to their corporate leadership who are not afraid to stand up for what is right.

  • This made me cry. Seriously, I've lived beyond high school and the bullying but this still speaks to me as a gay man, that despite the years, I still need to be reaffirmed and reassured.

  • I applaud those who share their stories and hope it really connects to those who need to know that they are not alone. This is outstanding!

  • this is awesome! kudos t Gap for doing this!

  • OUTSTANDING.

  • YAY GAP! I'm shopping there for Christmas presents!

  • @lelandpmorrill This is exactly why they made the video in the first place.

  • @captainpanic08 No, it's not. I work for the Gap. No one once mentions The Gap. No one once waves around the Gap logo. No one talks about anything else other than the message they are portraying to kids who feel alone. If someone wants to shop there, let them. No one in this video is forcing them to. It just means a lot to them that a world wide known company isn't ashamed to support LGBT. Gap also supports a lot of other non-proft organizations.

  • i used to work at the gap! there were a surprising number of gay people. it was awesome!

  • Hey, they should come to our store. Banana is way more fancy

  • Love It. GAY PRIDE

  • Milk was not our nation's first gay politician. There were two openly lesbian politicians who were elected to state offices before Milk. Don't do them the injustice of forgetting them or chalking up their remarkable accomplishments to nothing.

  • fuck religious people

  • This is beautiful. Thanks Gap.

  • Thank you all!

  • i love u gap!!

  • awesome!

  • <3 Gap & <3 LGBT & <3 this video!

  • @captainpanic08 It's amazing that a big corporation such as the Gap would be supportive of gays. It takes guts for a corporation to come out in support of LGBT issues and it's not all about the promotion of gap here. The bigger picture is what's important here: A supportive message to the LGBT community from a big corporation that supports it. Times are changing. I want to give them a high five!

  • @rainbowlina I agree! After what Target and BestBuy did, we haven't seen many big corporation behind LGBT community. I'm glad that Gap stood up unlike other companies.

  • @rainbowlina But lets be real. Gap is pretty gay. As is Banana Republic. lol loves it.

  • @rainbowlina Actually, The Gap has been from it's beginning. (Maybe it's San Fran home where it started bled into their corporate culture progressively.) They were the first big corporation to sponsor AIDS walks, offer domestic partnership benefits (which is in hindsight silly because they do everything they can not to offer any of their employees benefits) but the gap has always been a great company, not just with gay issues.

  • @rainbowlina Not that amazing. Apple, Google, Pixar, and tons of others have released similar videos of their employees. YouTube it up. Great stuff out there.

  • @rainbowlina iS THAT TRUE? i THOUGHHT THEY would just hire whoever? Maybe I am missing something.

  • @zoeydebra Nope all people in these videos are people who work for the company, well I am pretty sure anyway :D because it would be pointless to hire a bunch of people and put them in it because that would show they aren't supporting it but just wanted to make a video...if that made sense, if it didn't sorry I confuse myself and others all the time xD

  • @captainpanic08 If this video keeps even one kid from despair and suicide, then I don't care it they tattoo the Gap logo on all the employees' foreheads and offer a 30% off coupon in the video -- it's a great thing. I wish I'd seen something like this when I was in high school.

  • @jhanasik Am I? What am I missing?

  • @captainpanic08 I'm the guy in the gray shirt and suspenders, in case you were wondering. I am definitely NOT ashamed.

  • @just1guy Haha, everyone on Towleroad was talking about how hot you are.

The truth is that companies, and massive corporations in particular, don't do anything without some sort of financial reasoning. Would they really have spent money on film equipment if they weren't expecting a return? Would any company part with any money at all if they weren't expecting to profit monetarily or in reputation? I absolutely guarantee that at some point people discussed it. Someone sat and chose those logos.

  • @just1guy You shouldn't be ashamed for what you've done, it's a great thing. I just think it's sad that companies always see fit to exploit these things. If the Gap had nothing to gain from branding this video, if they were being truly charitable, they wouldn't have done it. For a start it would have saved the time of someone in the publicity department.

  • @captainpanic08 The only thing I can do is suggest that you do something, such as a video, to spread awareness on what you believe. I do get what you're saying. Since the dawn of time companies have been trying to beat out their competitors by using techniques to get people to buy their merchandise. It's simple economics. But even if that were the case here, this video is getting many people happy and positive about what's been going on. And unfortunately, that doesn't matter to you.

  • @just1guy I never suggested anything of the sort, and to be honest I resent the implication. It the message of the video meaningless because it's been used for brand awareness purposes? Of course not, and I agree with every word said in it. Does the video seem somewhat disingenuous, or at least lose moral integrity because of it? Sadly, I think so. At the end of the day, they could have left it at 'Gap Inc.' They didn't, they added another five logos. What other purpose could that serve?

  • @captainpanic08 Your cynicism is very disappointing. Did it occur to you that their management team contributed to this campaign (& asked many of their employees to do so) because they were genuinely helping a worthwhile cause? As evident by the comments posted by several past & present Gap employees they have one of the strongest anti-discrimination policies in the US -- which isn't publicized or mentioned in the video. They have those policies in place because it's the right thing to do.

  • @Gamec0ckGrad Of course it's a worthwhile cause. It's also an exercise in branding.

  • excellent

  • Awesome!

  • hearts from down under, LTB!!!!!!!

  • Great message. And this is a fabulous production, Jason!

  • i'm so proud of you Jason!

  • Wow Rob! Way to go!

  • Love it! Go Gap!
