No new oil rigs have been built since 1976. It takes around 20 years for a refinery to turn a profit. 2 possible reasons for this. It's NOT regulations. 1st reason is they are trying to drive down supply to drive up costs (there is a memo of an oil exec stating so). OR 2 they are aware by the time they can turn a profit on the refinery there will be no oil to justify it. I think its a combination of the two. No New Large oil fields have been discovered in 40yrs. All oil countries are in decline.
We should utilize our available resources, so by all means, drill.
We need to funnel far more money into alternative energy resources.
Don't imagine that this oil is going to make any huge price difference. some say there is 16 blln gallons in the ground, that will last the US about 14 years tops. But with the increase of demand on the world market, prices will still rise since we will still need to import more than %50 of our oil.
Getting off our dependency on overseas oil will take 10 years. Do you want to keep paying $4 a gallon for the next ten years or do you want to drill for oil?
Mccain is a huge scam, he's another George Bush, voting for him would be like committing an even bigger crime than any person could commit in the history of crime. If you like your gas prices high, and you like keeping troops in Iraq, and you enjoy having to fork over more money than you actually make, with no hope of the economy ever recovering vote for Mccain. I think if Mccain is somehow elected I'll move to Canada, because America will really suck if he becomes president.
Developing our resources will help. Even if it does not lower prices, we will have a more secure national defense as there will be more oil in the US. Development of our resources will provide good jobs for Americans. Oil we sell abroad will reduce the trade deficit. There are no negatives in this. As long as we improve the technology for other resources such as coal, nuclear, hydropower, wind, solar, etc, DRILL ALSO! Why Obama or any Democrat would be against drilling makes no sense.
"Why Obama or any Democrat would be against drilling makes no sense"
Number one, we will never be able to export. We consume WAY too much.
More importantly...
Consider the fact that you prolong dependency. Not to mention tie yourself into a market that is about to fail as demand goes sky high. "More oil on the way" sends a message to the rest of the world to start developing more gas-ran luxuries so by the time we get a drop from our own rigs, we wont even be able to afford it.
that's right, give big oil exactly what it asks for to say thanks for screwing us. Please put it in deeper next time. NOONE BELIEVES YOU ANYMORE CROOK BASTARDS
We need oil for most of our transport for at least another 15 years. Battery tech and elecrolysis is at least that far off for most and certainly major transport issues. Natural Gas would be a good local transport fuel and electrical plant fuel, as will wind and solar but combustion fuesl are still the best. Nuclear will help electrical production but not ease trnsport fuel demands. Like it or nt we need increased oil prodiction and refinement for next 2 decades, all things considered.
Has anybody thought of this.....in ten years the population would have grown, so even if we drill here drill now, we wont see one cent in savings. WE NEED TO GET OUR ASSES OFF THE DEPENDENCY OF OIL!!!!!!!!!!
Obama goes from manchurian candidate to the most 'frequently updating candidate'.
Even though he changed his tune for the better its clear Obama only does what polls suggest he do and then tries to say thats what I said earlier ==> yeah right.
ALERT: This is a person willing to be dishonest to make a political point. If it were a "Who flip-flopped the least" contest Obama would already have the nomination.
When we start drilling and other developing countries manufacture more gasoline cars because of our future supply, wont we be back at square one by the time we get the first drop of oil?
Lastly... how much support have you gained for drilling by not disclosing the details?

I hate campaigns.
Oil independance is a pipe dream, at best.

PLEASE research this issue!
We would consume ALL of the gas pumped. It wouldn't lower prices. It would prolong dependency of a sinking ship.
Ultimately, pumping that oil now will increase price as the stockpile goes down.

Hey McCain,
What is the whole truth?
Will the oil belong to only the US?
Or is it a global product?
Will we take "our oil" off that world market?
Or is that a myth?
When we start drilling and other developing countries manufacture more gasoline cars because of our future supply, wont we be back at square one by the time we get the first drop of oil?
Lastly... how much support have you gained for drilling by not disclosing the details?
