Am I the only one who cannot stand pop versions of the Toccata and Fugue ? Technically, no problem, but please don't destroy something that was written perfectly...
@meryldepp No you're not... Thank you for posting this, i thought i was the only one here with this point of view & was a bit desperate of this... e_e'
how can such a talented player (that necessarly must have loved music basically) can play (brilliantly though for her part) a pure masterpiece on that awful crappy cheap-pop backing orchestration that should never have been even thought... such a terrible waste!... It could have been perfect with a REAL orchestra playing REALmusic behind instead of that shit...That is just like eating caviar with mustard & ketchup... +_+'
@ThePillowBoyfriend I think it's very interesting listening to classical pieces played in ways that were never played before. that's called diversity!
@Icegal1st Diversity is a good thing when it gives something more to the piece (some already did good things this way), but it is not the case here... it's just "something different to do something different" & it's totally cheap & useless...
Her skill and talent are vastly superior to Vanessa Mae that is clear and she had me right up to the moment when she turned this into disco music. I would have loved to hear her complete this as a classical piece. Right up to that point I was on the verge of tears. Then my ears started bleeding. This is like painting a beautiful picture then when your about 1/3 of the way in you shit on it.
She is the most amazing and inspiring woman!!! I am a pianist and I know the feeling of the look on her face...it's heaven while she performs. God did indeed bless her. Carry on Linda!
a girl who could have made a fortune modelling without ever picking up a bow became one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. but she sweated blood for it.
Search for Maxim Vengerov's version.. He is easily the superior violinist. It is unaccompanied and a full performance, not a simple thing like this. He doesn't need parts behind him to cover up the difficult sections nor cut half the notes. ;-)
@Mecinimi Maxim is one of the rare real virtuoso violinists in the world, so obviously there is no comparison. But then again, there is no comparison between Linda's and Maxim's performances either. Linda's is a mix of classical and popular music (her only one of that kind), while Maxim's is just classical. I like both :)
A wonderful woman, a beautiful woman. She may not be regarded as the best but to me she is better than the music she plays. She makes it better! The depth of her emotion is in her bow. Simply my favorite musician and thats saying alot!
Does anyone here knows a violin song that was on Billboard's 1996 top 100 or even on Billboard's greatest hits (1996) tape. (it was on MTV back in these days)
it's like an orchestra but there's only the violonist (a woman) playing.
@Finlandia999 Vanessa Mae is a Well performed Violinist. Her music is great, and usually makes an astounding performance on every peice she does. I believe she is Thai and Chinese
I love how she has taken classical music up a notch and modernized it or perhaps how should one say gave it a bit more zest to reflect the times. Not many can play inbetween the genres so well as Linda does. I have listened and love Banessa Mae also but lean toward Linda's style more......great talent and indeed delightful musician.
Actually the real composer did this piece ages ago. And it doesn't matter about who did what why when and where all that matters is what style of music rendition seems to touch you the most. Who's music seems to be alive with their style and who's seems to be more complancent. I still vote Linda. And guy's let's try and keep looks out of the equation lol. I believe these ladies are trying to be reconized for their music not the looks although being beautiful doesn't hurt..;)
She is a delightful musician, and I am glad she agreed to do this pop version of Bach's famous Toccata and Fugue although she is fully trained in classical music and generally does not mix classical and pop music. I guess she thought 'why not' as this piece already had such a major status in pop culture, too.

But this not only Toccata and fugue in d minor. It is also some kind of 'potpur' of Bach's brabdenburgers

Much less noise that Vanessa, you can actually hear every note. Bravo! Well done.
