@anita22859 that is a good set list, how about String of Pearls as well? I am really finally appreciating this music, I was a paid critic but it was not of my era. all the old guys said give it another try, as usual they were right......new bio of Glenn must read for musicians and HUGO 3=D a must see movie for all.
I was trained in classical and a real punk rocker, but the older generation said give it another listen, I am really learning to love this music.....it took me time. for me it is not dance music as it was for them, but I do love the complexity of the lines.....and Glenn Miller was a great american hero of that time. new biography.....Thanks Glenn.....I get it now........
@BruceRTalbot Well I gave you a thumbs up, But this music was set in a time when you wanted to be with your sweetheart as long as possible on the dance floor after all you did just pay a quarter for the door, Ladys got in free. So slow was best. and a coke was a nickle then. Second it had to be able to raise the spirit, those times were in a nut shell not so much fun. Faster yes for todays kids, for us oldies fast is no fun.
@BruceRTalbot one thing I learned seeing one of the last big bands live when I was a paid critic, this music was LOUD. as loud as rock and roll when played live. it took me time to appreciate it but I get it now. and after reading the recent bio of Glenn Miller, I see the heroic time that went with it.....all genres of music are good.
I love this kind of music, I sadly was not around when this music was popular and no one I know my age even knows who Glenn Miller is, but this is REAL music and listening to this music brings me back to an America I wish I knew.
My mother was a BIG fan of Glenn Miller. I remember listening to the 78 RPM records she had of his music. God bless her she has been with the Lord for 20 years.

in the 70's I found this record at a flea market, my moms fav song. I got it, & said I had a surprise as I walked to the record player. She demanded to know what it was. I said its a surprise, she said if its " String Of pearls" dont play it.I didnt. She said, I just cant listen to it .I NEVER saw her listen to it. When I hear the song today, I wonder what memories it held. So personal, so private.. my dad? an event?Or just the best time of ones life forever gone. Oh, The power of music!

This kind of music is what separates the crowd from the real music lovers. As few as there are, Glenn Miller was one of the musicians who wrote what he wrote because he loved music. Not because he wanted to make music like rubbish we have to listen to most days
Great to see this here. My dad wrote this. "Pearl"s refers to pearl street in East Boston where my dad was from, Jerry Gray, and our Italian family lived mostly on this street during the depression and after. Thanks,
What I love about this kind of music is it leaves everyone feeling really great. How can you be mad or depressed or whatever, with this kind of music in the air. THAT takes talent. We oughta know THAT, these days.

Family is the most important thing you can have. My GG and Grand Parents are still a part of my life and will always be. BTW, thats so cool (about how you were able to spend so much time with your loved ones)
@RubberDuckiesUnite21 Family is as family is, just enjoy the memories of the past and love your future. I was fortunate to live in a multi generational home. Most are not, the old people are not a problem they are a door to the past and in a way to the future. So " Crank up the old Brass" as GG said and play the music my friend. Life is a smorgasborg so eat and enjoy at lifes table. Remember, most people are starving to death with a lack of life and pure enjoyment that the world gives you.
I'm 45 years old. I've been trying to find this VERY recording for about 20 years. This was on the Glenn Miller PURE GOLD album that I bought back in 1977 or 1978 or so, but it's not on the remastered cut from the late 1990's or on any other recording of this song that I've heard anywhere else.
I've put this version in my youtube favorites. I'm gonna have to figure out a way to download it to cassette recorder or something so that I can keep it for another 20 years or so.
download youtube mp3 converter google it and when you understand it just download the audio to mp3 format. after that just get it into a normal virgin cd
@nudist0885 dude u can download all of his songs and albums at iso.hunt just type in Glen Miller and it pops up, about 4.17GB required data to download
Great comment! I have the album of the same title that you mentioned on LP and CD. However, the version of this song is quite different on the CD than on the LP. I was kind of puzzled about that; the version on the CD does not have the audience cheering at the end. I am thinking of getting the LP from a source and requesting it to be put on CD. (The LP version of this song is more enjoyable than the version on the album on CD.)
grandes canciones, grandes recuerdos, recuerdo esos sabados por la tarde las reuniones con la abuela y esta musica de fondo... sin palabras, no hacen falta.

I'm gonna have to figure out a way to download it to cassette recorder or something so that I can keep it for another 20 years or so.

one trick is to use audacity to record the audio from this video, and then you can save the file into about any audio format, you could like!

I like this recording- its very 1940s and has been used in a lot of modern movies/ TV shows that take place during that era.
