@sclock2 Sounds like you're describing emo kids, not goths. There are still plenty of goths that listen to goth rock and industrial still. Look up a goth club near where you live. You should be old enough to get into most of them, though some are 21+.

It has always been like that, believe me. In my my "goth" years most people didn't even know Wolfsheim, they just had their first album out, actually synthpop, but with a darker tone. People where always listening to shitty pop music, nowadays there are even more scenes when subcultures get more mainstream acceptance. And also more shitty so-called goth bands as well. Nice to hear you're into Cure, Smiths, DM - no goth but seriously good music without any fake attitudes.

Regarding, the americans artists, it s true that since couple of years its pretty pathetic. Furthermore there is the paradox that some US-musicians are successful in Europe but not in their native country. The contemporary music scene in Europe has a broader basis in my opinion than the one west of the Atlantic Ocean.
