  • @3dcognition how to hold the colours?

  • @ramonhimself - your colors are in the texture you assigned in 3ds Max - as long as the texture is applied in Max, it should follow along.

  • Your website's full version of this video is missing. It'd be great if you can reupload it in your website or link it somewhere else.

  • @sompret - yes, I just redesigned my website and forgot to put that wmv movie there, thanks for letting me know, the two unity movies are now back in place thanks to your reminder!

  • ive herd ur vioce

  • Hi All, just a quick note to say I can't respond to any questions for awhile I am teaching a tough class this term and no spare time. For Unity questions, try the forum at Unity3d.com.

    Thx!

  • hm im animating tank tracks and when i want to export it with spline i get this message:

The plug-in does not support the following objects' geometry type and will convert them to an editable mesh. Morph and skin deformations may be lost. If 'Enable in Viewport' is deactivated, closed shapes are capped and open shapes are converted to dummy objects with no edges or faces. If 'Enable in Viewport' is active, the Viewport settings are used for the mesh conversion:

  • @tdiSRB - sorry for the delayed reply, and that I cannot help since I've never tried importing tank tracks and don't have time to test it, but why not search on unity3d.com in the forum and support pages? Good luck.

  • i need that image in the back but i cant find out how to put it

    Please help

  • @Mattskate96 - sorry for the late reply - I haven't shared that image, but I suppose you could do a screen capture and apply it to a plane in your front view. Initially, I just built it myself using a biped.

  • i cant seem to find how to put the picture of the biped running in the back to help you out. Where can I find it?

  • Does unity support vertex animations?

  • @george3dmax - sorry for the late reply - sorry, actually don't know, never tried! Try unity3d.com and check the support forums.

  • goooooooooooooooooooooooooooood :D

  • Could someone send us a message back with your ideas for the zombie game? It can include characters ( Example:Zombie classes ), Level ideas (Map layouts), Weapons, Physics, Graphics, Gameplay, Campaign storyline,HUD's, Player Classes, NPC, Multiplayer and any other information that will help us make the game a more entertaining game to play! Thanks!

  • can i play this game ,or is this just a animation?

    thx

  • @AnteMicko - this was a very simple, basic game where the robot just runs around - yes it is an animation, in a sense, that was imported into a game engine - they players you play with in most games get their movement from animations.

  • @3dcognition

Ahm ,so can i play it or not?

    xD

  • @AnteMicko - okay, Ant, that is a totally reasonable request. I just set up a link for you - you have to go to my web site, then go to the tutorials page, and it is the link at the end of the section called From 3ds Max to Unity3d Game Engine.

So don't expect much, it's just the robot character running around in a very simple Unity terrain. You may have to click in the screen to get the game to recognize your arrow keys, use the UP arrow to walk > run.

  • niiiiiiiiiice Thank's

  • @kingdragon702 - sorry king but no, nothing on clothes in the book. In fact if you find some good clothes tutorials for Max can you let me know? I haven't needed clothes in the past but now I have a project coming up where they'd be nice.

  • @kingdragon702 - well Youtube doesn't allow us to put in links, but if you look on my channel, there is link to my website, where I have a book link. Or you can go to Amazon and search for Creating Game Art for 3D Engines.

  • @3dcognition or u can just put it to the description

  • @kingdragon702 - you go find the texture you made with the Materials Editor and apply the material to the character mesh. I can't remember, some of my earlier book CD excerpts may show this, but it is also demonstrated over step-by-step in my book.

  • Hey! Warning! This video is just a brief teaser! The real video is on my website, it's too big and long (15 minutes) to put on youtube! So if the video looks interesting to you, GO TO THE ORIGINAL, Don't waste your time with this funky short version.

    Thanks for understanding!

  • how do you make it to where he actually reloads the gun. Im stuck on this part, and the part that makes him actually move his legs. I have no idea how! Do you have to animate him or something? please help.

  • @wrm186 - yeah, he has to be animated in Max if you want him to move in Unity. Check out the full-length version of this video which is only on my web site.

  • So you can just export what ever you made in 3d max into unity as fbx file right? but why do people use UV Unwrapping instead of exporting?

  • i export my gun model ( with reload animation) but i says in unity that there is no animation!!

  • little useless, because video did end weird

  • can you do this but useing Maya?

  • @JackAida / yes you can but I don't have a demo for you. But yes, Unity can import Maya files.

  • Hey I've had a few requests to send models to people - I won't do that but I've just set it up on my website so that if you buy (or have already purchased) my book, you will have the passwords to a download page where you can get an animated robot and spider that both work in the Unity game engine. Also there is a 90 minute video on how to rig and animate the spider.

It's a pretty good deal, for the price of a paperback!

  • can you email me the model with the animations? PLEASE

  • @technochook - yes you can have these files if you have the book, I just made a download page for those interested.

  • 3dcognition Can you help me guide by msn? perhaps im stuck becuse i have two nice 3d characters but when i import in to unity the color i set in 3d max lost please help i have on mind a great rpg game

  • @Nocturnopoder06 - sorry I can't help you via msn.

  • @Hibofobi - yeah I'm working on that, hopefully will have time today or tomorrow!

  • @3dcognition Can you help me guide by msn? perhaps im stuck becuse i have two nice 3d characters but when i import in to unity the color i set in 3d max lost please help i have on mind a great rpg game

  • @Nocturnopoder06 i will help you here youre problem is that you need to import the texture for him anything imported to unity doesnt ALWAYS have its texture with it so just import the texture and then drag it onto youre character it should work if not try unity . c o m

  • who's the man ??? You are

  • Where did you get that template for the characters run cycle? It would help me out a lot :)

  • @S30Interactive - I made it - it's one of the files in my book if you want it. Or you can make your own, just remember to go from extreme pose to extreme pose, and keep it simple.

  • root joint... LOL!

  • I'm a Big fan of you, in fact, in my next video, i will recomend your channel, i don't have a bunch of subscribers NOW, but i will, my new video comes out in 2 or 1 day.

  • @goranification - thanks

  • I never would know about Unity if not you.

  • how did u got it to stay at one spot when it stands/walks/runs with me it goes forward (in 3ds max)

  • @rupluttaja - I used the slide feature on the biped keyframing tools, and let the feet slide in place.

  • @3dconginition - I dont know how to use Slide feature would you do tutorial for me?

  • @rupluttaja - sorry I'm too pressed for time but if I can fit it in I'll try, no promises.... look at the help in Max I think it is discussed...

  • How do you even make a person please make a video about it!!!!!

  • @Future6556 - thinking bout that, no time now but possibly soon.

  • So what if I have my character animations saved out to many different .max files? How can I get them all into one time line like yours?

  • @devinrayolsen1 - sorry for the late reply - now I've never done it the way you're talking about - good question - possibly see if you can export the keyframe information as a biped file and then reattach to the biped in sequence, at least that is an avenue to try. Anybody have some advice for devin?

  • "EXPORT", that's what i've been looking for. FINALLY!!

  • I think using animations with bipeds in Unity isnt the problem,

but most games need to call on the bones, for things like head tracking, weapon switching , gun aiming. can unity do the same thing bipeds that unity does with bones??

  • @MindChamber001 -

Well I spent many hours getting biped to work in Unity, so for me it was the problem, at least for awhile.

But, to answer your question, yes, bones work in Unity much the same as biped does. You just have to be using the FBX exporter that comes with Max 9 or later. I was not able to import bones to Unity with previous versions. I've been too busy to make a tutorial for it, but using the above technique should work.

  • @3dcognition Can you upload this file for me to download?
