  • Not only a Great Review, but also a Great roadtrip Video! :)

  • Wow this was great, i found this video as i'm getting this car in about 3 weeks and i can barely contain the joy, so i was sorta watching this video as kinda like of car porn lol. Also i love the travel elements to this video, i make a few travel vids an this just makes me wanna return to America again!!

  • How can anybody think this is a great review? You fill it up with diesel fuel, not diesel gas. Oh and also, TDI means Turbocharged Direct Injection. How could you ever make a video review on YouTube that is this terrible?

  • @Kingisland32 Oh would you just shut the hell up? Your review on the TDI is SOOO much better-- oh wait, you don't have one.

  • You know, you guys spent so much time in creating a nice video and everyone keeps failing on the most basic thing.

TDI does not mean Turbo Diesel Injection. It means, Turbocharged Direct Injection. And it is important because almost all modern diesels are turbocharged but not all are direct injection. The direction injection makes it a much more refined engine than what you can find in a Cummins or a Detroit Diesel. Just saying...

  • I too keep saying gas when I mean diesel.

  • "Turbo Diesel Injection"? Lol its "Turbo Direct Injection"...ya'll need some fact checkers!

  • @vdubaful Brad is right; it's actually industry jargon for Turbo Diesel Injection, that's why petrol/gas direct injection engines cannot have the TDI designation. The D is for diesel

  • @insidertrading1 "TDI or Turbocharged Direct Injection is a design of turbodiesel engines, which feature turbocharging and cylinder-direct fuel injection, developed and produced by Volkswagen Group." From the office VW website. I own one so I should know.

  • Can't be full of Diesel "gas"..

    otherwise, awesome vid!

  • One of the Best Car Review Video's Out there ! Great Editing! Funny and Informative...

Just purchased a 2011 VW Golf TDI - Getting apx 42 Mpg in the city of Vancouver BC!

  • Seth Green?

  • Man. I love outright performance machines, but it's hard to argue with a diesel. I mean, you get massive torque and excellent fuel economy. It's not like you need all the horsepower to go 0-60 ALL the time.

  • Diesel Gas LOL. GREAT VID

  • diesel injection lol..

  • TDI doesn't mean turbo diesel injection TDI means Turbocharged Direct Injection but great video over all my friend has one and they are super nice and fun to drive

  • 0:33 "We're full of diesel gas" lol

  • " A twin-clutch transmission means more power and better control than a manual"

==>> I obviously cannot disagree with that statement, but i bought mine with a manual transmission because IT IS SO MUCH MORE FUN than an AT !!!!!!

  • @Halfmoon67 I also cannot disagree with that statement :P

It's hard for me to decide between a DSG and a manual...

  • Road trip!!! I want one of these. Such a stylish car that you never feel guilty driving.

  • Hey did you come through Las Cruces, New Mexico?? Hi GearPatrol! LOL

  • what was your average MPG? did you calculate?

  • Good (looking) review(er). There. Two birds with one stone.

  • IF only the other review guys like FLD Tours could do reviews as well as you.. but they don't. You guys ROCK!

  • full of diesel gas. lol

  • I've got a 2011 Golf TDI in the same color as this one. Had the option of getting the DSG but I opted for the 6-speed. Couldn't resist. So far I've just passed 680 miles on the OD, finally filled up once and my average was 48.2mpg! Definitely a car I'm gonna keep for a very long time.

  • awesome review.. really enjoyed.. 5 stars

  • "A twin clutch transmission means more power and better control than a manual" where is the source that states this/ proof?

  • actually D stands for direct

  • very good gear patrol u have an eco friendly house and u sell solar panels

  • Did I miss something or did he never say his average MPG over that trip!!?

  • We are American Citizens... He fell for it XD

  • Great video, a few comments

-You should have mentioned that the 2010 TDI's feature the new TDI Clean Deisel engines which are significantly cleaner, quieter and more efficient than TDI's of the past. In my opinion the TDI VW's are far superior to any hybrid

-TDI stands for Turbo Direct Injection which is the deisel fuel injection system that Volkswagen uses in all of its deisel powered vehicles.

-Secondly, 3 tanks of deisel not gas...and it injects deisel fuel not gas. lol

  • got my golf yesturday took it on the freeway was getting 50 mpg :)

  • have the old diesel rabbit she's 30 years old with 20 million miles on her still runs like new only thing i had to do was put new rotors on. trading her in for the 2011 golf tdi i drive 40 k miles a year just to work and back not counting errands and stuff

  • Dude it is "Turbo Direct Injection"

  • Gearpatrol, Thanks so much for this vid, it solidified our (my girlfriend and I) decision to get the 2011 golf TDI and we love it! The mileage is sick, we drove from nyc to philly and back for a cheesesteak on our second day of ownership and we barely used a quarter tank of diesel.

  • You have more charisma than all the people on Top Gear USA

  • I love the Arizona speed limit on the outskirts

  • What color is that. I want to get my Golf TDI in that color.

  • correction. diseals dont use spark plugs, they usually use Glo Plugs, which compresses the diseal until it explodes, seeing as diseal doesent ignite because it isnt flammable. but you were semi right

  • @NickNoRtHeRnLiGhTs correction the diesel uses the glow plugs when its cold it preheats the air and combustion chambers in the engines and helps with aid in the combustion process so no he was right

  • I test drove a '10 Golf TDI and LOVED it. I put over 102k on my '06 Civic Hybrid (with ZERO problems btw). So coming from a 1.3L gasoline four cylinder mated to a CVT, the 236ft-lbs of torque from the 2.0L diesel mated to a DSG was nothing short of AWESOME! I test drove a CR-Z the same day, and while the CR-Z was way better than the Civic Hybrid drive train, the TDI still topped it....

  • Love this review!!! I test drove a 2010 GTi yesterday and a 2011 Tdi today. Let me tell you I was actually set on buying a 2010 Mazdaspeed3 before I drove the GTi. The Gti blew me away! But the Tdi blew me away even more! Its basically a GTi with a different engine with more torque! Needless to say I am getting a Tdi within a couple weeks! Love it!

  • ha diesel gas ;) Just buggin enjoy your videos

  • I am gearing up to buy my first car and will be driving 60 miles one way to work. I am about 6 foot 2. I am looking at the GTI and this TDI what would you recommend i get for comfort and fuel efficiency?? i am looking to buy it within a month. hope to hear from you thanks.

  • @snapontoolguy84 Really really liked this car. I'm 6'1" and was very comfortable. At least go and test drive one. Like I said in the review, great zippy feel and great mpgs. Those are big things for me. Enjoy!

  • @snapontoolguy84 Well, if you go for comfort, and espicially fuel consumption you def. want the TDI. The GTI is mainly build for those who doesn't drive that much and doesn't care about the fuel efficiency, but both models are very good. German cars ftw.

  • @snapontoolguy84 60 miles to work in a car one way thats just not environmentally friendly and not cheap too, why not take a bus, but i forgot the americans dont have buses and rails, what a shitty polluting country

  • @snapontoolguy84 i might buy one tomorrow, i am 6 ft. i will let you know. however you should move 60 miles to work sounds terrible.

  • Very fun review!!! Most car reviews are very technical, but this review was fun! I appreciate the real-world feel of this review. Thanks for posting!

  • @geojibby Thanks. Yeah. We have fun making them. Keep on checkin' them out. Lots more to come. Got an R8 review coming up!

  • i have a 2010 golf tdi i average 67 and 47 in the city remember it depends on the person driving it and there driving habbits. the vw tdi blows any hybrid away id'e never buy a hybrid diesel is always better and the engine longentivity is way better than a regular gas powered vehicle. this car rocks it's fun to drive theres no fun in a hybrid and some hybrid have whats known as a rubber band effect.

  • sweet shit!

  • snake xD

  • You are the best!

    Respect from portugal.

  • lol i love this guy

  • i saw the review for the smoking tire review for the audi a3 diesel with the same numbers and he said at highway speed it was a bit scary because torque is for off the line and at highway speeds its more about horsepower than torque and the hp wasn't enough.

  • Wohoo

    El Paso, TX!

  • 3 tanks of gas!!! but how many gallons?

  • @pelepihuamo it has a 14 gallon tank so that's 52. Pretty good.

  • @gearpatrol thats amazing. considering the get up and go

  • @gearpatrol U meant 42 gallons - EVEN BETTER :)

  • Not enough about the car. Too much editing. Didn't like it.

  • @sweetrayatgmail haha...score is right! First of about a billion!

  • another fun review

    great job!

  • Great vid! Awesome editing btw.

  • I love this car!
