It is compulsry to carry your ausweis id at all times!4 TIMES i have been stoped in the street for this very reason.On 1 occasion I ONLY HAD 2 BANK CARDS ON ME AND NO ID.i was whisked away to the nearest pig sty,STRIPSEARCHEDafter refusing to give my fingerprints.Held In a cell,still refusing to give my finger prints 6 hours in,after a visit from the heavys.i gave in

so there are no positives in this scheme for the British people, just negatives. After world war 2 Winston Churchill did away with the idea of ID papers for all citizens, and implemented a free constitution, all aimed at preventing government fascism to prevent a Nazi style dictatorship ever happening in Britain. Lets hope we don't go back to such times.. only reason i see for this scheme is to reduce British freedoms by increasing state control over the British people. That's facism in my book

The ID card will become the gold standard of identity in Britain, which will in turn lead to an over reliance of trust in the card by police, government agencies, banks, air port security etc and this trust will mean less checks are done. Doesn't the whole world have one of those already? When I travel I am always ask for my ID and I am always proud -and kinda smug- to say I don't need one, I am British, in Britain you don't to walk clutching a document that says who you are... etc, etc -not any more??? It will be a terrible loss for our civil liberties.

Get your facts right and do not jump into conclusions. You do not need to carry a driving licence all the time unless you are driving. Same way, no govt or police will take you to custody for not carrying a card with you all times. It does have a purpose, which unfortunately you don't seem or want to accept!

In Britain you don't need to carry a driving license whilst driving, you just need to have one. If the police stops you and they are in any doubt, you get up to 10 days to show your license at any police station. You can also drive without having a license if it is an emergency and you would have no impediments in getting a license if you so wish. Just clarifying.

What drivel! You have 7 days to produce a licence not 10. You cannot drive without one in an emergency. It is an offence to fail to produce your driving licence on demand to a police officer, somnetimes even if you aren't even driving! Get it right please.
