Yeah, people like you are just a problem. Don't try to make the world a better place, just wait for a fictional savior to come and do it. Those who aren't interested in making a better world should get out of the way of those putting in the effort. Go back to your church.
@AntidoteY I don't go to a "church". I do what I can tho as I'm supposed to do. I'm not one of the ones out there committing crimes, stealing, hurting people, including children and animals, tearing down society and the family structure. And so....what are you doing for the betterment of mankind? Is bashing Christians really all that helpful? I think not, since they are the majority providing homeless shelters, food pantries and meal centers for the hungry and homeless. Jesus bless u.
Regardless, you're a lunatic, spewing lunacy, and preying on the weak and fearful with a theology of complacence and apathy towards worldly affairs that is as toxic and noxious as any drug. You're no different from a drug dealer or any other gangster, you're a pernicious cultist looking for recruit others from the cause of bettering the world in order to lull others to sit, comatose, as you do, and act contrary to all progressive movement.
@Shekanahh I'm not bashing Christians, I'm bashing a complacent lackey for reaction and savagery who needs to hide behind faith to justify his cowardice and sloth at moving to improve the world for others. @deathcadilac Communism is a great idea, unfortunately most countries aren't true to the principals, they create something corrupt and call it communism, and therefor it get's a bad name. In all fairness however, i'm not sure it can function the way it is intended to when used on a large scale such as Russia, it's really best suited to small localized communities with their own government, which basically boils down to inter networked anarchist municipalities are the way to go!
people confuse fascism and communism because they both have dictators which are usualy violent and can easily force thier entire country into a war without any conscent from the society that is also being forced to work and are getting the shaft from collectivism hitler and mao are not that different
wow you are all communists and anti americans woody although an amazing artist was corrupt by the communist propaganda woody wanted freeddom he even says it in this song there is no freedom in communisim fools read animal farm you are so quick to give away your freedom and our way might not be perfect but its a hell of alot better than socialism or communisim you traitors woody would be offended
@deathcadilac You're confusing Stalinism for Democratic Socialism. Stalinism is fascism under the guise of equal distribution, Democratic Socialism is the system of government they have in Sweden. As for communism, that's the concept of a community working towards a common good, which is great, but it requires there are no greedy people or ignoramuses such as yourself. Thus, true communism is impossible on a large scale.
@deathcadilac I have read animal farm. Do you know that George Orwell was actually a socialist? Do you know he fought fascism in Spain in the name of socialism for the P.O.U.M militia (Trotskyist)? Read George Orwell's 'Homage to Catalonia' and all will be explained in a much better way than I can! Have an open mind my friend, not all the left hold Stalin and Mau aloft as idols! :)
@lozington95 WOW you really missed the point you ig'nant f**ktard. For people reading comments that haven't read the book. Farm animals revolt against the farmer and take over, but the pigs deftly claim leadership, they requisit the best of everything made on the farm, and at the very end they start acting (walking on two legs) like the rest of the farmers in the area. The moral is that the power corrupts, not that the system corrupot. AND Permanent Revolution is for stupid dick fags.
@VonPerouski Yes a system where power is centralised in the hands of an elite corrupts! The lesson of the book is that a system where power is not shared will always lead to inequality. In short the book is anti-fascist, and fascism can come under the guise of capitalism AND stalinism. Nobhead.
@acceptableviolence false. unions aren't corrupt. they changed this country and are still necessary. we live in the better world woody sung about, although there is still a long way to go and a lot more to achieve.
@Kydjaa I think he DID mean that the music he was creating, and the music others made, could make people think, rebel, and change society. And that would include, in the extreme, overthrowing repressive governments. What do you think?
absolutely true, Woody knew the power of radio, he understood better then anybody how it united people in a new, primitive decentralized way. you rarely encounter such clear vision of the world (and media in particular) among modern 'artists'.
@1998yanksftw because, in my opinion they are the most evil people on earth, for example mate, Adolf Hitler was a fascist. Woody Guthrie was a communist and hated the fascist, e.g the nazi party.
Please, do not condemn the internet. The internet does two things incredibly well - it allows for the instant access for a plethora of information, from Wikipedia to news media, from JSTOR and other data bases of academic journals to a means by which people can organize with great ease and speed. It also makes the idiocy of many to be all the more visible, but it's not as though the internet created it. Stop condemning what you either do not understand or misunderstand.
@ggyagoda What does that entire statement, have to do with Woody Guthrie or Bob Dylan? There's never going to be greats like them again, because the internet hardly allows for such greats to be spread heard easily in a fashion that makes people think; unlike T-pain or others who are a waste of space. The internet is very restrictive, especially since the youth of today doesn't pay attention to such greats and what they were saying or trying to. Nowadays, it's all about TMZ and others like that.
@ManofWonder82 My statement has to do with your condemnation of the internet as a tool of mediocrity and idiocy. Apparently, that is not what you meant to say. However, I don't see how the internet makes it harder for someone like a new Guthrie or Dylan to be heard; in fact, I can only see how the opposite is true. The internet allows for little known artists to spread their music cheaply and broadly. I don't see how the internet stopped greatness in the 80s and 90s.
@ggyagoda Well as for the internet being a tool of mediocrity and idiocy, I would say that about 95% of what you'd find on the internet to be as such. (Of course, our interests on the net probably differ, but I'm sure if you looked at all the stuff on the net, and everything you enjoyed on the net; it'd be a very low number compared to the trash on it.) For music, the internet does hinder them because it's a very small percentage that probably looks for a Guthrie or Dylan. The rest is wasteful.
@ManofWonder82 But it's not the internet's fault that people don't look up Guthrie or Dylan, that's what I'm saying - it's the people themselves. Like I said last time, I really doubt that more people were into either artist in the 80s or 90s, but you can hardly blame the internet. Also, as jennabeanable said, the internet allows one to purchase music that otherwise might be almost impossible to find at low cost. Don't blame the internet, blame people (if you must).
@ManofWonder82 if it wasn't for the internet i would have never discovered Woody Guthrie and just because there are things on the internet that you dislike or find "stupid" doesn't mean that they shouldn't be there. The internet is easily one of the most important tools for a free society. If you want to be tyranical about something that has alot more bad than good content, you should look at nearly all mainstream TV and Radio content.
@ggyagoda I've got to agree with you here. I'm 25 years old, and just starting to really dig into Woody's music. Amazon.com has allowed me to purchase several books and CDs at a very low cost. Most of which I knew nothing about until I searched. Online.
@barmbrackthecat--no, not likely, especially when one considers the manner in how we as a people deal with the notions of responsibility and hard work. I am farm-bred and raised, but labor-saving equipment has taken most of the hard, nasty jobs of my youth away from this generation of youth. Woody knew that life wasn't easy because he suffered a truly hard life of labor. Much of the native-born American population feels that to bust your butt is sinful. Too bad because it builds character.
@DuneFrog And I'm pretty sure Glen Beck is not confused. He just uses the two words interchangably as part of his rhetoric in order to further his agenda.
@blackmetalbanana Communism and fascism are different, but results are the same. Hitler killed six Jews. Stalin killed roughly nine million of his own people. Woody Guthrie was good man, but very naive.
Hitler created Nazism, it began and ended with him. Communism, socialism, are much broader ideologies with various applications and interpretations. To equate Stalin's paternalism, paranoia, and excesses with communism would be like equating all of Christianity with the Crusades, Inquisitions, and Pogroms.
@cwcwful He also actually lived through the Great Depression, avoided joining the Communist Party so as to maintain his independence in thought and deed, and crewed a merchant vessel across an ocean crawling with Nazi subs, but hey, he was naive about the events of his own day because he didn't have the advantage of taking 7th grade social studies in 2005.
The war is still on. Except I think the struggle is an eternal one neither is ideal it's all a matter of balance. When man is perfect than maybe . . .
I wish there were more today who stood up for the liberation of the working class from exploitation.
