Queen isn't Queen without Fred, but it definitely isn't Queen without one of the surviving members. I think he undervalued himself. The 'Queen' as we all know and love only ever had one bass player and he contributed some great songs. John, if you're out there, it would be great to see(or hear) you again with Brian and Roger, if only to be interviewed about the good old days. The music that you and the other members of Queen produced still means a lot to lot of people .
John deacon. Please come back with brian and roger one last time for a one off gig to celebrate 40 yrs of queen. I know it obviously affected you Remember it affected not just you but his roger, brian family freinds and the fans. you joined queen after freddies death twice 1992,1997 just one more time. Freddie would want you to.
If I could create my dream band, it would have two bassists, with one being John, and the other being "The Apostle" Paul Martin. Johnny Cash would be the rhythm guitarist, Don Wayne Jr would be the banjo guy, plus others including myself, but the spotlight would be on John and Paul, to showcase what they could do on more than the bass. Anyone else with me on that?
I was able to see/meet Apostle Paul and Don Jr. They're country/bluegrass guys, and are really good. Will never get to the chance to see Johnny, but would like to see John if he returns to the music biz.
And nobody would believe this, but Apostle Paul (who I met a few months ago) was the one that made me want to start playing bass. Not just that, but Queen (who I saw in 2008) introduced me to Metallica, who introduced me to metal. In a few months time, I'm gonna see Iron Maiden, and it's all thanks to Queen that it's happening (and also thanks to Apostle Paul, whose bass playing on stage was a bass lesson for me)
It's not a me fest, but thanks for the compliment. I started off with guitar, but now do banjo, mandolin, bodhran, even a bit of bass. Will be glad to get one, cause I've been hankering for one for a few years.
thanks i never knew he wrote this, i should read my ablums better, love this song, John was the quiet member you dont know much about, shame he left the band for the quiet life
@62rockin All great, but not forgetting I Want to Break Free, Back Chat, You And I, etc... :)
It's easy for me to say that John and Brian are my two favorite members of Queen. I'm a fan of several bass players from several bands, and I'm used to them not getting the recognition they deserve. For a change I'm glad to see that Deaky is well loved. Great tribute video. :)
john, packed up from playing with Queen, as had been all his adult life from uni, he wanted to spend time with family and do the thing he cant do as a star of queen, so retired and royalties from the shows, etc, best of both worlds, and we get the relative back and not the odd appearance from a star...
hes my unlce, and he still plays, just not with Queen, he can play in local bands and with me, unrecogniseable, as people assume its not him, same when in our home in france, however never give up a reunion, as roger is with us for xmas, (for all u queen fans)
John Deacon chose to retire from the music business after he played on the song "No One But You"(Only the Good Die Young). He wrote them a letter saying that he supported them in whatever they wanted to do, but he had chosen to hang up his bass. Although after Freddie died, I can't say I blame him. He was one of the greatest bassists of all time. Love you John Deacon!
John Deacon chose to retire from the music business after he played on the song "No One But You"(Only the Good Die Young). He wrote them a letter saying that he supported them in whatever they wanted to do, but he had chosen to hang up his bass. Although after Freddie died, I can't say I blame him
Deaks will never play with whats left of Queen. IMO the other two shafted him after Freddie died.. While he's thought of as 'quiet' his relationship with Roger is considered 'explosive'. He's a nice family oriented guy, 6 kids, married 35 years. He has been totally faithful and respectful to Freddie, and to Freddies memory. He does keyboard, piano, double bass, bass, guitar and several other instruments. A Great musician, one of the best! Best of luck to you Deaks.
I bought a album of cosmos rock, well even my mom (that, likes more of the operatic songs of queen, or freddie in solo) says that cd was a crap, that she has gave better 10,50 euro by Queen Live at Bowl or even 11,95 for Hot Space that she gave about 7 for cosmos rock, (my mom buy all my albuns, i'm unployed for health probs) well, she's damnn right and mr deacon is the King of Bass
@daanthekingofpaints Yes i mean that Brian and Roger betrayed freddie singing with Paul Roger or with Robbie williams.Once Brian said that Paul Rodger was the favourite singer of Freddie but does it means that they must replace him?.Sorry i dont know how explain- my english is very poor.I think they hurt not only the legacy of Freddie, but all fans of Queen too.
@lusine423 Do you really think that Brian and Roger betrayed Freddie ? Their best friend ? I don't think that they would replace him, and Paul haven't replaced him, he just joined the band in order to "do a service" in a way, didn't he ? And if he would really have replaced Freddie, the band wouldn't be called "Queen+Paul Rodgers"... Sorry if I look impolite, but I love them, and that hurts when you say that they betrayed Freddie (RIP, he was an incredible genius <3).
@GreatQueenFan not at all, he's still alive! if you search on google you can find some recent photos of him with his family...he's much older now, but i think he's allright ;)
Nobody could lay down a groove quite like John did. A very solid player and great songwriter. It would be great if Fender would honor him by putting out a John Deacon signature Precision bass.
Definitely John Deacon is the most underrated bass player of the rock and roll history.
He did some fantastic bass lines: Another One Bites the Dust, Dragon Attack, The Miracle, The Show Must Go On, Ride the Wild Wind, Liar, A Kind of Magic, The Invisible Man and so on...
Most underated Bass Player in my opinion! Never grabbing the spotlight, just a solid musician. His grooves sound quite basic and simple at first, but when you really listen, they are quite complex with impeccable timing (Bohemian Rhapsody, The Show Must Go On, etc.). Freddie, Brian, John and Roger were the epitomy of syncronicity. All musicians of the highest quality. Sadly, I never got to see them perform live. One of my many regrets. RIP Freddie!
John was also a great guitarist as you can hear on Staying Power or Back Chat. It´s not Brian May playing the guitar. But John definitly is one of the greatest bass players in rock history. That´s for sure. I´m so sorry that he played any longer
John Deacon is one of the best bass players and songwriters of rock history, Queen would never become what they are without this man, the silent hero of Queen...
Not to mention These are the days of our lives, Friends will be friends, One year of love, I want it all*, the main line of Under Pressure... Deacon rocked!!
I heard that John was forced to play after Freddie's death at the tribute concert,he couldn't go on without Freddie,I wonder sometimes why, othertimes I relise why.
Really..? How do you know? Well, it's true that John and Freddie were like opposites.. but I thought they got together well enough to be friends. I've read that John felt a little locked out sometimes, but I always thought the four of them made quite good friends.
Deacon was excellent at developing beautiful melodic bass lines that blended in with the music, making the song better but not standing out. He rarely depended on technical pyrotechnics. For that reason he was often overlooked. Listen to "The Show Must Go On" for a good example. He was the kind of player that other bass players appreciate and admire but the average fan often does not.
@RedTuscany you said it bro!... but, for my generation (I'm 27 years old) that album gave me the chance to see Brian May and Roger Taylor on stage... something good came out from that album... but my favorite member of the band is John Richard Deacon... he wrote one of the songs that mean THE WORLD to me like 'spread your wings' is... I really like the respect that he has for Freddie but myself I would kill to see him performing sometime.
John is without a doubt my favorite mameber of Queen. He has that laid back attitude of a bass guitar player. One thing I remember about him is an interview where he was asked at the time what kind of car he drives. The interviewer could not believe he drove a volvo.

I think that John was better in bass than Freddie at piano, Roger at drums and Brian on guitar.

John is without a doubt my favorite mameber of Queen. He has that laid back attitude of a bass guitar player. One thing I remember about him is an interview where he was asked at the time what kind of car he drives. The interviewer could not believe he drove a volvo.
