If you're ever in the Midwest, Angry (as unlikely as that may be), you should DEFINITELY hit up White Castle. AWESOME, AWESOME burgers. They may be small, but they are scrumptious as fuck. Plus, WC is open 24/7 I think. ;)
Lemon's ok for things like hard candy (lemon drops, for instance), but for pies and similar shit, I get kind of grossed out at just the thought. I don't find lemon to be sweet enough for that kinda stuff.
Hostess is AWESOME. And Little Debbie. I LOVE their oatmeal cream-filled sandwiches. Swiss cake rolls are always great, albeit very messy. Hostess cupcakes.. mmm
I actually encountered a REAL LIFE Hostess treats store for the first time up in Minneapolis when I stayed with my dad for the summer a few years ago. Yes, they do exist ;) I think there used to be (or still is) one right down the road like half a mile from my house. Hm...
I used to like Hostess fruit pies back in the 70s. They were a lot better back then. The cherry ones Rocked! They actually had lots of big cherries in them.
Now AA, a tad off-subject here, but thinking of 'lemon' food products led me to remember the Lemon Drumstick ice-cream (now missing from my freezer and the supermarket). Wondering WTF happened to them..
lol food is always good no mater were its from lol but small warning if u ever plan on going to japan some of there things arnt the greatest......but those pies our hella good and there also now here as collage student food cause there cheap....
I would like to point out to you board509. Not everyone in japan and china eat thous things . mostly the rich bastards . A very small percent of there population and It is starting to be frowned apon quite a bit.
i love those things, havent had one in years, lol i guess its an aquiered taste, the younger you are when you are exposed to the flavor the better it gets
I was at Mystic Seaport last year and my friend Kyle didn't know what the penny thing was, so he said to me "You mean I just lost 50 cents!?" I told him the penny is worthless now, so he really lost 51 cents. That was a pretty funny day.
Ooh I used to love Hostess fruit pies as a kid. And I MUST go to that cupcake place, I've never been. Glad to see you sampled some local delicacies here. You did get to In-N-Out Burger, yes?
God love those fruit pies!!!! I craved those darn things when preg, then had to work off those 26grams of fat after I had my son.....now 19 yrs later, I can't stand them.
hahahahahha when the person said they where moving to st kilda i thought they ment st kilda in scotland (i have said this before) and i was laughing because that would be the worst place ever to live unless you like birds, i dont mean st kilda in austraili i mean in scotland btw

OMG. I haven't thought of hostess fruit pies in years! They manage to be both gross and yummy at the same time. Lemon is a good one. Cherry too. There is chocolate, but you may need american blood to appreciate it. lol. To make them 'fancy'... bite one end off and squirt whipped cream inside.
buddy i have heard that there is deep fried coke in the US, well actually its a batter made with coke. Angry take a bullet for the ausies and give that a try :P
Gotta love the food in SF! Of course it's got all those disgusting twinkies things and hersheys and all that, but the organic, health food market is probably unparalleled in the world! If you want to make yourself feel better after that fruit pie try going to the wholefood supermarket in town (sorry-forgotten the name!) It's bigger than most of our supermarkets in Australia! YUM!
Pizza is really different all across the U.S. did you get any while you were over here? In Chicago we have deep dish and you can literally eat like 2 or 3 pieces and be full. I can't get my mind around how Australians eat meat pies.... All pies should be sweet tasting!
It's great to see you going around, AngryAussie! How about a trip to the north? To see us Canadians! As a chef cook, I can assure you we don't have a very "typical" cuisine, but I'm sure you will enjoy a few of our stuff. And heck, we're just awesome! Go north and meet us!
If you Aussies get a chance in the U.S. try some Pan Dulce Mexican bread.
Especially if you are in the SF or LA areas. Go to a Mexican Bakery!!
Cheers Mates

Eat a hot dog if you want to eat something they think is American. Hot dogs, apple pie and baseball. Right.
That's sooo California to make CUPCAKES healthy.
It should be a cardinal sin to make goodies, or sweets of any kind, healthy.
I'm mostly joking, but I stand by thinking it should be sinful to make certain edibles with health value.
IMO if you want health, eat a Granola bar.
vickiormindyb 2 years ago
I'm pretty sure they were still sinful.
AngryAussie 2 years ago
@vickiormindyb apple pie is about as English as you can get. not American.
