Franky is my favorite sprinter, a real humble guy, his presence in the sport was a welcome reprieve from the showboating, immature sprinters of his era. A great role-model.
Five-time World & Olympic champion? What am i missing. He won the 1995 WCs 100 & 4x100. He repeated those feats at the Atlanta Olympics. MoGreene won the 97 & 99 WCs 100. Where's the 5th title 4 Bailey?
@htownhomie06 He won the 95 world 100 and 4x100m relay. Then he won the same two things in Atlanta, and he anchored his team to win gold in the 4x100m at the 97 worlds.
Boldon was complaining about Linford wasting time and not going out of the track after his 2 false starts, the waited way too much,100m sprinters can't wait that long...
@Bajinjo This actually happened twice to Boldon. He was also apot of the infamous John Drummond "I DID NOT MOVE" race. If you watch that video, he was visibly pissed before and after that race cuz it happened to him again. People who don't run t&f don't understand the amount of concentration it takes to run a race, especially sprints and when someone does that it completely takes you out of your game and in a race as short as the 100, being off just a little can cost you.
It's not bad it's just inconsistent. When you run indoors you know your block clearance and drive phase have to be technically correct. When you run outdoors you may not focus on it so much or you may be focused more on the sprint stride phase more.
@PowerSprinter You apparently think the 50m is run al the time? Where? When? You're an idiot. Go watch that race and tell me Bailey didn't guess the gun.
Absolutely agree that Linford was screwed. I was so mad that I called NBC to scream about their biased coverage and the rants of Chris freaking Collingsworth, who knows less about running than he does the NFL (and that's saying something). However, even in my most patriotic dreams I can't seen Linford running 9.86.
I don't like Chris Collingsworth either, but I don't remember Collingsworth calling the 1996 100m Finals for NBC. I believe it was Tom Hammonds and Craig Masbeck, sorry if I spelled his name wrong! I remember watch both the NBC and CBC coverage of that race!
linford was screwed he was the fastest man there at the time and the last "false start" was actually a good start but the electronic mechanism for false starts wasnt accurate enough to determine that christies start was good, research it christie had the best start ever and it was given as false such a pity
Carl Lewis is the greatest sprinter ever, his 100m record is broken but no one ran like Lewis, most spinter have their eyes bulging out of their sockets not Lewis the man ran cool as a cat

Bailey was a good sprinter, could have been better but he did not have good starts. He always has to play catch up, just watch his races, his speed and long strides help him win races.
U morons, micheal johnson ran 19.32 only because fredericks was in that race, competition brings out the best in you and on the day bailey was up for it with fredericks as a target for his start!! He would have run that time if that race was run over and over and over again!
I think it had more to do with his slip out the blocks, he had slight slip out the blocks which forced his to run faster due to the historic 2/4 double he was trying to pull
Bailey is very tall, and it is physiologically difficult for him to be a great starter. He wasn't a Ben Johnson style power runner. He only ran part-time until age 24- he wasn't a full time track athlete until 3 years before the Olympic final, which is incredible. He wasn't the smoothest, but he was fast.
Who cares what people think. He won Olympic gold and world gold and held a world record. Not too shabby. More than Boldon the bottle job!! People forget the horrendous injuries the guy suffered after 99 so we'll never know what else he could of done.
"Bailey was not a consistant sprinter sure he set a world record but how many titles he won it was a lucky shot in my opinion he is a <b>shitty sprinter</b>"
So not only do you clearly have no clue as to what you're talking about, but now you're trying to lie about what you're talking about. Next thing we know you'll be raving on about how good he was.
he was not consistant how many sub 10's has he run in his his career not as much as maurice greene and ato boldon, sure he held the word record but that was a lucky shot, i have nothing against him i just think he is over rated do your research on him and compare him to other sprinters youll see for yourself
Sorry bud track and field is maybe the only sport immune to idiotic "he got lucky" comments. Theres no "fluke" goals or baskets for morons to argue over. You either can. Or you cant. WTF... he tripped and mistakenly ran 9.84?? LOL...slap yourself.
he did it only once he never ran close to that time again compare him to osafa powell he set the world record 9.76 right then a few months after he tied the record again bailey never came close to 9.84 after he set the record maurice greene on the other hand set the world record broke it and set another one and held the title for a few years until osafa powell came along
The bloke won gold at the Olympics in '96 and gold in the '95 world champs... Good enough for me.
I'm not trying to say that he's the best sprinter in the history of athletics, because clearly he's not. But your argument about him being a "shitty sprinter" just doesn't hold up. It's logically absurd.
but u cant say hes a shity runer, he was a great runner of his time and u cant compare him with other runer best of time because johnson will beat them all. my opinion, his time nvr consistant because his start is suck but then again he won olympic and world athletic, he desrve a spot in a great athletic category. and stop hating
he ran 9.91 a few times and a heap of times under 9.95.
athletes peak for big events and he got it right...
i think you mean asafa powell also..unfortunately any US sprinter is suspect due to the poor drug records there...even Tyson Gay is suspiciously running all of a sudden faster now than he ever was...just as BJ and JG all of a sudden improved..
Asafa has been on the mark for some time now...a clue to if a person is clean...
