Hi KarateMasR57, I use all the pickups you mention and really, you can't go wrong with any of them. Of course the Model one is "specialized". It's big and dark sounding compared to the p bass style but it's a really cool great sound. I have a bass with the willpower P and area J Jazz in the bridge position and that's a really fantastic combination. Of course I like the mirrored p style for more aggression.
Vol>between 10-1 o'clock, Tube drive > 1:00, Bass 3-4:00, 150hz> -9dB, 200hz > just under flat, Mids > around 10:00, 1.6kHz >all the way, 2KHz >Just under all the way, Treb.> Between 3:00-4:00. Set the tone curve flat. That was a mic'd 8x10 and my pickps are Dimarzio passive type. Pickups will make a big difference in some of these settings and the way the tone controls react. Thanks for checking in!
I've been told Yamaha has no plans to produce one at this point however, I am chatting with the UK division about creating a signature "Attitude" model. In fact it was Billy Sheehans' idea, how cool is that? We'll see where it goes. If we do, it will undoubtably have similar features to my Custom BB. Stay tuned...
@BassMonsterr That would be cool! But i'd never be able to afford one! :(
James, do you have a Status B1? Just curious! Thanks man, stay rocking! Love your stuff, love your Yamaha Bass and you're one of the reasons i like ashdowns! Thank you for everything you've given me and all for free :D (well minus paying for CD's haha :) )
What I keep wondering is whether or not this Yamaha James Lomenzo signature bass will ever be available at a music store. That would be amazing. I really like those 2 precision pickups (one inverted) as well as the neck pickup. I would totally buy it.
That's one of my Ashdown ABM 500's into an Ashdown ABM 8x10, Mic'd with an Electrovoice RE27D Into An Aphex 1100 preamp Into protools. Theres a bit of bleed from the lavaliere which I thought added nice presence as well. Oh, the cab was in the room off to the side about 5 feet or so.
@TheMoistdesert Thanks! Depending on how hot you run it and how much treble you drive noise can be a factor, same as most distortion pedals. That's the correct strategy, noise gate. I like the Hush models by Rocktron myself. Thanks for your comments! James LoMenzo
@r0m3r12 Humbly I say thanks! I love the pedal too, just got back from thirty shows with Dio Disciples. I actually used it ahead of the direct as well as my amp. Was very pleased!
I wish I could play the guitar, i mean... really play. I envy all you folk that can

My usual setting as in that video would be:
Vol>between 10-1 o'clock, Tube drive > 1:00, Bass 3-4:00, 150hz> -9dB, 200hz > just under flat, Mids > around 10:00, 1.6kHz >all the way, 2KHz >Just under all the way, Treb.> Between 3:00-4:00. Great demo, James!
Perfect for giving a P-bass a bit more attitude and punch.
It is a bit noisy, but it can be fixed with a noise gate, of course. But all in all a VERY good and useful pedal.
