  • just nitpicking but if you are only checking continuity it will never EVER matter which lead you touch to which end

  • @TidyTRAPHOUSE561 how do i do it? dont ask this guy itll be a waste of time!

  • @BA551234 we at the topp ketchuupp!!!!! brrr!Skkkkurrt!yeeeeaauuuuuhhhhh!grrrr! uuhhhh! he's tired!

  • @TidyTRAPHOUSE561 You HAVE to be trolling..

  • @iTzDifficult nope im just a cop

  • 1:40 - "And you're also not in an environment where there's air.."

    I was just like "...?"

  • my sub still moves and everything it just doesnt sound right after playing it too long one night. Is it blown?

  • if u need to check the sub and dont want to take it out just take a double a battery and make contact on the pos and neg, if the subs work they will make a small bass note. good if u dont have a volt meter and need a quick trouble shoot if u arnt getting power from amp.

  • decent

  • i need help. i was in a car audio accident about 5 months ago i don't know what the cause was but i had my gf's uncle install it for me. he did an ok job it worked no problems. im thinking the cause of it is because my car is pretty fast and the box moved around a lot and the wires may of disconnected. anyways it stopped working i turned it on the subs were barely playing couldn't tell if they were blown.the wires caught fire! is it my subs that are blown or was it the wiring message me bak plz

  • are legacy 500watt good

  • my subs only have a scratch noise if u push them down super hard to the point where they stop is that bad.

  • Also I have been considering ditching the P1's and getting a pair of 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch P3's. Should I just pawn the P1's and go with the P3's? Send me a message in my inbox. Thank you.

  • Hey my subs have decreased in power since i first installed them. At first they hit really hard but now im finding that i have to turn up the subwoofers louder and louder to get the same result out of them. Also, when I increase my speed in my car, the subwoofers tend to get quieter. This starts to happen at speed in excess of 25mph. I think its a problem with my deck. It is stock. I drive a subaru legacy 2004 sedan. I have two 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch P1's in a sealed enclosure.

  • thanks for the post!

  • "be sure your in a area with no air..." ok just a sexcend *flys to moon* ok there!...

  • @00011theman air that can move the cone, dude. includes loud places etc.

  • Interesting, I have an older set of Orion XTR Series 2 12's (from the mid 90's old school) and they both measure 6.0 - 6.1 ohms on my multimeter yet they're rated @ 4ohms.

Just to verify it wasn't my multimeter's fault I tested a Pioneer 12" sub and it measures 4.1ohms (4ohm rating).

  • how are you at soldering those little wires together? My hands shake enough to piss me off when I'm trying to solder but I think that was years of using impact guns and such at my work.

  • Great videos man!!

  • do you have parkinsons?

  • he looks like the man with the golden voice :L

  • Thank you! This was very informative!

  • "you dont want to be in an enviroment where theres air.."

*machine reading 3.6-3.7 back and forth* "its about 3.7 to 3.8" XD

  • This helped me so much. Thank you Rich. You're an expert for a reason.

  • Hmmm an environment where there's no air?

  • i have a question ive been hearing a strange knocking sound from my sub and i dont know what couls cause that?

  • @cougar1ful .....hmmm If the sound is from high volume it could be bottoming out. If not , pull 1 sub punch on the divider and box to see if the box is coming apart. Some times the box can flex and get somethings loose. Oh listen around the box for the cars panels, or even a speaker in the rear deck they may be giving a sound that you don't want. Listen to the highs without subs playing to see how the system works without them. You may have to much low notes going to the highs. its a start .

  • @JBTAmbientMusic As you can see he's in a wheelchair, he could have Parkinson's, explaining why he is shaking. Not very nice..

  • how do you wire up the mtx 9500 4ohm

  • well my sub ant blow mtx 9500

  • Lol. He said it's tight

  • or you could hook it up and hear it sounding like shit

  • shit man i think i just blew my rocksford fosgate. im fucking pisssed off. this is bull shit. i just got it last month and the bass isint even that heavy. its retarded.

  • @SirProStatus shit dude my p2 was blown by a 150watt amp

  • @tragikzmd yeah i have P2 12' and i cant exactly tell if its better then my old sub (polk audio momo series) but i fixed my sub, thank god. i wasnt ready to drop another 200 dolars for a new one

  • 1:10 thats what she said

  • I blew my kicker comp VT 12" in 6 hours then....

  • @PPQLY same man.... its seriously FML

  • hes a shaky bastard

  • @MagicPup69 well done thats because he has an illness..

  • @MagicPup69 prolly a disorder jerk

  • @MagicPup69 Hes sitting in a wheelchair, so dont be mean

  • @BeeJayFL you right the guy in the vid is doing a good job..

  • @BeeJayFL but at the gining hes in a normal chair with no wheel chair around

  • Dunno if anyone can help, i have a edge amp and once i go over a few bumps it mights a really high pitch sound through the speakers.. as soon as i out my finger on the aux leads on the input to the amp it stops? I would have thought it would be a look connection, but whats got me stumped is, when i out my foot on the break, indicators, lights, horn, hazards on, a pulse goes through the speakers? (it pulses to the sound of the indicators ticking? but like a bassy tap) My earth connection is fine?

  • @jimjamjimmy1992 When you pull the aux connection it stops? At that time does the hazards still do the sound..with the aux out. If it doesn't make the sound with it out more than likely its a bad connection in the aux input. Seen it because the cable pulls down on the input(also with bad roads). Over time this damages it. For the techy types its can lead to a cold solder joint.

  • @1REDDAWN13 yeah when i pull it out it stops immediately. Ok, so ill need to resolder it then? :s

  • @jimjamjimmy1992 .....I would check that, but be careful.

  • @1REDDAWN13 "be careful" - how so? What do i need to do to take precaution?

  • @jimjamjimmy1992 No, Meaning be careful not to do more damage...lol

  • hey my rampage sub its dust-cap keeps fulling off what do i do to fix it. so it doesn't keep fulling off

  • @TheBillabongboy15 Glue it arond the edge.....

  • What does it mean when your subwoofers are WAY quieter than normal at a certain volume than usual. tonight they were playing perfect then all of a sudden they were way quieter. i have L7s and they are dual 2 ohm voice coil.

  • This guy is shaking so bad.......Too much bass. Also is that a hearing aid?

  • @JBTAmbientMusic bluetooth

  • @JBTAmbientMusic no need to point out him shaking, I'm sure he already knows it douche. looks like a bluetooth device to me

  • @ads861 was just a joke, no disrespect intended, i think your right yeah, bluetooth.

  • @JBTAmbientMusic looks like a bluetooth

  • @JBTAmbientMusic That's a BlueTooth, sillyhead.

  • @JBTAmbientMusic you honestly can't tell its a blue tooth phone piece in his ear?

  • @JBTAmbientMusic its a bluetooth jackass!

  • @JBTAmbientMusic thats some blue tooth headset thing lol

  • @JBTAmbientMusic bluetooth not hearing aid :D

  • @JBTAmbientMusic bluetooth...... bass doesnt hurt hearing

  • @JBTAmbientMusic that a bluetooth

  • Hi,i have ground zero gztw 30t sub,m using it on jbl gto 1004 amp, whenver m playing the heavy bass songs...the sounds comes like phat phat phat..

i had checkd the crackin, scraching noise it wont came when i push the cone in middle but comes when pressed on another side

then i had checkd impendence of these subwoofer it showing "4.4" stable,no flacuation at all..

what that means is this subwoofer is blown??

  • Of course the impedance of the speaker is going to be different than the DC resistance.

  • Another eHow quantity-over-quality "instructional" video.

@the "expert", Rich Richards: Instructing viewers at 2:11 to "hook up your positive lead on the positive and negative lead on the negative" terminals of a subwoofer to measure its DC resistance suggests you think DC quantities are polarized. I wouldn't trust anyone near my car stereo that thinks this. Many potential customers would agree. The "expert" here might consider reshooting, then asking eHow to substitute a corrected video.

  • @antera77 make that 1:24

  • @antera77 I don't get it O.o

  • @antera77 What you going on about here? So you are calling out the "expert". You know more that the person in this vid? Is this due to the fact you know this man or you listed as an engineer, musician? Its great feel you know something b/c you went to school for it, it you did. How do we trust what you have too say...when you are 110 years old ...how are you typing?

  • @1REDDAWN13 "So you are calling out the "expert"."

Your putting "expert" in quotes is entirely appropriate.

From wikipedia: eHow has been criticized as "a 'content mill' because of the website's search engine driven content, low article quality and low writer salaries…."; their content " 'slapdash" and a "factory stamping out moneymaking content.' "

More damningly for the case of truth and accuracy: eHow spreads low quality content very efficiently: over 262k views as of 14Jun2011.

  • @antera77 So what did you have a problem with in his steps to check the sub? What does cooper care polarized dc?.....Its cooper. Most don't know about an O scope and the ways it can be used. So everybody uses a multimeter...oh most customers don't know what his said too start with...moreover what you are on about.

So, what type of engineering do have? Yes I know you have to take a little of everything, but what was your focus, in school......or are you the sound guy for yours and others bands?

  • Comment removed

  • @antera77 "... suggests you think DC quantities are polarized."

Correction: "…suggests you think resistance of the subwoofer is polarized."

  • Good tutorial - thanks for making it. Going to test my sub now!

  • Thumbnail for this video is goatse :X

  • Lol I live in taylorsville utah!

  • hey i have a 12" 1000 watt pioneer in a bassworks box, its not a big box, and theres no air vent, is this normal? or does it hurt the sub, plz help me out :)

  • But will it blend?

  • 3.8, LIEZ!

  • Rofl hes in a wheel chair.

  • LOL HE HAS A HEARING AID WAT A COINSIDENCE

  • @420leadville719 That's called a bluetooth headset you dumb ass, not a hearing aid.

  • So i have a 4ohm dvc sub that only reading 1.1ohm on all the connects is my subwoofer blown?

  • @mi2oahn Most likely, yes. If it is two 4 ohm coils, then the lowest reading you should get is 2 ohms, give or take a few percent.

  • SO LIKE MY SUBWOOFER DONT WORK AND HE SAID TO GO TO AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THERE IS NO AIR SO I JUST CALLED NASA TO RENT A SPACE SHIP THUBMS UP IF YOUR IN TO CHECK YOUR SUB!!!

  • I GOT HERE FROM WATCHING A VIDEO ABOUT BB GUNS ...

  • that dudes hands are shakey as fuck!!!

  • ''does it flop back and forth easily?'' hahaha

  • @Raphcoll thats what she said...

  • DOES ANY ONE KNOW IF SONICELACTRIC IS A REAL WEBSITE OR IS IT FAKE

  • @bigbaddemo Sonic electronix is a real website idk about sonicelactric tho

  • Hey, i just bought a sub and im doing exactly what u told me to do(push down on the sub, and sees if it doesent stick) and i did it, but at the very end where it cant be pushed no further, i can hear it scratching. 800W its registered at and i got it on a 600W kenwood amp. it feels nice and strong, pumps strong, but im wondering now if its blowen or not now..

  • Is he expecting a call?

  • A Volt Meter is going to test the DC resistance. Speakers specs are AC. If you cheek with an Impedance Meter you will get 4 Ohms at 1000 hrz

  • Speaking of innovative...catchy name

  • (+ to +) (- to - ) who does that shit anymore

  • @MegavaT100 people that need to wire in parallel. Thats how my subs are wired.

  • LOL HE'S GOT A HEARING AID

MUST BE CUZ OF OVER 20 YEARS OF CRANKING THE VOLUME

  • @KanyeTroll It's a bluetooth headset moron.

  • @KanyeTroll its a headset..

  • very informative

    thank you!

  • does he have parkinsons he shaking all over

  • hey man i have 2 12's legacy lw12590 2000 watts max and 1000rms and i wonder what would be a good amp to use them ..at how many watts....what brand...and how many amplifiers please...thanks...

  • shaky much?

  • He got parkinson?

  • extra step, if your sub isn't producing sound and is still wired in powered on .just gently press in on the cone. if it responds momentarily scratchy . Your voice coil has slipped off the former. these in most cases can be repaired. and this is a sign of over powering and over heating. or it's just blown.seen allot but rarely mentioned.

  • thank you Michael j fox

  • if so many people want to ridicule the video....why would you even take the time to watch it when you know what its about.....

  • he has a sclerosis

  • its reading 3.7 to 3.8 uuuhh *cough* (the 3.8 never showed up) hahaha

  • @MrEisinn actually it did besides wat reason does he have to lie

  • @MrEisinn go to 1:52 (roughly) and pause fullscreen, ill assure you it says 3.8 ;)

  • @MarcusW1234 Ya, I saw it :p

  • @MrEisinn Accually it did but it went really fast. Trust me I know about subs and I have a good vision about that stuff

  • @MrEisinn he looked from the side ;) still funny :D

  • @MrEisinn at 1:51 it reads 3.8 .... =/

  • he's shaking???

  • @sirciram1527loveit Yea it happens when you get old...

  • @larlar752000 is he a prime?

  • Shit mine just catched on fire!

  • he goes hard

  • not in environments where there's air? i guess im goin to the moon

  • @ddustbuster

not in enviroment with air that CAN make the cone move....replay it and listen to that xD. (Dont start flaming me xD)

  • @ddustbuster

If you listen carefully, he said "In an environment where there's air that can make the cone move."

  • @ddustbuster

"That can make the sub move"

You know, as in say a hurricane.

  • @ddustbuster

Where NO AIR CAN MOVE THE CONE

My speakers flex in and out a good amount when some one opens the front door to my house, that is what he means,

I hope to god you are being sarcastic and if not... wow.

  • @ddustbuster Where there is air that can move the sub.. lrn2listen

  • @ddustbuster ..that can make the cone move :)

  • @ddustbuster where theres air that can make the cone move retard..

  • he knows his stuff but he'd make a terrible surgeon. his hands shake like he's peakin

  • I am getting back into bass after nearly a decade of waiting to get it. Recently, I was convinced by a friend in Chattanooga to go to Jimmy Carter Blvd in Atlanta to a Sundown distributor, which was advertising on Craig's List. I bought 2 8" subs, had my good buddy and his buddy (both know a hell of a lot about car audio) install a system replete with peel and seal. The 1000 watt amp was turned allt he way down and the Pioneer Premier CD Player's EQ was set to 0 on the bass.I'm hearing rattle

  • nothing say quality like audiovox

  • @gtrfurby JL Audio.

  • @jjchargerboy16 yeah they suck too

  • @gtrfurby What!! JL Audio is the best when it comes to Sound quality. I never heard of Audiovox.

  • I haven't heard a jl I liked yet .... I think $ 4 $ they are way overpriced, and there are way better speakers out there that cost less.

and as far as audivox goes consider yourself lucky.

  • @gtrfurby I know, I like Focals (If you ever heard of them) they are great.

  • boy that kid sure loves displaying his unpacking skills.

  • just a few hours ago i purposefully blew my old soundstorm speakers :) they started smoking and the crap material they are made of actually started boiling. haha.

  • any ohm but not above 4ohm! or your amp will short because of lack of resistance. 4ohm will make your woofer sound the full sound and 2ohm won't be that loud. but if you want your thing to last longer then i prefer you'd install an 2ohm.

  • hey guys. im new to caur audio systems. and just got my subwoofer yesterday. it plays in 4 ohm as well as in this vid my questions is.

    1. the terminals on each side of the sub is for what amplifier and ?

    2. the sub i got can take 600 wrms does it matter if the amp can take 500 wrms in 2 ohm or in 4 ohm ?

  • 3.8 ohms is basically in the 4 ohm range but if its was an 8 ohm that means half the coils resistance has gottten burnt!

  • "The meter is reading somewhere between 3.7 and 3.8." Never does it read 3.8. He says 3.8 because he doesn't want to say 3.6 because that seems low, Lol.

  • Haha that cadillacon guy replied to himself accidentally and called himself mr anal

  • @BradK24 ha ha heeeee!

  • @cadillacon24z Lolz

  • 1:24

  • can you fix a sub that wont push down?

  • You can also use a AA battery too. Really just to see if the sub will move up or down....

  • my sub is a 15", i cant "push down the cone"

  • what happen if u under power your sub?

  • @MarcoToDaPolo it will sit there an cook the fuck out of it, and you will most likely see smoke come out your box, or your car will start to smell like shitt

  • @MarcoToDaPolo Nothing really. You won't get the full potential out of the sub. Might have distortion at high volumes due to less power. But I stand corrected.....

  • what happen if u under power your sub?

  • whoever blew a kicker fucking retarded

  • @juggalo4life12401 whoever likes ICP is also fucking retarded. believe it or not its pretty easy to blow any sub broski

  • @caddyman91 ya and haters are fuckin fags an if you blow a kicker your retarted and dont no how to eather hook up a kicker your kicker is a gay cheap one of you dont treat them right and tern it all the way up witha shity amp you fuckin bitch so stop talkin shit an go suck yo mothers dick

  • @juggalo4life12401 all im gonna say +1 dumbass

  • @juggalo4life12401 a kicker is just a subwoofer, so it really doesnt matter what brand of sub you have, it can blow if like you said, it is wired wrong, it is played too loud for too long, and if the amp is too weak or too strong. so by you just referring kickers im assuming thats what you have, as do I, and you also have no idea what you are talking about. also, nice comeback about my mother having a dick moron. thats really fucking original. you juggalo fags crack me up

  • LOL

  • its 3.6 and 3.7 not fucking 3.8 it never had 3.8

  • @DeejayDimez he was looking at it from the side. so the 6 looked like 8

  • @ampecsu Oh ok thankx

  • So i have a fusion sub and i plug it in to my amp and no sound what so ever? sub must be gone but is there anything i can do to fix it?

  • @jimjamjimmy1992 sounds like the sub's coil is fried Internally. It may not look like its blown but it probably is. That happened to my friends woofer, I tried taking it out of the cabinet and hooking it up directly to my stereo and still, no sound.

  • just make sure your not in a place where there is air... ok... so do I go to space for that?? hahahah

  • dddd
